Thank you so much for all your brilliant suggestions. I'm aware the last thread is running out, so I've added a new one, just in case we have any more suggestions from a bygone era, or we want to review any new purchases (I have loads on order at the moment!). Thanks to @kojolo for the thread title. Here's the link to the old one: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3944582-To-realise-I-like-old-lady-things

@bealola some lovely stationary would be a good treat. Maybe somewhere like Smythson?

BananasBananas · 01/07/2020 23:40

Garlic glad u like them - I've just placed my 2nd order already as I was so chuffed with my 1st 🤣😬
I think they will make lovely presents for the discerning old people in your life.
Ringtons man was most bemused when I told him he was in classics on MN 🤣

hippochoc · 02/07/2020 10:45

bananas thanks from me too! I received my soaps, and have just ordered some more, they are divine!

hippochoc · 02/07/2020 10:50

Infact I have taken up the suggestion of placing them in drawers before using, just spend 20 mins trying to remember where they all are.

wildthingsinthenight · 02/07/2020 12:10

I was really pleased with my Chateau Du Savon soaps too Bananas They smell amazing.
I've just taken delivery of a pot of Gentleman's Relish!!

BananasBananas · 02/07/2020 12:47

Its arrived!!!!!
I ordered the mystery box, some solid conditioner and a sensitive skin set for my DF birthday. looks like I might have gone slightly overboard here 😂
I've found a use for some beautiful shells too! So exciting opening it up 😍

I'm going to put the spares in my drawers to delicately scent the clothes. Doubtless I will be like a squirrel in winter later on once I need a fresh one, scrabbling round in my drawers trying to find them!!
I had my 1st solid soap shower yesterday. I'm loving that squeaky clean feeling Grin.
Next project is to crochet some lacy face clothes and some drawstring soap bags for when they get all small and slivery.

BananasBananas · 02/07/2020 13:17

@bealola how about a starter kit of good quality essential oils. Or just a few expensive ones?
Rose absolute is divine and can be very expensive - dilute it in a carrier oil and add to your bath to literally come out smelling like Rose's 😍
A high altitude Lavender
Perhaps a sultry powdery tuberose or champaca too?!?
A Bergamot (FCF) to brighten it all up and
Some Vetiver to make it last forever on your skin
Oshadhi UK do top quality oils.

Or

OldLace · 02/07/2020 13:35

Have just ordered some Chateau Du Savon too.
A mystery box and an exfoliating box with free soap dish.
I LOVE soap, esp in drawers (with tissue paper liners)

Bioprepper · 02/07/2020 14:08

what do you ladies put in your pomanders? Mine arrived from ebay today. pot porri? Do i go for lavender?

PeskyRooks · 02/07/2020 14:24

Bioprepper I put a cotton wool ball with a couple of drops of lavender oil in in mine. I find pot pourri doesn't keep it's smell very long.

Sairafina · 02/07/2020 14:31

Jiminy cricket, I have found my people!!

AiryFairyMum · 02/07/2020 16:15

Love those gorgeous soaps. Does anyone have a recommendation on which ones smell best please?

OP posts:
Bioprepper · 02/07/2020 16:36

thanks @PeskyRooks il give that a try. One of them is missing its stopper so that maybe a god option lol

BananasBananas · 02/07/2020 16:48

@AiryFairyMum the rose one is gorgeous (naturally!) And the argan oil smells lovely too.
The Mango one is surprisingly fruity!
The coconut milk one is as I expected
And the orange cinnamon (cannelle orange) is gorgeous! I didnt know what to expect from that but it is lovely!
Try the mystery box - it's so exciting!!

AnneShirleysNewDress · 02/07/2020 19:33

Thank you to the PP who recommended chateau du savon. Mine arrived today and they all smell gorgeous.

wildthingsinthenight · 02/07/2020 20:46

AiryFairyMum I have the rose soap on a rope which smells amazing plus a peach and a lotus flower bar soap. All lovely

Weetabixandcrumpets · 02/07/2020 22:39

I am finding this thread so soothing. Cancelling my meditation App and reading this instead.
Powell Craft nightdresses? Wow...actually, seriously sexy. Saw someone mention you could float around in one like a Victorian ghost.Grin I think my life has been transformed. Thank you x

GuyFawkesDay · 02/07/2020 22:57

I buy similar soaps from french soaps.

Love jasmine, mimosa and almond scents

shinynewapple2020 · 03/07/2020 00:56

@bluefoxmug I didn't think impulse body sprays were for old ladies - but given that I used them as a teenager and I am approaching old lady age, perhaps they are Grin

Bluesparkled · 03/07/2020 03:51

@FedUpAtHomeTroels Bronnley Lemon! How could I have forgotten? So happy to be reminded 😊

Onthebrink67 · 03/07/2020 07:34

wildthingsinthenight · 03/07/2020 08:18

Are the Doreen bras true to size would you say? I'm not sure whatvsuze to order as I'm midway through losing weight.
Also would someone mid posting the link again please? Thank you xx

@MotherofPearl

I love a Barbara Pym novel for a comfort read. I've read them all but sometimes re-read my favourites.
I love Barbara Pym novels and read them from a young age. I'm in my 60s now, and still have my dog eared collection. I used to go to bed of an afternoon at the weekend with a novel, radio 4, vast mug of tea and a ton of snacks. Bliss!

I remember when I was in my 30s finding a huge stack of Readers Digest books from the 1960s in a charity shop and bought the lot! I eventually passed them on to my DD. Now lost in her many house moves Sad.

Being the age I am lots of stuff on these threads is familiar to me!

NannyOgg66 · 03/07/2020 10:14

So glad there is another thread ! @borntobequiet you made me laugh out loud as this reminded me of my own dear (not so sweet ) grandmother who was from the East end of London and liked a good swear and a drink Grin
