That’s so impressive @NotMyCat

crispsarny · 28/10/2021 20:27

@NotMyCat looks great, I’m trying to get organised, not been very successful, you’ve given me some inspiration Smile

WellTidy · 28/10/2021 21:00

I think the time has come again for time to do a stock take. I did one maybe three years ago now, and made lists of all I had under headings eg cleanser, day cream, night cream etc, listing the product and the size. And then I made it a rule that I wouldn’t open a new product until I’d finished the one I was using.

I had 250 odd face and body products. Hardly any hair stuff or perfume as I don’t stash those for some reason. And then I made lists of what I aimed to finish each month. Rarely made the target, but I made huge inroads and used 100+ items in the first year.

Now the stash is much smaller but still a stash, there no two ways about it. However I bought cleanser this month for the first time in years (actually I bought two as Estée Lauder in boots was doing a GWP and old habits die hard Smile). I remember having maybe 11 or so when I did my last stock take.

Bought the Occitane advent calendar as a gift for someone today and got some almond samples, which are my favourites so I’m keeping the em. Also added the M&S beauty calendar to my order of thermals for the kids, and I will decide when it comes whether I’m keeping or making it a gift for our nanny 🤦🏻‍♀️

CommanderBurnham · 28/10/2021 21:20

@notmycat. That's a good stash!

@WellTidy well done. I'm getting onto the habit of resisting things until I'm almost at the end of my last of something. Which means I have a massive wish list that allows me to splurge when there's a GWP. It's a bit of a merry go round!

Justilou1 · 28/10/2021 22:29

I’m so impressed @NotMyCat!!! Also intimidated! What a great job! (Don’t suppose you want to come and help out at my place, do you? I’m in the middle of organizing and I swear I have gremlins undoing everything.)
@JunieSpoony - I hope you love the bits and pieces! (Especially the scent. I love it, but that’s so subjective!)

NotMyCat · 28/10/2021 22:32

Please note none of my makeup or skincare is on there BlushGrinBlush
I buy stuff on offer and stash so sometimes there is 10 hand soaps as they were 20p or washing powder or hair conditioner as TK maxx had it in. I feel better now I can actually see what I have, although there is about 40 more products in my bathrooms!

Justilou1 · 28/10/2021 22:48

I might have “accidentally” purchased the Fenty Glossy Posse lipgloss set yesterday. Tbf, I I wear these things every day. (Even with masks)

TheChosenTwo · 28/10/2021 22:57

@Justilou1 where did you get the lipgloss set from? Was it Boots? I wear them too…asking for… yes myself Grin

Justilou1 · 28/10/2021 22:59

Remember I live in Australia… We can only get it from Sephora with the blood of our firstborn. I’m sure you have more options. 🤩

TheChosenTwo · 28/10/2021 23:00

Oh haha! Sorry Grin
Well we have it in Harvey Nichols and also Boots, I’ve added it to my basket.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, quite jealous of your Sephora even though we do have Boots which is becoming more and more like a Sephora slowly!

Justilou1 · 28/10/2021 23:29

Enabler Alert My review of the Fenty Glossy Posse Lipgloss Set. Fabulous Christmas Present for yourself.
Btw, this is the best Fenty Gloss set yet!!! Whoever created this set is a wonderful artist capable of creating a colour palette that would suit any skin colour and any season. This is a really clever range of choices. I have purchased the last two, and have ended up giving one or two to my daughters. I’m keeping all of these. I’m not even going to tell them I have it!
It has a full-size cream gloss called Drip Lip (ugh) that is a gorgeous rosy, deep nude shade that would suit everyone - regardless of skin colour. I think it would work all year round, too. It is the most deeply pigmented of any of their glosses I have ever encountered. (Almost a juicy lipstick!) The other three are minis that are simply much more exciting than previous years. There are two re-takes of previous colours, but with different shifting sparkle (verging on holo, but subtle and wearable) they’re calling a “fantasy formula” - and they’re GORGEOUS! (The browny nude one, which was my previous favourite “Hot Choklit”, And the OG “Glow” - somehow more transparent, but warmer because of the subtle shifting shimmer. Still peachy-toned and utterly wearable in this version. However, my fave this year was a surprise. It was the one that appealed least. There is a pale, champagne-gold called “Champ Stamp”. In the tube it looks like a bog-standard twinkly gold gloss, but I have never had anything like it. It’s a subtle, flattering shimmer on the lips and I put some on after I’d had a glass of wine with my bestie last night. She’s not a makeup wearer at all, and her eyes bugged. She said it looked like I’d given myself an instant lip job. (But in a good way.) Also, “If I noticed, it MUST be pretty obvious!!!” It’s a keeper!!!

TheChosenTwo · 29/10/2021 06:40

Oh ffs @Justilou1 I’m going to have to get one for my dd1 aswell 🤦🏽‍♀️

latedecember1963 · 29/10/2021 11:02

Very impressive shelving unit, Notmycat! Most of my stash is squirreled away. I have an arrangement with my best friend that if I were to pass away unexpectedly she would immediately come and 'edit' my beauty and candle collections to more acceptable levels. 😁
I've got a few items to get rid of today that I've sorted through over the last couole of weeks.
The Neal's Yard handwash is nice but I wouldn't pay full price for it. I got it on special offer.
The Body Shop deodourant is a regular purchase. Simple but effective.
Really like the Clinique foundation sample and will probably buy a bottle once I have used up my current EL doublewear light.
I like the Pur primer but M and S don't seem to stock it anymore which is a shame. I bought it after it was in an M and S Advent Calendar a couple of years ago.
The Rituals night cream was a free sample. Very nice and I would consider purchasing once I've used up night creams I already have.
Various eye pencils that have gone dry or claggy.
Need to confess to getting the M and S Advent calendar.

