Hi. I'm 43, bit overweight and short and I hate my clothes!
Never know what looks nice on me? Please help! I wear a lot of black, navy, grey or I have very patterned dresses from White Stuff.
I just don't know where to look or what would flatter me?

What do you actually like wearing? I'm 50 next month and wouldn't wear most of the stuff linked here. I shop almost exclusively at Hush, Sweaty Betty, Adidas, Scamp&Dude and LuluLemon and wear slim cut joggers or yoga type pants (never loose style crotch ones!) with either plain sweatshirts or t shirts in various colours. I team with Vejas or Gazelles or whatever trainers take my fancy - sometimes my grensen boots and jacket wise I wear camo ones from Bird + Wolf, a Levi's denim one, a jagaer leather one or a padded Boden one

I wouldn't wear a cardi or a shirt or shoes or a dress. I like a casual but luxe ish look. A bit scruffy but clean and 'new' looking.

So this is about you and what you're drawn towards not what other folk wear.

Well I like patterned dresses and flat shoes! Confused

I have just bought that hush leopard print sweat shirt dress. Hoping it arrives in time for my weekend away with old friends. Now I need new leggings to go with!!

I think you could make it work with your knee hugh boots which are nice.

We can't always wear latest fashion but leopard print has been doing the rounds for about a decade and doesn't really go out of style.

I’m am wondering a little bit why you started this thread. You said yourself what you wear makes you feel frumpy, but then when posters have said the combination of the length of dress in your picture and ballet pumps does look somewhat frumpy, you’ve argued that you like it. That’s absolutely fine, carry on wearing it, but it may well look frumpy. You can’t have it both ways.

Lots of posters have taken time out to offer you advice and try and help you and you seem a little unwilling to change your current styles I’m confused as to what you’re trying to achieve.

cheeseisthebest · 31/10/2021 23:01

Sorry canary I am slightly joking. I've taken on board loads of advice from this thread and found it really helpful. It was just some people say wear what you like but wearing what I like isn't very flattering. I can see that!
I genuinely have found all the advice on her really helpful and appreciate it.

SingingCanary · 31/10/2021 23:15

Sorry @cheeseisthebest. I think to some extent, very few people wear exactly what they want or I’d be wandering around Sainsbury’s in my pjs 😂

For what it’s worth, put a pair of trainers on with the dress and it would look immeasurably better without feeling too different for you.

I definitely feel a bit out of my comfort zone when I wear something different for the first time, but the more you do it, the more normal it becomes.

Good luck.

cheeseisthebest · 31/10/2021 23:46

Thank you!

So thoughts on this?
Never worn a jumpsuit!

Jumpsuit is great. They are so versatile amd I find them really flattering. Can be dressed up or down, all year round. Sandals in the summer, trainers for daytime, heels or wedges for evening. You could do so different many looks with it.

BlueFlavour · 01/11/2021 06:26

Lovely jumpsuit. Where’s it from please?

doorornottodoor · 01/11/2021 06:28

Oh I really like that outfit OP. Gorgeous coat!

I’m 48 and like more masculine styles. Vintage too. I don’t think I’m frumpy but I don’t care really!

I have these jeans and I love them. They’re cool and flattering. I think the buttons make them a bit more interesting. www.allsaints.com/women/jeans/allsaints-jules-jean-we984u/

On Bretons I think they can look a bit frumpy so I chose a sharper one from Cos rather than Joules. It’s just little details like that.

Actually I got the black and white rather than the navy.

That would be cool with your teddy coat. Some chunky Chelsea boots.

Ps I really like your tweed coat!

doorornottodoor · 01/11/2021 06:29

That jumpsuit is really nice. You could wear it in the evening or daytime! Good find.

doorornottodoor · 01/11/2021 06:31

Another tip is wear more pointy shoes rather than round toed. Within reason! Even my flip flops flatter my legs more than straight across sandals. It just elongates the leg.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 01/11/2021 06:51

Love that jumpsuit, where is it from?
