Well, the swingy denim dress arrived and I almost kept it, but then I tried on my navy cord Kin dress which I hadn't worn yet this year and decided I actually prefer that, so it's going back.

The cord trousers are such a lovely colour! But the waist is ridiculously small - even the 8 was tight (the 6 wouldn't even meet in the middle). So they're going back too. They're a perfect length for me, so if anyone is taller than 5'4 they might be too short

faustina · 01/11/2021 15:55

... have just bought some very nice bnwt chartreuse cord trousers on ebay to make up for the disappointment. I actually admired them on the sales person at Toast Cambridge so hopefully they'll fit, and if not I'll put them back on Ebay!

ToastCosILoveIt · 01/11/2021 22:53

I am really enjoying the new thread and all of the chatter.

I had a delivery on Friday of three things - the black denim jumpsuit in a 12: snug fit, certainly couldn't be any smaller. On Friday I was ready to send it back but i have just tried it on again and quite like it. It is quite flattering and gives a good shape ie a waist but it is more dungarees than jumpsuit and I am wondering if I am too old for it.

The alix chanterelle trousers are great and a keeper: Jenny Garcia sold them to me in the video.

I also like the scallop ruffle neck shirt: the ruffle is very oversized but very much a nod to the current trend.

Looks like I won't be sending anything back....

Laska2Meryls · 02/11/2021 07:21

ScottishMouse I think that its the mul mul shirt from last spring.. It was in the lookbook with the demin pinafore ( I remember because I had thought of buying them together, but didnt in the end) .. for some reason I cannot access google images atm on my phone but im pretty sure if you can you'll find it .

whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie · 02/11/2021 08:40

@ilovecherries

whiskey, that’s very annoying. While Toast sizing can be erratic, I tend to find that their size control across the same item to be good. What I have found on two occasions though is that the size label on the swing card is different from the sewn in label. I asked about it in JL once and they said it was an issue they got with brands that used pinned on labels rather than fixed ones. Apparently people take them off and either deliberately or accidentally reattach them to the wrong garment. Don’t know if that’s true!
Thanks for sympathizing Cherries. Wish I'd just bought the trousers when I tried them on...I thought it would be easier to return them if I bought from J Lewis but I won't rely on that again.

I think I might try the Ashley jeans, or the Blackhorse Lane Long Crop...has anyone tried either of those on? I need trousers that are flat fronted – can't do elasticated waists as I am very short waisted (and short) and they make me look like overgrown toddler.

HappyDays101010 · 02/11/2021 09:30

I haven’t bothered trying on the Blackhorse Lane jeans in toast, because I went to the Blackhorse Lane store in Coaldrops Yard and I have never come across a bunch of trousers that suited me less! Talk about having high hopes dashed. And they ran small.

Ive got the Ashley jeans in black.
Im tall so they are 3/4 length on me but thats fine.
Im a RL 12 and the 10 fit me really well.

ScottishMouse · 02/11/2021 11:51

Thanks @Laska2Meryls. A google image search hasn’t turned it up, but I do think I remember it from earlier in the year. Did you try it on or see it in the flesh? I’m dithering as I’m not sure about the colour. Also looks like it could be a bit tent-like.
I have been wearing my alpaca cable sleeve cardigan nearly every day since it arrived, but I would like some interesting shirts or tops to wear under it, I have just been wearing it with a striped tshirt or a thin sweater. What would anyone style it with from the current collection oh wise ones (tops/shirts, not dresses, it looks fab with a dress but i hardly wear dresses in winter)?

Countmeout · 02/11/2021 12:09

Just placemarking still very unconnected 🙄

[quote ScottishMouse]Does anyone know if this is old stock that Toast no longer have or new stock that I just can’t find on their website. Has anyone tried it or seen it in the flesh?

I think it is!

vest update! I'm trying out my landsend vest today and it's really lovely! Doesn't cling or feel weird, or make what I'm wearing on top look odd either!

I read that as you wore your husbands vest 😳😂 Are you sure you dont need the denim swingy dress? Its such a lovely warm weight. Im pondering the pintuck dress -I dont need it at all.

If its the same cardigan, its styled with the check blouse. Depends on whether you like a tie neck or not. Im in the not camp.
ilovecherries · 02/11/2021 19:03

Does anyone know anything about dressmaking? I can do hems obviously, and add some darts to a shirt to make it fit better but I have never attempted trousers. I have some old Alix and Gabis that are really too big for me now. Are they fixable do you think? I wouldn’t do them myself but wondering if a dressmaker is going to say they will need to be unpicked, re-cut and re-made (at huge cost!). My mum says this is what is needed (she’s not able to tackle it though, her hands are too bad now), but she is really perfectionist and does proper tailoring so she’s possibly wrong about what’s possible. I really want to do more repair and reuse but I’m a bit wussy about it all.

Laska2Meryls · 02/11/2021 19:11

Does anyone have the Gabi cords in Concrete?
are they a pale grey or more Greige ? - Beige ?

I have been wearing my Sand Linen and cotton Alix today with the Elena denim shirt , but although they look pretty ok with boots , I am not going to be able to wear them all winter.. but I like the look... Pale trousers in winter though? What do you think ?.

Sorry *cherries I am no sewing expert .. But I'm sure that they could be altered, through the center seam .... have you anyone local you could take them to who could give you a quote?

But I am sure you'd do well with them on ebay if you were to sell

ilovecherries · 02/11/2021 19:21

I love pale trousers in winter, laska, especially with black, navy or red. I do wear my Alix all year round, I just wear fairisle or ribbed socks.

I have the concrete gabis, they are actually greenish rather than grey. I’ll see if I can find a photo…

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 02/11/2021 19:25

Greenish wasn't what I expected! ..
I am also wondering if they will be in the sale... ..

What about the jute Gabis? Anyone have those?

ilovecherries · 02/11/2021 19:30

Concrete gabis

They look good cherries... I may have a speculative order....

ilovecherries · 02/11/2021 19:33

It’s a green tinge. Not as strong as eau dI nil. But def not a true grey. Ahem, yes. I have the jute as well. What can I say. They are the best trousers ever

Laska2Meryls · 02/11/2021 19:40

Grin Cherries....
Well I have been swapping out my wardrobe today.. its been so warm here in the far south some days still that I have still been wearing a lot of summer stuff.. but Winter Draws On!

Its nice to have a whole lot of 'new' - not seen since last winter stuff to wear , but I have a few 'holes' in my wardrobe... which is surprising considering just how much I have

However , I have not really got into a stride of non-office winter clothing because I left work just before covid hit , and well, most of last winter was all enforced loungewear......

ilovecherries · 02/11/2021 19:44

I did buy new winter running tights today (gloomy expression as I consider putting the damn things to their appropriate use)

OP posts:
faustina · 02/11/2021 19:55

@Laska2Meryls - I have the jute gabis and I really love them - they're almost the same colour as the Alix linen cotton trousers, but thicker. I saw the concrete cord gabis in the shop the other day and I thought they looked really unusual and lovely

@ilovecherries - sorry I am totally inept at sewing!