@latedecember1963 I use that Clinique even better foundation too. I’ve got one Estée Lauder double wear light foundation left in the stash, and then I will RP the Clinique. I really like both. A shame that EL DWL is being discontinued though. I’ve tried the EL futurist hydra rescue foundation as an alternative but the coverage is much reduced and it does transfer on me (even with the HG of primers, which for me is Benefit pore-fessional).

Finished a sample of an Estée Lauder BB cream today, gawd knows how long I’ve had it. I think in the meantime it’s been discontinued which is a shame! It basically went on like a grey colour and then changed to my skin tone pretty much immediately. Nice finish and glow.

crispsarny · 29/10/2021 13:02

Oh lol @TheChosenTwo @Justilou1 I’ll have to get one as well now & I haven’t worn lipgloss or any make up for years! Justilou you’d be a great sales rep Smile

MidnightMeltdown · 29/10/2021 13:13

@WellTidy

This is my routine (in the spirit of sharing!):

AM-
Estée Lauder foaming cleanser
Every couple of days - Pixi glycolic toner (I’ve only just reintroduced this after a massive flare up, cause unknown, but my skin seems to be responding well)
Estée Lauder idealist skin perfecting lotion
Eye cream (any, but I’ve liked Occitane lately and am just about to start Filorga)
Estée Lauder day wear moisturiser

PM-
Garnier micellar water to remove make up
Same Estée Lauder cleanser
Estée Lauder advanced night repair serum (HA based, I think)
Eye cream
Estée Lauder moisturising balm (it begins with an ‘R’, possibly Resilience)

I’ve used so many products in the past and created skin problems for myself. I am back to my trusted EL now and it is working well for me. But the temptation to branch out is huuuuuge.

Interesting that you use Micellar water before your cleanser. I'm never quite sure which way to do it, but I tend to use Micellar water after cleanser based on the assumption that it should double as a toner.

MidnightMeltdown · 29/10/2021 13:14

Mind you, I suppose it depends to some extent on whether or not your cleanser is designed to remove makeup.

MidnightMeltdown · 29/10/2021 13:38

My routine is something like this:

AM
Cleanser
Toner
Serum (usually Vit C, but could be HA, anti pollution or something else)
Eye cream
Moisturiser
SPF (unless it's a dull winter day and I'm staying at home)
Occasionally a facial oil in winter

PM
Cleanser to remove makeup
Micellar water
Serum (I tend to rotate between HA, retinal and glycolic on different days)
Eye cream
Moisturiser
Sometimes a facial oil

WellTidy · 29/10/2021 14:26

@MidnightMeltdown I use the micellar water first only because it takes off my mascara. If I use the cleanser first, because it is a foaming one, the mascara ends up washed down my face! I have no idea what I’m doing with it all so I’m really enjoying reading what others use regularly.

WellTidy · 29/10/2021 14:27

I also forgot that I use Elemis dynamic resurfacing cleanser (or something like that) every few days instead of my Estée Lauder one. The Elemis is the bees knees, leaves my skin looking so good, and you don’t need much of it. But I don’t need it every day.

JunieSpoony · 29/10/2021 15:30

Thanks to everyone for posting their routines. I think I have more questions about the appropriate order than I did before!

One empty to report: a 5ml sample of IT primer. It's lasted ages! I may or may not have squeezed extra out today just to be done with it. I was thinking I didn't like it much, but I now think it might be the moisturiser underneath that I don't like. It seems to lurk and linger and has a bit of a white cast.

TheChosenTwo · 29/10/2021 17:25

@Justilou1 I actually saw these in Boots today and swatched the testers - they were all mega sparkly, too sparkly for me! Very pretty though, but I’m glad I tested them first. 15% off at Boots though so I bought a few bits anyway Grin

MidnightMeltdown · 29/10/2021 23:19

@WellTidy

Yes that does happen to me sometimes too 😂. However I find that if I use Micellar water first, I don't always manage to remove all the mascara on the first go, so I end up still having some back under my eyes after cleansing, and then I need to go back and use the Micellar water again.

WellTidy · 30/10/2021 08:33

@MidnightMeltdown I had a moment of revelation with micellar water and mascara. To get it all off in one go, I realised that I needed to do the underside of my top eyelashes too. I had been closing my eyes and wiping downwards. Now I also open my eyes and wipe upwards. And it all comes off that way for me. Obviously the entire population might have already realised that!

Experiment627 · 30/10/2021 11:25

@Justilou1 I agree about the millia. I am so lucky as I recently found a beautician who will go in with a needle and has helped sort two of mine.
Great review BTW

@NotMyCat I like the shelves

@latedecember1963 what a great friend!

@MidnightMeltdown I usually wash off any micellar water as I feel like it is watered down washing up liquid...

I have some empties to report:

  • Nivea in shower moisturiser (dark blue one): I adore this! It is HG and will repurchase but first want to get through some other creams I have open
  • Lactovit nutritivo shower gel: love everything about this will no doubt RP but am going to try soap for a while...
  • Lush bubblegum lip scrub: love this but always forget to use so end up using up on body as it dries out

Am excited that I will be starting my first advent on Monday!!!!!
