Pretty sure that everyone knows my undying love for Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I “generously” gave my DS the Frankenmask I made when I mixed all of my random pots together, as he’s just started Roaccutane treatment and he feels like he’s been snogging a cheese grater. So I’m all out!!!
What a pity there are holiday sets at Sephora…. I’m just so indecisive, though… I couldn’t choose between the set with the large unscented one and a mini Gingersnap and Berry, or the set with the new Peach Iced Tea and the Berry Lip Balm. Can you guess?
**Ahem.. Both. (Tbf, DS wants the balm for school.)

I got the holiday vibes advent from Sephora when I was in Ibiza. Resisting opening it Grin

Sephora here has 15% off...

No empties to report but I am arranging my stash by item. It looks a bit like a shop in a campsite currently, will report when complete.

JunieSpoony · 14/11/2021 00:38

@Passthebubbly what are your favourites?

@NotMyCat impressive empties collection!

@Justilou1 loving the snogging a cheese grater image Grin

Passthebubbly · 14/11/2021 09:08

@juniespoony don’t want to give too much away incase anyone here has it to look forward to. Only 2 duds for me in the box and I love a gorgeous detox max from a beautiful brand. Few filler items in it but I was delighted with most of it and good few things I have never tried

MidnightMeltdown · 14/11/2021 13:16

Just two small empties for me this week:

Weleda Skin Food - This came in an advent calendar or beauty box at some point. I made the mistake of thinking that I could use it as a body moisturiser and took it on an overnight stay. It says nourishing cream for face and body on the packaging, but it's really thick and sticky and doesn't sink in properly. It's like trying to moisturise your body with lip balm! I used it up on the dry skin on my feet, but it didn't do anything miraculous other than make my feet sticky. It seems to get good reviews online so god knows what people do with it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Soy Face Cleanser - nice gentle cleanser, doesn't dry out the skin. I seem to get a lot of these in calendars and beauty boxes but am always happy to use them. I don't think that it removes makeup as well as a balm cleanser though.

WellTidy · 14/11/2021 14:35

Two empties:

75ml Occitane almond shower oil - a favourite but I never buy it for myself, it’s always a gift so will not purchase

100ml weleda birch cellulite oil. I’ve had this on the go for ages, I think at one point I had two on the go. Really recommend - pleasant smell, very moisturising - but would not RP due to having so so much body lotion/cream/oil in the stash.

WellTidy · 14/11/2021 17:35

More empties -

Clinique even better foundation 30ml - used the last of it this morning after cutting the tube last week!

(Adopting a wide definition for the empties) True Grace seashore candle tin - absolutely loved this, very similar to Seychelles by White Company.

Ponks · 14/11/2021 17:40

Tried a couple of nights of "slugging" round my eyes, I didn't like the feel of the Vaseline but having said that, the skin round my eyes is feeling less sensitive.

A good few empties:

  • Prai neck and throat cream, one I keep repurchasing as I see the difference when I stop.
  • Filorga nitro filler moisturiser. A really decent sample size (15ml) from Feel Unique. Not bad, felt nice but perhaps more balmy than creamy.

Glow Recipe watermelon glow toner. Sort of half water half gel consistency. It's a PHA/BHA toner and very gentle. Wouldn't repurchase, not keen on the glass bottle.

  • No7 Lash Extender mascara. Probably my favourite mascara. I'm terrible for keeping mascaras too long and must have had this best part of a year (I know! Don't shout!). Will repurchase once finished my other couple of mascaras.
  • Eyeko liquid eyeliner: I'm also terrible at getting rid of this sort of thing, this must also be a year old , decision was made for me when I dropped it in a soapy basin of water. This is very good, I know its a bit of an advent calendar/ beauty box staple but it makes a cat eye flick very easy.
daisyjgrey · 15/11/2021 10:00

@MidnightMeltdown

I really like skinfood, it's quite a weird texture but if you use a little and warm it in your hands it's a good face moisturiser if you're dry skinned. I tend to use it more in the winter when I feel like I need more skin protection. I think Katie Jane Hughes on instagram has worked with them and uses skinfood as a sort of highlighter/moisturiser. It's a good primer too.

I would use it for my body unless it was a dry elbow or something, mainly because of what you described, it all gets a bit gloopy and sticky!

MidnightMeltdown · 15/11/2021 11:36

Thanks @daisyjgrey that's really interesting.

I have normal skin, which can be a little dry in the winter, but I really can't imagine putting this on my face. I think it would be far too thick for me, and I'd be worried about it giving me a breakout. Even the (very expensive) Chantecaille bio lifting cream just sat on the surface of my skin and didn't sink in, and skin food thicker than that. It's obviously just not the right product for me.

