Hello all. I had Invisalign fitted today and would love some positive stories about how quickly I'm going to get used to them because at the moment I'm thinking this may have been a very expensive mistake!

Do you look like you're wearing a gumshield? I'm worried that I do..

Aftertheharvest · 12/01/2021 09:03

It does feel bulky to me but don't think it is obvious to others.

westr · 12/01/2021 21:54

My aligner cracked today so I've moved on to the next one. It's v tight again so I'm going to take nurofen and go to bed.

Still lisping, sigh. Or "thigh", I suppose that would be.

Oh no hope you're ok @westr

My speech seems to get worse as the day goes on!

pitterpatterrain · 13/01/2021 22:16

Just got my images through today, will sign them off and then waiting...!

Dickorydockwhatthe · 13/01/2021 23:03

Oh no not sure how I feel reading this now. Due to get mine in Feb and panicking over costs, what they will look like and if they will actually work as my teeth moved back after train tracks. Does anyone have a permanent retainer?

pitterpatterrain · 13/01/2021 23:21

I will end with a permanent retainer

welliwasntexpectingthat · 13/01/2021 23:24

You definitely will, best thing i've ever done for myself.

SEE123 · 13/01/2021 23:44

@westr how did your aligner crack? That's quite odd

Stick with it - best decision I ever made. Not only straighter teeth but I no longer grind my teeth either so my jaw isn't constantly aching and headaches have gone!

I'd also recommend ensuring that you're brushing after all food and drink (except water), and with an electric toothbrush. It's a faff but really has improved the overall state of my teeth and gums.

SEE123 · 13/01/2021 23:46

@Dickorydockwhatthe

I had train tracks but wasn't advised on using retainer, so like yours mine moved back - waste of bloody time!

You can get a fixed retainer to maintain your Invisalign results, but if you do not use retainer or get a fixed one, you may have some movement. How much depends on you.

I went to a well-respected orthodontist for a consultation & he said he does Invisalign-like aligners but that they make them themselves; so they’re not actually Invisalign. It said in the letter that he’d be seeing me every 6-8 weeks, not every 2 like Invisalign does. What do you think? He’s in business for 40 years & has a good reputation...

kwest · 13/01/2021 23:58

Two months ago I finished 18 months of Invisalign to correct my very crooked teeth. I’m 58 yrs old but have hated my teeth for years. You will not regret having Invisalign - best thing I ever did.
I have both a fixed retainer for upper and lower teeth which is on the front six teeth. I also wear a retainer at night. You are supposed to aim for 12 hrs. As it’s lockdown and I’m not doing anything on the social front, that’s not a problem! I think after a year of wearing retainer every night you can start to wear it less frequently. Totally worth it - Invisalign isn’t cheap and I want to “protect” my investment.

westr · 14/01/2021 15:42

@SEE123 apparently it's quite common for the first or second tray to crack while you get used to taking them in and out. I was removing each time from one side so I think that weakened it.

How is everyone doing? Aligner 2 still pretty tight but not painful as such. Still waiting for the trays to feel completely normal...

Don't want to derail the thread but I was hit by a car Monday so that's kind of taken over . Currently bedridden by the pain with stitches in my head but lucky to be alive with no bones broken . The Invisalign is still in and I get my teenagers to clean them for me whilst I eat but am barely eating . By day 4 the aligners were not tight at all . I have sores all over my mouth but I don't know if that's a side effect of the medication I'm on .

pitterpatterrain · 14/01/2021 21:29

Oh gosh mooncats!! Shock
That sounds awful and hope your recover proceeds well

westr · 14/01/2021 21:30

Sorry to hear that @mooncats and hope you are ok!

OP posts:
mooncats · 14/01/2021 22:10

My brother thought I was nuts flossing my teeth whilst I can barely move and brushing my aligners whilst propped up by pillows but needs must ! Thanks for the well wishes , I'm in a huge amount of pain right now and was discharged prematurely as my bed was needed for a Covid patient but I'm very grateful to still be here .

TheChosenTwo · 15/01/2021 11:09

Blimey @mooncats - that’s all a bit dramatic Shock
Hope the pain subsides soon and glad you’ve got the teens to keep the Invisalign in tip top condition! Get well soon Flowers

Aftertheharvest · 15/01/2021 19:02

Sending you wishes for a speedy recovery @mooncats - impressed with your dedication to Invisalign!

viques · 15/01/2021 19:12

Just a quick question, I have quite a lot of fillings, does this mean I wouldn’t be a suitable candidate for Invisalign?

viques · 15/01/2021 19:13

Meant to send good wishes to mooncat! Sorry

Flowers
YesIDoLoveCrisps · 16/01/2021 23:21

Crikey Mooncat sending best wishes Flowers

westr · 17/01/2021 16:34

Hope you're recovering mooncats!

How's everyone's teeth doing? I'm almost 2 weeks in and the lisp has definitely improved. DH has finally noticed the aligners but only because I was drinking wine with a straw!

OP posts:
westr · 17/01/2021 16:35

I don't know about fillings as I only have one, sorry

OP posts:
Aftertheharvest · 19/01/2021 18:54

How's everyone doing, after a week the trays were feeling less clunky in my mouth, speech ok etc. Even started eating before remembering hadn't taken them out. On to tray two tonight, hoping it's not back to the beginning on sores and speech!
