Hello all. I had Invisalign fitted today and would love some positive stories about how quickly I'm going to get used to them because at the moment I'm thinking this may have been a very expensive mistake!

The day after mine were fitted they were hurting so much I didn’t think I’d be able to go through with it, but it was never that bad for any of the subsequent aligners. The lisp goes in a day or two.

Buy some stainless steel straws, I drank all my drinks through them - coffee and red wine included.

I don’t regret mine for a second...well only that I didn’t do it years ago

Hohofortherobbers · 05/01/2021 22:07

Following with interest, how much does it cost or is it really variable on how much you have to have done?

westr · 05/01/2021 22:16

Mine is about £4k with whitening and retainers for after the treatment. I didn't shop around though and that's London prices so I think you can get cheaper.

They are starting to hurt quite a lot now so I'm encouraged by all the positive experiences being shared.

Would any of you be able to post before and after pics if it doesn't identify you? I'd love to see some results

westr · 05/01/2021 23:03

I can try! Let's see if it make it through the week first though

Do the copies of Invisalign work?

Tinkletwat · 06/01/2021 09:28

Hang on in there! First week is the hardest, found my attachments scraped the inside of my mouth and it was more comfortable to have the aligners in than out.

There is a lot of information and support on the Invisalign subreddit. There's also some info about the downsides of smile direct etc, I'd stay away personally as it sounds like there can be a lot of problems and I'm glad to have monthly dentist appointments with Invisalign, problems can be sorted quickly (eg of a tooth isn't moving etc). SDC make you sign a waiver I think so you can't publicly write a bad review plus it only moves the front few teeth.

I'd recommend the boots version of Bongela as it has some lidocaine in it. I use Steradent rather than the expensive cleaning crystals, much cheaper and same result. I had to present to a large group of people for 1 hour the day I got mine, the more talking you do the quicker the lisp goes. Keep water handy, your mouth might get dry and I find I use more lip balm than before.

I'm on my second round of refinements but can remember the early days well, I had buyers remorse for a week or so but now I wonder why I didn't start the process sooner. It took me to about aligner 8 I think to see any changes, your back teeth will move first so keep an eye out for that, don't get discouraged!

BaublesAndBawbags · 06/01/2021 12:11

Ditto to all the above - i too spent the first week convinced I'd made a horrendous and expensive mistake, while the attachments shredded my tender underlip area... But you do get used to it and thought the results seem very slow at first, they're definitely happening. I found one of my early aligners in the car a few weeks ago and couldn't believe how wonky my teeth had been.

I'm on my first round of refinements now, mainly to move a stubborn front tooth; I was a bit lax over Christmas so I'm trying to get back into better desk habits Blush. If you haven't downloaded Trayminder for your phone, do it - it's amazing how quickly a few random coffees eats up your 3 hours off.

bendmeoverbackwards · 06/01/2021 12:34

My dd is on week 8, so far all good other than some occasional discomfort. Haven’t seen much movement yet, not noticeablely anyway.

Good shout re Trayminder, take a snap right now of them in and one with them out so you can see the progress
westr · 06/01/2021 14:12

Thanks guys. I've just downloaded TrayMinder.
Still some sensitivity today but not as much as yesterday. Pain is not too bad and have managed a zoom with my boss with them in!

The before Is from the photos the orthodontist took with the things in that get your lips out of the way, the ‘after’ I just snapped a selfie quickly! You can’t really tell from the photo but my arch is now correctly rounded rather than the triangular shape it was.

Agree that the beginning was a bit depressing- all that mucking about with the fixatives to keep the aligners in place. I never experienced pain (had braces as a teen and teeth removed then so plenty of gaps). But I'd recommend starting a new tray at night time before bed with some pain relief just in case. TBH the other side upon completion, more mucking about removing fixatives then getting used to teeth whitening (developed extreme gum sensitivity.) I am delighted - now grin in all photos and Nanny McPhee tooth has been tamed! You do start to notice other people's wonky teeth more. Mine cost £3500. The dentist has been available to me through lock down.

Hohofortherobbers · 06/01/2021 21:09

Wow squiz81, that is a huge difference! Thank you for sharing your pics

westr · 06/01/2021 22:37

They look great squiz81!

I'm feeling pretty miserable right now tbh. My gums and tongue hurt... time for some more painkillers I think!

OP posts:
SheeshazAZ09 · 06/01/2021 22:43

The pain quickly disappeared for me and the results are worth it. I had a slight lisp for a while but no longer. Stick with it, you won’t regret it.

westr · 06/01/2021 23:17

Thanks for all the support and advice!

OP posts:
westr · 08/01/2021 19:00

I'm really not enjoying this. The trays still feel massive in my mouth and I'm still lisping really badly.

OP posts:
Aftertheharvest · 08/01/2021 19:24

How long have you had them in now? I've had mine fitted today and my dentist told me I'd hate him for the first week 🙈

westr · 08/01/2021 19:43

Got mine fitted on Tuesday so on day 4. I'll give it 3 more days! How are yours feeling?

OP posts:
Aftertheharvest · 08/01/2021 19:54

Rubbing at underneath of top lip and bit tight but not bad so far. Preparing myself for worse to come. Constantly sipping water through straw and applying lip balm! Glad this is happening during lockdown!

westr · 08/01/2021 20:00

Yeah that's exactly why I got mine now! Let me know how you get on

OP posts:
thelake · 08/01/2021 20:00

Use dental wax to start with and then it's fine.

Aftertheharvest · 08/01/2021 20:01

I've got 23 trays planned but am expecting will need more than than in the end.

mooncats · 09/01/2021 16:34

Got mine fitted and no major pain , am I going to be in for a shock? Had them for a few hours and they're just slightly tight and achy
