Thank you so much for all your brilliant suggestions. I'm aware the last thread is running out, so I've added a new one, just in case we have any more suggestions from a bygone era, or we want to review any new purchases (I have loads on order at the moment!). Thanks to @kojolo for the thread title. Here's the link to the old one: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3944582-To-realise-I-like-old-lady-things

Meant to add that of course not all old ladies love lavender and shortbread etc but this is a lovely feel good thread and just what we need in the current climate.

IntermittentParps · 03/07/2020 11:01

@wildthingsinthenight I just came back to report that my shower gels arrived from the Greek company I linked to.
Haven't used any yet, but I've sniffed them all and they're all divine. I got:

  • violet
  • verbena
  • jasmine
  • fig
All Korres except the fig, which is Klorane.

I got a broderie nightie from Hush. It's not that long (knee-length) but it's white and floaty and gorgeous.

TinkersRucksack · 03/07/2020 11:08

@IntermittentParps which website is that? Violet sounds lovely!

IntermittentParps · 03/07/2020 11:22

Tinkers, here you go: bestpharmacy.gr/en/

Ooh lovely IntermittentParps
They sound great

I haven't posted on this thread, (or the previous one), but I have had a quick read of them and have to say that I was thinking about it last night as I sat watching Poirot and drinking a small sherry Grin. It was heaven. I am 36, if it matters. I am going to see if anywhere in my town stocks rose and violet creams this weekend...

wildthingsinthenight · 03/07/2020 20:25

Welcome LadyPrigsbottom!
Flowers

KatherineParr4 · 03/07/2020 20:38

Greek creams are just the best. I stick up when on holiday in Greece. The quality of their soap, shower gel and body lotion, hand cream and sunscreen is far far better than anything in the UK. Olive oil is what makes the difference.

KatherineParr4 · 03/07/2020 20:38

Stock up

EasilyDelighted · 03/07/2020 20:49

I've been smiling at these thread titles and going, no, not me.

But I like the following:
Crochet
Gardening
A morning cuppa in my potting shed
Using a teapot and leaf tea
Baking (I have two Be-ro books)
Rosamund Pilcher books
Hanging washing on the line
Rose and violet creams
Bar soap

However I cannot bring myself to listen to Radio 2, that really would be a step too far.

SpeedofaSloth · 03/07/2020 21:20

I like Radio 4 better than Radio 2, especially on a Saturday morning.

EasilyDelighted · 03/07/2020 21:37

I prefer R4 too, but only the factual stuff , I find the comedies and quizzes toe-curling and am definitely not old enough for The Archers.

LadyPrigsbottom · 03/07/2020 21:44

I quite like The Archers, but not many of the other fictional stuff on R4. I also love the factual programs and comedy panel shows etc.

Thank you for the welcome wildthing Flowers.

Appuskidu · 03/07/2020 21:45

Radio 2 is just radio 1 from twenty years ago Grin

SpeedofaSloth · 03/07/2020 21:46

I love R4 comedies and panel shows. But not as much as the programme with Richard Coles (I think it's called Saturday Live?), that's my favourite.

EasilyDelighted · 03/07/2020 22:17

Radio 2 is just radio 1 from twenty years ago I know, DH listens to it. I'm sure when I was growing up it was for an older demographic though, my parents didn't listen to it, in fact they still don't in their 70s.

wildthingsinthenight · 03/07/2020 22:44

I like Radio 2 on a Saturday but love Radio 4 extra for the old comedy.
I am an Archers fan Wink

Bluesparkled · 04/07/2020 16:06

Can anyone recommend a source of suitably old lady tea towels? I’m thinking robins, botanical drawings, possibly kings and queens (my Grandma had those), that sort of thing. I wanted new rather than vintage or I will never use them in case they fall apart 😂

mogloveseggs · 04/07/2020 16:58

You might find something here @Bluesparkled
I'm an archers fan

OldLace · 04/07/2020 17:21

I 'went out' for the first time today since lockdown.
Most of the local (20miles away) town was still shut.
BUT... the Oxfam shop was open.
In I trotted.
I snapped up a set of linen placemats with hardanger embroidery.
A new (to me) novel (or 3) and a couple of bars of Divine chocolate.
Came home to a cup of Earl Grey and a dog to walk. Lovely!
:) :) :)

wildthingsinthenight · 04/07/2020 18:10

OldLace
Sounds like a lovely outing!
I am listening to a Miss Read audio book and having an early gin and tonic.
Cheers all Flowers

managedmis · 04/07/2020 18:26

Radio 4 is the new Radio 2, right?

don't ask what happened to radio 2,did it replace radio 1?

Bluesparkled · 04/07/2020 18:28

@ mogloveseggs thank you! These are lovely!

I'm reading this thread in between crocheting and watching Poirot. I'm also wearing a wafty ghost nightie and slippers. I am happier than I've ever been.
