@SlatternIsMyMiddleName @MidnightMeltdown I have thought the same but I really liked the Kerastase one and will see how I go with the Revlon one... I like trying new things and have the headspace at the mo to note down my thoughts on each one.

I love these threads, they really inspire me to use things up! One thing I find really interesting is how few items get good feedback or are HG...amazing that so many products used are just meh...would be great to hear what everyones HG products are?

PomRuns · 21/09/2021 20:47

Couple of empties - both a bit meh
Ren calm eye cream - was in a GWP
Dove body scrub, a bit ‘flavour’ apparently- weird smell.
Also trying to use up a Margaret Dabbs foot balm - not keen like fragranced Vaseline.

PomRuns · 21/09/2021 20:48

Nut not bit!

Experiment627 · 21/09/2021 21:09

@RoseHarper just some HGs I remember:

  • Murad AHA/BHA exfoliating cleanser
  • Eucerin active lip balm
  • CeraVe repatative foot cream (great as a foot cream and a hand cream)
  • Nivea in-shower moisturiser
  • The Inket List Retinol serum

I think I'm learning that there's not a direct relationship between cost and effectiveness. The most costly aspect is the trial and error, and not quite understanding what lotion or potion is having what effect, and whether or not one potentiates or reduces the effectiveness of others. It's a flipping minefield.

WellTidy · 21/09/2021 22:07

Some of my HGs -

Benefit pore-fessional face primer
Benefit they’re real mascara (doesn’t smudge)
Urban decay eyeshadow primer
Estée Lauder day wear for dry skin (moisturiser)

Soap and Glory the scrub of your life body scrub
Rituals Sakura whipped body soufflé (body cream)
Occitane Shea hand cream
Aquaphor for lips

Oh and Garnier sensitive micellar water (with the pink cap)

MidnightMeltdown · 21/09/2021 22:46

My ultimate HG product is Elizabeth Arden lip protectant in Plum. It's the one product that I can't be without.

Most other things are interchangeable to some extent for me.

Ponks · 21/09/2021 23:10

Holy grail cleanser: Lancome Miel en Mousse, LOVE it. Also love the M&S rose cleansing balm.

Moisturiser: love No7 Protect and Perfect Intense day cream. Keep coming back to it, though I've tried loads of others over the last year or so.

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume has been a life saver when my skin has reacted to something and needs calming down.

Bumble & Bumble Sunday shampoo is a brilliant clarifying shampoo for hard water areas or after swimming.

Ameliorate transforming body lotion is fantastic for dealing with bumpy arms.

Experiment627 · 22/09/2021 01:27

@CommanderBurnham my dear Commander it is indeed a flippin minefield!!! GrinGrinGrin

@Ponks I agree with you about the Micellar water and the cicaplast baume.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 22/09/2021 08:04

Ooops - the micellar water was @WellTidy

CornishTiger · 22/09/2021 09:27

My HG list is a bit boring.

Moo goo deodorant , shampoo and conditioner. I like the leave in protein shot too. I am not linked to the company - promise!

Limelife mascara but once my stash of these is gone I’ll need to consider whether to purchase again as I don’t like their ethics around reps now. Temple spa do an almost identical one. I like the eyeliner one too. I have one in my stash so would like another recommendation.

The rest I’m pretty flexible. I have so much to use up.

Oh and I love Michelibr Arcier beaute aromatheraphie oil. Expensive but the smell! Instant heaven.

FluffyWhiteBird · 22/09/2021 10:31

My HG is:

Vichy Mineral 89 serum for day
Estée Lauder Night Recovery Complex serum for night
Lavandin face oil
Sure roll on deodorant
Gillette Satin Care Sensitive shave gel
Johnson and Johnson baby ear buds
Original Source Tea Tree And Mint shower gel
Vaseline Intensive Care Intensive Repair (white bottle) moisturizer
Simple Micellar Water face wash for morning
Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Scrub for night
Clarins Gel Cream moisturizer
Simple Rich Moisturizer
Maui Moisture Hibiscus shampoo

I'm still figuring out the rest.

MidnightMeltdown · 22/09/2021 10:44

@RoseHarper

I think part of the reason that a lot of things don't get great feedback is because of the price point.

