What do you think of these dress options?

I have an evening event to attend where the dress code is 'smart'.

What do you think off these options?

Option 1 or 2 (2 I already own so is the easier option just worried it's about much skin)

I think the first one is lovely, it's not too daytime, I don't know anyone who wears dresses like this in the daytime anymore...if you are thirties, with a good figure, it would look amazing, I like it because it's high necked but not frumpy.

Red dress is a bad length, but red is often memorable.

I wouldn't wear the black dress because there are 100's of nicer black dresses out there.

LedTasso · 01/11/2021 21:23

I'm also 30s. I like the Karen Millen one. The red one is so boring.. but I guess practical for work. My main aim at the moment is to avoid the frump, I always think hard to avoid this in Hobbs dresses sorry Blush.

I like the Reiss tuxedo one too but agrer very expensive! I really struggle with occasion wear now. Feel like I can put together a decent casual outfit but occasion wear is hard. Watching with interest!

Cameleongirl · 01/11/2021 21:24

@SeenYourArse

The beige 1st one is lovely! (I’m mid 30,s!) I’d wear that one no problem it’s very classy and elegant but attractive too. The average age on here is a good bit higher than ours I think so bear that in mind.
I'm mid-40's, Seen, and I like number 1 too.

I'm going off the number 3 red dress by the minute, it really is frumpy, even middle-aged me wouldn't wear it.

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:27

I also own this reiss dress but again a bit short and summery perhaps?

Also, time of the month so I'd be a bit on edge 😬,

Neither of them would suit for an evening where the dress code is smart.

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:28

@Boood no way, I don't like that kind of style at all! It's far too boring for me Blush

Also, I am slim build fairly tall to give an idea if body shape.

If you're younger than everyone else and keen to be taken seriously, I'd err on the side of being too corporate

PoddingtonPea21 · 01/11/2021 21:30

I'd do dress 2 with a tailored jacket and heels.

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:32

@PoddingtonPea21 and keep the jacket on for the evening?

I think the red one is lovely for dinner. With a nice pair of statement earrings and heels.

Oneforthemoneytwo · 01/11/2021 21:38

The red one is too dull. The beige is nice. Personally I would probably go for the trouser suggestion. Some fabulous slim 7/8 trousers, a gorgeous blouse - think puff sleeved / a frill etc and fabulous heels with a small handbag e.g padded with chain.

Not sure if this would be too your taste good bit cheaper than the Reiss ones!

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:42

@Oneforthemoneytwo I don't do puff and frills really

[quote stereeotype]The beige comes in variety of colours too...

I'm 33, I live in London, and I think if it's a fashionable restaurant then this is the one. Can't go wrong with black imo!

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:45

@Blueskiesoutthere yes it's fashionable and I'm similar age - the back has no more in my size 😑

@JMAngel1

Well I think dress 1 and 2 sound perfect for dinner. Please don't wear the red one - you're in your 30s, not 60s. Plus it smacks of Kate Middeleton Grin
This!

Bugger! Well I like the beige and khaki too!

This is lovely! Perfect for the occasion

sunshineandshowers40 · 01/11/2021 21:49

The first one but in red, black or green. I don't think you need a blazer but one could work for the start of the evening. You need to be comfortable Smile

BananaBMumma · 01/11/2021 21:49

The first beige one is absolutely fine for what you are planning, go for a simple up do, sleek pony tail. I’m early 30s both beige and black are age appropriate.

This? It’s classic but a bit different with the sleeves

stereeotype · 01/11/2021 21:51

@Blueskiesoutthere the black just came in a size 8! Might fit but I might need a 10.

To be honest I think I'm going for beige, black is just tooo boring I think
