Ive been using boots advanced serum for the past few weeks and i have to admit that im a bit disappointed so far! My skin doesn't look that much different than when i started! What serums actually work on a 40year old . I thought id be all glowy by now but I look as patchy and grey as i usually do in the winter 🤣

I think you already know the answer...

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/02/2021 16:14

@StepOutOfLine. Can you come back and tell us when you do? I have this serum, but DH bought it for Christmas so I haven't felt the pain of buying it myself yet.

curlytops21 · 25/02/2021 16:21

Alas, you hardly ever get any offers for this serum. The best you can hope for is to spend even more and get a freebie, or buy from Boots and get extra points. In for a penny... 🤩

Do you find it as amazing as I did? I'm sort of hoping you say no...

FreshFaceTime · 25/02/2021 16:24

Well it's £58 on feel unique and I have a £5 reward voucher in my account, so... BARGAIN!

Feelunique have an offer on now where you get a goody bag when you spend £100.
FreshFaceTime · 25/02/2021 16:27

@Housewife2010 NOT HELPFUL!!!

cakebythepound1234 · 25/02/2021 16:35

I use Ole Henriksen vitamin c Banana bright serum. Been using it for around 6 weeks and I've definitely noticed a difference. It's pricey, but I ordered it from an online retailer who completely balsed up the delivery so they ended up sending me one for free - result!

@curlytops21

Funnily enough, just last night I came across some photos from 2 years ago of when i first used Clarins double serum. I loved it but it was soooo expensive I soon moved onto other things and happily get along with Avene Hydrance serum.

However, the glow on my face in these photos is amazing. I even remember messaging my sister with a photo at the time to say, "hey, I tried this sample and look at my glow, but can I spend £60 on a serum?". she told me to buy it.

I'm now thinking i must return to it 😱 so if anyone knows of anything as good as this for less money, please let me know!

I clicked on this thread to see if anyone mentioned Clarins Double Serum. It really is amazing!
shamalidacdak · 25/02/2021 17:03

Timeless vitamin c serum but to really glow you need to start acids. Mandelic is gentle

TaraR2020 · 25/02/2021 17:22

To brighten your complexion you need something like Vitamin C

I'm also in love with The Ordinary Niacinamide serum and their Moisturising Factors cream.

Eclat are another reasonably priced brand that still seem to be flying under the radar but I'm not sure why - currently using their Vit C and its easy to order through Amazon

Rosehip oil is a great moisturiser that is beneficial for skin - I like The Inkey List one.

You might also benefit from an exfoliant, if you don't want to try something as harsh as retinol, try Bakuchiol serum - don't think The Ordinary does it yet but Inkey List does.

Also just tried and fell in love with Keys Soulcare Harmony Mask, bit pricey but transformed my winter skin in one application.

TaraR2020 · 25/02/2021 17:24

P.s. you need to give it 3 months to really see the benefits from a new skincare routine but the products I mentioned are ones that seem to deliver an immediate oomph for me!

FreshFaceTime · 25/02/2021 17:39

@TaraR2020 I like the trilogy rosehip oil. I use it at night before moisturiser and I feel like I noticed a difference quite quickly. Sooner than I expected to anyway!

I think with yet another endorsement for the clarins serum I'm going to have to put it into the March budget as a must-have Grin

TaraR2020 · 25/02/2021 18:01

@FreshFaceTime thank you for the recommendation, I'm off to check it out!

Begonias · 25/02/2021 18:14

I've been using boots serums and creams for 18 months and they did nothing for my skin. However a friend recommended superdrug own brand serums and I'm really impressed with them. Been using them for three months and had no breakouts, skin looks clear and plump.
Twice a week I use the overnight glycolic peel and retinol serum.
I use their radiance balm and eye cream daily.
Mud mask once a week and drink plenty of water.

woodhill · 25/02/2021 18:18

I like Double serum at night and use vit C serum in the daytime

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 25/02/2021 18:49

I have been using The Ordinary Niacinamide and zinc since lockdown 1 and my female work friends have commented on how good my skin looks.

I saw a programme on c5 about skin care and the doctor said if you are going to use one serum make it a vitamin c one.

BobbitWormNightmares · 25/02/2021 19:06

I like the ordinaey stuff. I use the moisturizer, hyaluronic acid, and sometimes the hemi sqalane (which is also great as a hair oil)

I agree their vit c powder and suspensions feel unpleat - but they are so cheap and without all the extra muck.

Has anyone used Estée Lauder Advanced night serum?

BobbitWormNightmares · 25/02/2021 19:06

The Lumene vitamin c serum in the orange bottle is lovely and gives an instant glow. But now I’m trying to convince myself there is room in my stash for Clarins double serum...

TaraR2020 · 25/02/2021 19:31

@BobbitWormNightmares (interesting username!) I have had a couple of advanced night repair samples and I wish it wasn't so expensive because I loved it- their eyecream noticeably plumped and smoothed out fine lines

marchduck · 25/02/2021 20:07

I like the Claris Double Serum, but for me an acid toner followed by an essence type product are more effective for glow than serum.

MarieFromStTropez · 25/02/2021 20:13

I can’t bring myself to use Clarins since I discovered their products are tested on animals 😞.

Pusspot · 25/02/2021 20:30

@BobbitWormNightmares I have been using EL Night Repair for three weeks and really like it. Too early to see any real results, but it gives a lovely glow straight after application. I use it under makeup too. I have used Clarins Double Serum in the past but it gave me patches of dry sore skin around my mouth.

Pusspot · 25/02/2021 20:35

@TaraR2020 there is usually a 20% discount codes for ELNR on Look Fantastic etc. I wouldn’t pay full price! I bought it for myself as a post covid pick me up and I’ve not been disappointed. The larger size 50ml is better value. I’ve hardly made a dent in my bottle yet.
