What do you think of these dress options?

I have an evening event to attend where the dress code is 'smart'.

What do you think off these options?

Option 1 or 2 (2 I already own so is the easier option just worried it's about much skin)

Sorry they all look like dresses of Apprentice candidates. Very banking office which could be right for the event. If a dinner event I always try ( and probably fail tbh) to make sure the bit that is above the waist so observable when sitting down is interesting. So statement jewellery or interesting blouse. Often with simple pencil skirt or trousers with brightly coloured heels.
I suppose it also depends on what you want to say about yourself...are you reliable, cool, creative, up to date...do you want to be noticed or blend in!

RogueV · 01/11/2021 20:57

Karen Millen in black is much nicer

raymondanddebra · 01/11/2021 20:58

Neither of them look that smart but 1 would win the nude colour pic

The red one from Hobbs would be perfect

JMAngel1 · 01/11/2021 20:58

Well I think dress 1 and 2 sound perfect for dinner.
Please don't wear the red one - you're in your 30s, not 60s. Plus it smacks of Kate Middeleton Grin

Flowers500 · 01/11/2021 20:58

You say you have loads of dresses already, why not post some of them on here?

loobylou10 · 01/11/2021 20:58

I think the red dress is perfect.

Shallwegoforawalk · 01/11/2021 21:00

The third red dress is the best of the 3 for a city networking event.

I really like the beige one! Its also fab in the bright blue colour

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:04

@Flowers500 it's a fairly serious sector, I kinda want to be taken seriously

The hobbs one is lovely. The first two - one was ok but in a bad colour and the other didn't flatter the model.

Ah cool! Then smart (officey) dress and jacket, black tights and heels/smart blocked shoes, nice earrings and a blow dry. Personally I'd only wear the dress without a jacket over it if it had sleeves that covered part of the arms (like close to the elbows). No wraps or cardigans!

Do you have any nice jackets? If so a more boring dress under is fine?

Obecalp · 01/11/2021 21:10

The black one could definitely work for evening. It's like a LBD. The correct jewellery and a blazer, it would look great.

Obecalp · 01/11/2021 21:10

A blazer, or even tights as well, would solve the "too much flesh" of the black one too, so I vote black all the way

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 01/11/2021 21:11

Afraid you’re going to have to splash out on the Reiss tuxedo dress OP!

The Karen Millen is much better in black but it’s a bit of a party dress / nice bar on a double date… not a dress for a work event at which you want to to be taken seriously.

The short black is nice but also not right for the occasion.

Burn the red dress - unless is an audition for The Apprentice.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 01/11/2021 21:13

Actually agree - your LBD with sky high heels and an oversized black tux would look good (needs to be same length or longer than the dress though).

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:14

@Obecalp I did consider putting a blazer on with it. But I also don't want to be confined to a blazer all evening

The beige 1st one is lovely! (I’m mid 30,s!) I’d wear that one no problem it’s very classy and elegant but attractive too. The average age on here is a good bit higher than ours I think so bear that in mind.

MeatyRvita · 01/11/2021 21:15

Please don’t wear a wrap as suggested!
I personally really like option 1 for a networking evening event - it’s interesting, not as plain and daytime/office attire as the other two but still smart and appropriate.

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:15

@SeenYourArse yes I see what you mean. Please bear in mind I'm 30s everyone! With that said, most of the attendees are older

  • Also just to add I’m late twenties and I would wear dress number 1 to a networking event with the ‘smart’ dress code - you don’t want to dress like your in your 50’s!
DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2021 21:16

As you want to be taken seriously, I vote for the red one.

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:17

@MiloAndEddie thank you, my mom always says I dress too old fashioned so I think you're right!

OP posts:
stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:17

@DramaAlpaca even number 1 with the high neck you think looks too much?

This is lovely. Sophisticated enough that you’ll be taken seriously, but definitely an evening dress.