I'm using an omorovicza moisturiser at the moment that I got in an advent calendar. It's a perfectly nice moisturiser, and if it cost £30 then I might consider rp. However this moisturiser retails for £90 and aside from coming in a glass bottle, does nothing that my standard £20 moisturiser from La Roche-Posay doesn't do. In fact I think I prefer the La Roche-Posay moisturiser.

When the price point is so high, you expect miracles, and in my experience, a lot of products just don't deliver.

RoseHarper · 22/09/2021 13:15

Really interesting seeing all the HG products. For those of you with a note of HG, can I ask why you buy others, is it the eternal search for better? Or just for the fun of trying new? I've got a smallish list and I find it really helps when I'm tempted, I know I love my hg, so wont waste time/money trying others, but I do get bored using the same stuff all the time.

Experiment627 · 22/09/2021 14:19

@RoseHarper I continue my quest to find HG products as I love trying new things and of course I may well find something better! Plus gives good content for my YT channel - LOL!

Justilou1 · 22/09/2021 14:55

THERE YOU ARE!!! I thought we’d broken up!!! How are you all??? On the cost vs effectiveness run, don’t you love all the (decent) skincare gurus on YouTube eye-rolling every time they see a celeb bring out the ubiquitous Barbara Sturm Bajillion Dollar Hyaluronic Serum and state very clearly that it’s no better than The Ordinary’s one? Also that La Mer is basically Nivea with algae? Meanwhile, I was going to say that lately I have noticed that the pricepoints between “drugstore” and “high-end” products are getting closer and closer together, although that may be just here in Australia. Examples are Olay Regenerist Night Cream with Retinol here $49.99rrp. Meanwhile, the Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask is only &36 here. Pretty sure I’d prefer the Glow Recipe.

Caggie09 · 22/09/2021 15:19

Ohh HG's for me are

Votary cleansing oil.
Cerave hydrating cleanser.
Fresh deep rose toner.
Cosrx snail mucin essence. (Recent HG)
The ordinary caffeine eye serum.
Sunday Riley ICE
Garnier SPF fluid.
Mitchum Roll on.
DDG peel pads.

Even though ive found HG'd i love trying new things out, so do stray often!!

Ive bought myself some SDJ goodies, even though i have about 50+ body lotions/creams to get through. I thought id get the huge Bum Bum cream as i love it so much!!
Also, the hotel minis are Molton Brown. I have a mini Pink pepper shower gel which i love, and was planning to purchase!

Joining in! I feel I may have been on a thread before. Attached a picture of my entire makeup collection, so happy I can fit it all in this storage box, its taken me around eight years to get to this!

The storage is stupidly stupidly expensive but it suits me perfectly as I can cart it about the house for my early morning starts.

Off to check out the rest of the thread Grin

Ooo @AColdDuncanGoodhew that's a thing of beauty, I have most of my makeup in an old toolbox for similar carting round; it's much less elegant than yours😂

Experiment627 · 22/09/2021 16:56

@Justilou1so glad you found us!
I have noticed that some "high street" brands are getting more expensive - yes. Here in the UK though we are lucky as places like Superdrug and Boots have fairly decent own brand ranges that are still relatively inexpensive.

@AColdDuncanGoodhew welcome! Or welcome back!! Your make-up case is lovely!!! I have way more make-up (this is not me bragging!). I have spilled over into 4 drawers plus a bag plus a make-up box.... however I am set on decluttering and hope to make a start on Friday!

Having a skint day so needing to buy what's on special offer and not my favourite.

Wanting something that smells different for a change.

Being distracted by pretty packaging.

I do buy my HG products more or less all the time though and sometimes interspersed use of those with other things in such a manner that my skin doesn't suffer for it (eg having two bottles of shower gel open and using them alternate days).

Some HG products have been found mid-way through a stash of impulse purchases, I'm not throwing the rest out just because I've found something suitable, partly because I might find something even better and partly because I hate waste.

The items I haven't yet found HG products for, I'm still experimenting.

I'm adding Radox bubble bath to my HG list. The stress relief one. I could sniff it all day, except I'd look like a weirdo.
