Ive been using boots advanced serum for the past few weeks and i have to admit that im a bit disappointed so far! My skin doesn't look that much different than when i started! What serums actually work on a 40year old . I thought id be all glowy by now but I look as patchy and grey as i usually do in the winter 🤣

Acids: glycolic for ageing and dry
Salicylic: oily blemish prone

What if you have dry skin prone to blemishes?

Nuitsdesetoiles · 26/02/2021 15:10

The Ren products work a treat on me. Glycolic toner plus the glycolic facial peel mask, then anti redness sensitive skin serum and youth moisturiser.
At night I use la Roche posay retinol serum and ren overnight balm. Skin a lot smoother and glowing. I've just ordered la Roche posay vit C serum so will see what that does. All Ren products are vegan and cruelty free. A lot of the big brand beauty department store type ranges are tested on animals.

@PeacheyPeach

The Superdrug is 5% glycolic. The Clarins has no actives just tons of hydrating and moisturising ingredients so they're unlikely to react with each other.

I'd start off gradually with the glycolic. A couple of evenings a week first.

Blimey, I use nothing on my skin except sunscreen (and soap) and even I am considering getting the Clarins Double serum (edging to 39 so I do feel like it would be time ...)!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/02/2021 16:53

@curlytops I think it gives me good results. I'm told I don't look my age, and not being able to have facials for months, this must be down to what I put on it. I'm another one who can't wear the Estee Lauder one, it made me quite sore. Thanks for the info @Housewife2010 and @FreshFaceTime.

FreshFaceTime · 26/02/2021 17:32

So when are we applying the clarins serum? Morning/night/both?

HollowTalk · 26/02/2021 17:55

I've ordered the Clarins Double Serum and am hoping for a miracle!

FreshFaceTime · 26/02/2021 18:00

Think I'm far more excited about it than I should be...

woodhill · 26/02/2021 18:01

I apply it at night and Vit C in the morning

FreshFaceTime · 26/02/2021 18:06

Well @curlytops21 has promised miracles so...
FreshFaceTime · 26/02/2021 18:06

Thanks!
HollowTalk · 26/02/2021 18:09

@curlytops21 will be sued if that miracle doesn't happen!

LeonaV · 26/02/2021 18:10

Charlotte Tilbury serum is good but the diffused light powders from Hourglass are amazing at giving you a glow as is Nars Multiple.

Curlytops is reading all these comments and feeling the pressure 🙈. I hope you all like it!

woodhill · 26/02/2021 18:19

I think you will. It feels fab on your skin

I think this is why I feel it's expensive - because it has no actives. However, it is fab. 😍

curlytops21 · 26/02/2021 18:22
@curlytops21 - hi

It's the Avon one. Tbh it's hard to tell with all these products as you can't remember what your skin was like before. I'm in my 50s
Thanks - I will check it out. I've actually got a vitamin c superpower serum or something from Lidl at the moment which is pretty good actually and was only £3! A far cry from the Clarins one 😂

FreshFaceTime · 26/02/2021 18:24

Love to balance out my splurge products with budget ones!

woodhill · 26/02/2021 18:27

Yes I'm the same

StepOutOfLine · 26/02/2021 20:15

I've placed my Feel Unique order Grin
I balanced out the Clarins £££ by buying a cheap as chips Inkey List retinol. Grin

Are we going to keep this thread going as we all start to look 18 then?

PeacheyPeach · 26/02/2021 20:20

So if i order the double serum would i only use this once a day or morning and night?

They will tell you to use it morning and night but i would save it and use once a day. I'll probably use this in the morning as that's what i did before and I defo got the glow. I use the glycolic acid toner at night, followed by another (cheaper!) serum.
curlytops21 · 26/02/2021 21:15

I just realised that if we'd done this properly, we could have used the escentual referral scheme and started a pyramid-style referral system so we each refer the next person to try and get us all an extra £5 off it each! Alas, we did not. 😂

MintyCedric · 26/02/2021 21:20

Clarins Lotus treatment oil for combination skin.

I don't use it daily but when I do I always get compliments on my skin.

FreshFaceTime · 26/02/2021 22:51

@curlytops21 So would you use your clarins and the cheapo lidl vit C in the morning or just swap the clarins in? Have absolutely no idea what I'm doing so never sure when to add and when to substitute. I'm thinking of saving it for night as I don't have a serum that I already use at night. But might swap to morning after a week or so if no sign of that miracle... Grin

@MintyCedric have had my eye on that too but really need to show some restraint having frittered away far too much during lockdown sprees - going to use up a few other bits first and treat myself to that as a reward!