Justilou1 · 15/11/2021 13:06

@Ponks Glad the slugging is helping a bit. I know it’s slimy. You shouldn’t need too much Vaseline btw.. I just warm a teeny bit up on my ring fingers and pat it over my eye cream in a thin layer. I guess you could swap to mineral oil if you wanted, but I suspect that it would be worse on the pillow cases.

Justilou1 · 15/11/2021 13:17

@MidnightMeltdown - skin food is an interesting one.‘huge cult following. It’s a really old-fashioned ointment (or even unguent) which is basically lanolin, sunflower oil & beeswax, and a shitload of essential oils. (Partly to smell nice and partly to disguise the wet sheep smell of lanolin.) You’re actually not too far off the mark describing it as lip balm at all! Like you, I don’t like the texture of it. I don’t understand how KJH gets makeup to stick to it, but I live in a very humid part of the world, so that may affect that part. I wouldn’t trust that anything that oily wouldn’t screw with my sunscreen, and frankly, am dubious about the volatility of essential oils in the sun too. Meanwhile, it’s fab on dodgy cuticles overnight.

MidnightMeltdown · 15/11/2021 15:45

@Justilou1

I really should have looked into this more before attempting to use it as a body moisturiser 🤣.

The packaging just says rich, intensive skin care for face and body, and it has the word 'creme', so I thought it would be a handy moisturiser for travel! It's not a cream at all. Like you say, it's more of an ointment or balm.

I also can't imagine using this under makeup as I think the oil would dissolve makeup. Didn't think about putting it on my cuticles, but I'll try that if I ever get it again! Needless to say, I won't be repurchasing!

Justilou1 · 15/11/2021 22:35

@MidnightMeltdown - I keep getting samples of it every time I order from one specific “natural” company which is the only place that has a certain product I love. I keep them in the car. (Which gets super hot at this time of year, and that makes it just about useable!) It’s great on elbows and random crusty bits. I do find it too perfumed and greasy though. I don’t enjoy that kind of texture on my face.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 15/11/2021 22:45

The way you are describing the skin food reminds me of the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream - I just couldn’t get on with it despite its rave reviews.

daisyjgrey · 15/11/2021 22:53

All this talk of Skinfood made me dig mine out for this evening, I've done all the little dry bits of my face and I feel all wintery and cosy 😂

Justilou1 · 15/11/2021 22:59

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName - same. Again, to thick and too highly-perfumed. Same kind of ingredients too. It’s another lanolin-based one. I must say that a billion years ago, when I was a flight attendant (prior to kids, etc…). I used to pat a little 8hr cream along the tops of my cheekbones and around orbital bone to keep moisturiser on during flights. (Slugging again.) This was pre-highlighters and people used to comment on my glowy skin all the time. (It’s got a lovely, subtle sparkle.) If you want a glow and you don’t want to look like a Christmas Decoration or the Tin Man (I don’t understand the whole highlighter look these days…) You could try that one. (Also great for cuticles!)

MidnightMeltdown · 16/11/2021 01:22

@Justilou1 When I realised that it wasn't any good as a body moisturiser, I decided to use it up on the dry hard skin on my feet. It was ok, but nowhere near as good, or as nice, as a decent foot cream. I'm also not mad on the scent.

Funny that you should mention the 8 hour cream @SlatternIsMyMiddleName. It did remind me a bit of that, and I don't like that either. I've just never known what to do with these types of products. I'm sure that I have an 8 hour cream somewhere that I shoved in a drawer ages ago and never used. I might have to dig it out and try to use it for something....if it hasn't expired already.

Justilou1 · 16/11/2021 04:08

I have to be totally honest here… still think lanolin is still best left on sheep. While I am Aussie enough to love eating lamb, I have to cook it in the BBQ as the smell in the house makes me 🤢. I could never get past the idea that lanolin is basically sheep sebum. (Needless to say, very strong feelings about Lanolips 🥴😵‍💫🤮 - all entirely psychological.)

daisyjgrey · 16/11/2021 07:42

As far as I'm aware though, Skinfood doesn't have lanolin in. At least for the last few years anyway, it was replaced with Shea and coco butter to make it vegan 🤷🏼‍♀️

AprilLady · 16/11/2021 07:56

@MidnightMeltdown, I think we have similar skin types. I also can’t manage moisturisers that are at all thick, and which just sit on my skin rather than absorb.

Interesting discussion about lanolin. For me it will always be a hero product, thanks to Lansinoh which was a life saver in the early days of breastfeeding.

creampuff99 · 16/11/2021 08:02

I'm a bit late to the conversation but see that there has been mention of Skinfood. I have recently got Skinfood Light moisturiser and absolutely love it. I didn't get on with the regular Skinfood but the light one is a completely different story. I love it!
