Welcome to all the new Toasties!

I tried on this gorgeous coat recently:

www.toa.st/collections/womens-coats-jackets/products/miller-houndstooth-wool-coat-pomegranate-tuscan-olive

The fabric and colours are lovely. With all the best will in the world, even the size 6 swamped me. Size down several sizes and only bother if you are tall. I’m well disappointed as this was going to be my winter coat this year Sad

TempleofZoom · 30/10/2021 15:13

Well I never!
The size 6 swingy denim dress fits and Im a size 12.
I held it up to the size 10 workwear dress and the shoulder width is identical.
Thanks so much -I cant remember who suggested going down 3 sizes but you were right!
It fits nicely and neatly but not tight at the top and is gently A line over my pear shaped lower half.
So that and the slate skirt are both keepers Smile

I'd love to see a pic @TempleofZoom - mine is arriving on Monday, along with the cord trousers in earth - exciting!

I'd love some advice about what people wear under their dresses as it gets a bit colder. I usually wear a cotton t-shirt under the workwear dress, but I bought two silk thermal vests the other day from Lands End who were having a sale and am wondering if they're really going to make that much difference?

I have tried the Uniqlo heat tech tops and found them really uncomfortable - don't like clingy things - also tried the Toast tencel long sleeve top with a similar result

It's not really cold enough to tell yet, and even though half price, they were still quite expensive

Im a bit nervous of posting pics @faustina

Its a beautiful dress and the neckline is very nice when you get the right size.

I know what you mean about the Uniqlo-very clingy and a bit uncomfortable but useful if you dont want bulk.
I got some lovely thermals in Tesco recently.
Long and short sleeve -I got cream and black.
They have a lovely deep lace V neck.
For extremely cold weather I have base layers , top and leggings.
I dont bother with the thermal vests as I wear a cotton cami, then a thermal top, then a normal top, jumper or cardigan if its really cold.
All tucked into big knickers and thick tights so no gaps Grin

I am colder than the average person though!

faustina · 30/10/2021 16:01

@TempleofZoom - thank you! Perhaps I'll try some of the Tesco ones too. Were they any in particular, or do they only do one kind?

They were F&F so own brand.

I dont really care about what they look like if Im trying to stay warm but these were surprisingly nice.

TempleofZoom · 30/10/2021 16:06

Forgot to add
The other thing I wear under pinafores are the Sainsburys or JL polo neck thermal tops.
They dont look like thermals -stripes, black, navy etc

I have several of these tops ( collected over the years working in freezing office) they are expensive but really good.. also wash and wear brilliantly.. I think mone must be at least 5 years old ( as I finished work 2 years ago) and still as good as new despite the fact that I used to wear one every day in our freezing office under my workwear.

Laska2Meryls · 30/10/2021 16:19

Id wear one under another top... ( And jumpers and then often a wrap over!)

faustina · 30/10/2021 16:39

Thanks Temple - I will try them too. I think it's more about how they feel and if they work! I can do a very seasonal shop next time I go, as they have the best soluble vitamin c there!

Thanks Laska - the ones I bought from lands end are similar but half price !

@Craftycorvid

Morning all! I joined this lovely thread ages ago but then fell by the wayside. Like *@BigDayToday*, many of my Toast treasures come from eBay so I’m not as up on the latest collections as some of you; I do love hearing about them, though, and seeing the pictures. It’s a cheering interlude in a troubling world.
I remember your username. Welcome backSmile
Craftycorvid · 30/10/2021 18:18

Thanks for the welcome back!

Someone asked about Cabbages and Roses. I’ve one or two bits from this brand and it’s good quality, generally very generously sized.

Stoic123 · 30/10/2021 18:19

@Laska2Meryls - the silk vests look very useful.

What is the sizing like?

It was me! Thank you. I may need to give myself a breather as I have purchased 2 Toast dresses and a skirt since yesterday but good to know and I think one of the fairisle vests will be my next purchase.
Laska2Meryls · 31/10/2021 08:07

Hi stoic123, I have M in those silk jersey tops and thats about a 12 -14.. I have put on a bit of weight do definitely on the too end of that now but they are still fine..

Faustina yes! They have gone up quite a bit in price since I bought mine..

Laska2Meryls · 31/10/2021 08:43

But Stoic take Faustina's advice .. Lands end have 40% off theirs with code atm

Stoic123 · 31/10/2021 09:09

@faustina & @Laska2Meryls- Thank you.

One more question (sorry). I'm going to buy a Lands End one to try out. I'm a size 12-14 - would you recommend a 10-12 or 14-16? Biggish boobs but narrow shoulders.

faustina · 31/10/2021 10:12

@Stoic123 - I bought a small as I didn't want it to be too clingy, and this size seems to fit me nicely. It's definitely not too big. In toast I am a 6/8 on top

faustina · 31/10/2021 10:17

John Lewis also do slightly ribbed silk vests for £35 - the lands end ones aren't ribbed - but they've sold out of most of them. Have a look there too @Stoic123

JL thermal silk

Stoic123 · 31/10/2021 11:16

@faustina- I think will go for a lands end medium as prefer not clingy/unribbed. Thanks for your help!

Laska2Meryls · 31/10/2021 12:19

Ive just bought 2of those silk jersey vests from Lands End. A good price. Thanks Faustina

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 31/10/2021 12:40

Bit disappointed with some of the reviews for Lands End long sleeve silk and also current reviews for patra, has anybody tried Sulis ?

applecatchers36 · 31/10/2021 12:41

Hi Toasties with the base layer chat just bought a bamboo top after someone on here recommended it from bamboo clothing and it's really comfy would recommend think was approx £30. Have some uniglo heat Tec still going strong for colder days.

Am wearing all Toast today green marl cardigan and Annie jeans (with bamboo base layer underneath)

faustina · 31/10/2021 13:27

Your cardigan couldn't match your name better @applecatchers36 Smile

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - I haven't heard of them before, thanks teapot - another bow to our base layer arrow!

I can't answer for the quality of the Lands end ones, have only tried on, but the reviews for the vest which I bought seem better, and if they're rubbish, I will send them back. I think they have quite a good returns policy, though haven't bought anything from them for years

@faustina Applecatchers are nice big pants where Im from Grin

I have a couple of silk vests from JL which have washed beautifully but they arent really warm enough for me heading into Winter.
