@TempleofZoom - oh no! I had never heard that expression! Not what I meant @applecatchers36 Smile

I was going to buy the JL ones originally, but they were sold out in my size so that's useful, thanks Temple

applecatchers36 · 31/10/2021 15:22

Same meaning where I'm from as yours Templeof zoom that's why I chose it 😂

Has anyone used the Toast Circle programme? I'm embracing Toast right now as a lot of the dresses & tops work as maternity wear but am a bit hesitant to invest too much as obviously my size will change a lot over the year ahead.

Big knickers are known as ‘apple stealers’ where I’m from (Gloucestershire). Grin

Of those of you who have the Toast alpaca jumper, Can you advise on size? I am a 12-14. Would a medium be best? Thanks!

whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie · 31/10/2021 22:50

Hi oh Toast experts of mumsnet. I just wondered if anyone could shed light on why a pair of trousers bought from John Lewis would fit differently to those tried on in store? I went to the Edinburgh Toast with my daughter a couple of weeks ago and tried the Annie trousers in a chambray denim in an 8. They were a really good fit and length on me (5ft 2in), quite long in the crotch, fabric not that heavy and in terms of length just breaking on my trainers. When I got home, I decided to buy the same pair of trousers from J Lewis for ease of returns, but weirdly the fit of the JL ones is quite different - I can hardly do up the size 8 and when I do they are skin tight (I haven't put on any weight in the last 3 weeks), the fabric seems stiffer and they are shorter - they show my socks and are properly cropped. Is the J Lewis stock and the stock in Toast shops usually quite different? Did I unwittingly try old stock in the store? Or maybe the jeans I tried were wrongly labelled and were actually a size 10? Whatever it is, it's very annoying and I have buyers regret that I didn't buy the trousers at the time, especially as they have now vanished from the website.

AdoraBell · 31/10/2021 22:57

Place marking. No money to buy anything right now but I need ideas.

ilovecherries · 31/10/2021 23:14

whiskey, that’s very annoying. While Toast sizing can be erratic, I tend to find that their size control across the same item to be good. What I have found on two occasions though is that the size label on the swing card is different from the sewn in label. I asked about it in JL once and they said it was an issue they got with brands that used pinned on labels rather than fixed ones. Apparently people take them off and either deliberately or accidentally reattach them to the wrong garment. Don’t know if that’s true!

@neveradullmoment I've got the alpaca. I'm a 10 so got the small. It's a good fit but quite roomy, which I'm happy with. The medium would probably be great for you but you could expect a loosish fit; if you want more form-fitting maybe try the small too? It's a lovely jumper, I can wear it directly against my skin, no layering, in complete comfort.

HappyDays101010 · 01/11/2021 01:10

Hi, another long time lurker here!

I have just bought the black denim flat fronted trousers and they are so flattering and perfect that I am considering buying another pair. It’s such a shame they don’t do them in any other colours - is it daft to buy a second pair?

And yes, I do know that you all can’t really answer that for me - I guess I’m just looking for validation Grin

AmethystMoonShine · 01/11/2021 06:04

Just ordered one of the Landsend silk long sleeves tops with 40 percent off. Thought I’d try one to see how it is quality wise first.
My other base layers are mostly M&S which are good but not silk. I thought I’d see if I prefer those?

faustina · 01/11/2021 06:28

@HappyDays101010 - I've done that several times in my life with something I know I'll wear a lot - usually jeans, because it's really quite hard to get The Perfect Pair, and such an annoying procedure to get there!

JustforToast · 01/11/2021 06:29

Hi Happy Days, please tell me more about the black denim flat fronted trousers. They are in my basket but I am not sure about size. I tend to be Toast 8 in dresses and tops but find the waistband on their trousers very tight- so go for a 10 usually. But they can be too big around the hips and bottom. Any advice?

As for buying 2 pairs, go for it! I sometimes do that on the rare occasion I find something perfect to wear. And then have a moment of pure joy when the first one wears out and I have the second waiting in reserve!

ElizabethBennetismybestfriend · 01/11/2021 07:43

I had the same problem with JL. I take an 8 in Gabis. Tried on an 8 in the cord in JL and they were too small whereas the 8 in the twill are a perfect fit.

applecatchers36 · 01/11/2021 10:24

Yes trousers are tricky with Toast am an 8 with Gabi's and any elasticated waist. The Annie jeans are too tight in 8 as they come but if you move the top button (so not such a narrow waist then perfect). But the highwaisted cords I needed a 10 because of that damn narrow waist to be comfy.

HappyDays101010 · 01/11/2021 10:29

@JustforToast I had to size down. I am normally a 12 and I find the 10 fits perfectly. This weekend I tried practically ever pair of trousers from the current collection, and for most the 10 was too small and the 12 was marginally too loose. However the size 10 flat fronted trousers fit perfectly. I have just checked the label as was thinking maybe tags might have been swapped over as someone upthread suggested - but no, they are indeed a 10. Hope that helps.

HappyDays101010 · 01/11/2021 10:37

I am really tempted by the Myssy Hand Knitted Organic Wool Hat - but I am of an age that Benny from Crossroads haunts me with any kind of knitted hat.
Plus I went to a great deal of trouble to buy the Beton Cire rain hat in large (that Toast only do in a small) from France. Since it cost the best part of £100, I would need to put it on ebay as cant justify so much on a hat again. Have ended up not wearing it as it catches in the wind on my bike.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 01/11/2021 11:05

That’s a shame about the Beton Cire @HappyDays101010 , I sent the small back as well, it almost fitted but I knew it would annoy me if it wasn’t exactly right.
I never did send off to France for the large, was there much difference in the sizing? I was concerned it would be too large.

HappyDays101010 · 01/11/2021 11:13

@Theteapotsbrokenspout I was worried about that too - especially since they're unisex - and I was thinking 'I do not have a head the size of a large man's head!' But actually there's only 3cm difference in circumference between small and large, so the size is perfect for me.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 01/11/2021 11:57

That's useful to know @HappyDays101010 , thank you.

ScottishMouse · 01/11/2021 12:36

I also ordered the Beton Cire hat from France @HappyDays101010, but ended up selling it on eBay as I could not get on with it. There was something about the low back that meant it kept getting caught in my collar and getting pulled off. Very annoying as it really it lovely in theory.
I tried one of the Myssy hats last winter but found it quite small fitting, and I don’t love a too tight woolly hat.

HappyDays101010 · 01/11/2021 12:48

I know what you mean @ScottishMouse, though mine tends to fall off backwards as I'm cycling and garrotte me. Shame as it does look good, and I'm convinced I'm convinced I'm giving off Emily Bronte vibes! Grin

I had a look at completed items on ebay to see what it might fetch, but there wasn't any on there, just one unsold at £80. Would you mind telling me how much it went for?

ScottishMouse · 01/11/2021 13:18

@HappyDays101010, I think I got £70 for it. I guess because it was a size and colour not available from Toast (mine was navy). As yours is also a size not available from Toast, I think people will be interested in it.

JustforToast · 01/11/2021 13:27

@HappyDays101010
Thanks v much

HappyDays101010 · 01/11/2021 14:09

Right - about £70 is fine - was just thinking if it would go for £20 or so I don't think I would be bothered.

I have just popped into town and tried the Myssy hats again - am v v tempted - they look good, though not quite Emily Bronte! I have the taupe/grey/black alpaca scarf from last year they would go very well. They definitely have slight variations in size - I think because they are hand knitted - one in particular someone had cast on/off tight enough to make it too small - so thanks for warning me @ScottishMouse.
