Do you like the curated ear look?

And if you do, where do you normally buy your flat back earrings from?

I have this kind of thing and like really small earrings though I'm quite bored with what I have now and looking for some ideas!

@AleynEivlys I really like your piercings, I'm agreed that "curated" sounds very silly.

I'm currently sporting a titanium barbell in my left daith and I can't wait for it to heal. I'm already eyeing up pretty hoops or sparkly barbells.

I'm also considering a forward helix in the same ear, it's catching!

RoseyCake · 03/08/2021 09:07

@AleynEivlys oh wow that is quite a selection you have/plan to get! I did contemplate getting a daith at the same time but my last two were a nightmare to heal, took at least a year! so I chickend out. I have helix , tragus, horizontal lobe on one side and forward helix and anti tragus on the other 😊

Oblomov21 · 03/08/2021 09:10

Curated ear. Oh you mean multiple earrings? Why do they come up with these new fandango'ed words?

Iggi999 · 03/08/2021 09:10

Don't they (or didn't they, if you're in England) get in the way of your face masks? I've stopped wearing earrings entirely since masks came in.

Iggi999 · 03/08/2021 09:11

What kind of age range typically goes for this look?

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 03/08/2021 09:11

Curated?🤣🤣🤣🤣
Anyway, I like flat back earrings because I’m old and my ear lobes have gone thin, so butterflies look terrible. Shame as I have some lovely earrings.

SusannaM · 03/08/2021 09:13

I thought curated ear was going to be a typo!
My ears are quite tame compared to some of yours, only 3 in each lobe, haven't worked up the courage for cartilage yet and I take forever to heal. Unfortunately I can only wear titanium or nobidium, which is a shame, some of the earrings linked here are beautiful.

LeonardoAcropolis · 03/08/2021 09:13

@LordOfTheThings are you going to change your name to LordOfTheEarrings?

Purplecatshopaholic · 03/08/2021 09:14

I love a curated ear, and have had mine ‘curated’ for years before I heard the term!

wizzywig · 03/08/2021 09:14

It's like an ear version of a Pandora bracelet

SusannaM · 03/08/2021 09:15

@Iggi999

Well I'm 50+, but also wear Vans and flares, so perhaps not an advocate for style and beauty Grin

I’m one of those who pierced their ear loads in the 90s so I’m pleased that you can pick and mix earrings. I also look on Etsy too.

SusannaM · 03/08/2021 09:19

Also just realised that the flat backs everyone is talking about here are just labrets, I thought you were all meaning a new type. Labrets are such hard work, I've just gone back to butterflies, but they do make the back of my ear look cluttered.

TertiusLydgate · 03/08/2021 09:20

I’m feeling ancient as I’ve never heard of ‘curated’ ears nor flat-back earrings.

Anyway, my multiple piercings (all done by myself) were resurrected from their decades lying dormant. I had a cartilage piercing about 15 years ago too. I take them out at night, not knowing flat-backs were even a thing.

DinosaurDiana · 03/08/2021 09:22

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

I'm old, we all had curated ears in the 80s, who knew ?Grin
Exactly.
Thewiseoneincognito · 03/08/2021 09:22

Curated ear?!? LMAO That’s a fancy name for a load of cheapo earrings splattered onto every visible piece of your ear. Not for me thank you.

AleynEivlys · 03/08/2021 09:25

Thank you @LeonardoAcropolis. I found my daith healed quite easily, but it did go through a stage of having huge gross bumps on it. In the end I tried manuka oil on it and they went away!

@RoseyCake I like it! Especially the horizontal lobe. 😍 I'd definitely go ahead and get the daith. They are tucked away so don't get bashed about much.

@Iggi999 I am 33 now, started getting pierced when I was 32. Until then I had had nothing but two double lobes and one helix since I was 16. Lots of people start doing it aged 30-40+ though you see lots of younger people too. There isn't (and shouldn't be) an age limit on these things IMO.

Also just wanted to say that while 'curated' ears can incorporate existing piercings people got when they were younger - the average set of lobes and helix, etc. - nowadays it's often about having all sorts of different bits of your ear pierced, such as the daith or rook, or groups of tiny earrings close together on the flat or as a 'stacked' lobe, etc. A sort of constellation of piercings, if you will.

All should compliment eachother while remaining an 'eclectic' (🤮) mix, if you're going to do it properly ... which I totally haven't, but that's ok - I'm very happy with them as they are!

ginghamstarfish · 03/08/2021 09:29

'curated'? how pretentious!

Hawkmoth · 03/08/2021 09:36

So hoops of ascending sizes is bad now? Help.

Housewife2010 · 03/08/2021 09:42

On the Cupcakes & Cashmere blog they call it an "Ear Party". 😉

AgathaHarkness · 03/08/2021 10:00

I have seen it called an "ear story" before!

Iggi999 - I'm 39 and have been filling my ears with piercings for a year (not great with mask straps). I don't think age matters. It's very addictive - I need a conch and a rook next!

I like BVLA, Maria Tash and Laura Bond, Metier by Tomfoolery has some interesting designs.

Chachachawoo · 03/08/2021 10:22

Does anyone feel their piercings have helped with headaches?
Or is that nonsense?
Sorry to derail

SusannaM · 03/08/2021 10:22

Why do people feel the need to reply like this? You could just say you prefer a pair of earrings or that you're not a fan of piercings, maybe even recommend some nice earrings. But the LMAO and cheapo comment is just being unpleasant for the sake of it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/08/2021 10:25

It's nonsense according to my physio/ acupuncturist. Might help within the first few mins but not continue to. Acupressure would work though on the ear as you can do it when needed.

PigeonPink · 03/08/2021 10:29

I love this look. I do think you can go overboard and have too many piercings though. My max would be 4-5 per ear.
