With 'old lady' not being an offensive term, but rather referring to women with knowledge, refined taste and other positive qualities

Show off your pretty things and link to dresses, slips, twinsets, pearls, stockings, big knickers, cross your heart bras, prestige scents, retro style makeup, soap and everything else in between

knitting wasn't quite so successful...I remember her trying to show us how to knit gloves- she kept disappearing and coming back into class smelling of fags! Mine ended up with about 25 fingers!!

MotherofPearl · 17/07/2020 12:31

My Bronnley dusting powder has arrived! Grin

@dontcallmelen I really want a little sewing table like that. Yours is beautiful. I'll be trawling the second hand shops now.

Saturdayrabbit42 · 18/07/2020 08:22

Have found my people! Thank you so much for this thread! Tea dresses, pearls and triple milled soap all the way!!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 18/07/2020 08:31

I love cologne! Here’s where we can cross over with the French and top tips threads. When I went on holidays to Europe (sigh) I’d beeline for supermarkets where cologne was pennies for huge bottles. If I’m out for the day, I get a ziplock bag, fold up tissues and soak them in cologne for discreet dabbing.
I also love embroidery, especially the pre printed proper Irish linen. (As advertised in the back of people’s friend) Where do we stand on people’s Friend?

lilgreen · 18/07/2020 08:52

Ooh like the cologne soaked tissue idea..Wink

Greenpop21 · 18/07/2020 09:07

The 4711 cologne I’ve ordered used to do sachets of soaked tissue/wipes. I remember my DM having some in her handbag.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 18/07/2020 09:58

You can still get them in boots. Also, the 4711 body spray is lovely and the scent lasts longer than the cologne.

Greenpop21 · 18/07/2020 10:00

Good to know. They also do a roll-on stick.Smile

Greenpop21 · 18/07/2020 12:30

Ok I’m on a roll. Just been into Boots and spotted Yardley Freesia&Bergamot edt £14.99 for 120ml so just had to buy. Those are my favourite two scents and it smells delicious, even DH just asked what the nice smell was!

LaurieFairyCake · 18/07/2020 12:39

OP

This wonderful silk dress is on sale at the White Company if you're channelling Outlander Grin

I have dozens/maybe hundreds of antique items from every era from Tudor to the 1940's - book slides, boxes, pottery, clothes, capes

Here's one of my boxes - a tiny enamel Heroin box (Victorian)

I also got 3 for 2 on Bronnley soaps in my local pharmacy - triple milled loveliness

I remember those as well, happy sigh.
dontcallmelen · 18/07/2020 12:51

@poppy2021 do keep your eye out, I have another one upstairs as bedside table they don’t seem to be that rear so should be able to find one.
Ooh Laurie you must have so many treasures & the heroin box must be a err talking point🤣

LaurieFairyCake · 18/07/2020 13:04

It really is Grin

I keep tiny aspirin pills in it unmarked so visitors are never quite sure if they're Heroin..

LaurieFairyCake · 18/07/2020 13:33

In case anyone's looking for flowery blouses, skirts, dresses, trousers, even notebooks and silk purses I've just bought a whole load in the Anthropologie sale

Got some lovely notebooks for a fiver

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/07/2020 13:58

Love that heroin box so much! :)

thisenglishlife · 18/07/2020 17:23

You'll have to post about some of your other items too @LaurieFairyCake

I've got an allotment! Going to see it tomorrow and clear it out.

@thisenglishlife I loved back in time for tea, there have been a few programs haven't there? Back in time for Christmas etc. I will look out for the Jane Austen one.
@LaurieFairyCake the heroin box is brilliant! Grin the dress is beautiful very like the ones Claire(Outlander) wears in 40s. Anyone for kilts (for ladies) talking of Outlander ? I loved a kilt and opaue black tights or stockings in my younger days but feel a bit fat round the middle now for pleats. Was very tempted after watching the Crown series 2 seeing Claire Foy. However she is about a size 8 or 10 and I'm not !

Deathraystare · 21/07/2020 11:37

I sprayed myself with Yardley Lily of the valley body spray this morning!

Greenpop21 · 21/07/2020 12:12

I’m really starting to veer away from expensive perfume houses. I think the popularity of Jo Malone and similar-isolating individual scents of flowers is interesting to me. Jo Malone is v expensive but the likes of Yardley have been doing it for decades. There was some lovely flower edt in M&S yesterday but no testers unfortunately due to covid.

Tootreeticki · 21/07/2020 17:38

[quote Canklesforankles]Thought I’d offer a concrete big knicker suggestion for those contemplating going for comfort. I buy these from John Lewis/Waitrose. Go up a size. Lovely.

I kid myself they look a bit like gym wear in the black. I particularly like wearing them in winter with tights and a dress as it stops the tights rolling down under my spare tyre Grin

How do they stop the rolling down? Do you wear them on top of your tights?

Greenpop21 · 21/07/2020 19:07

OP I ordered the 4711 mini floral colognes after you mentioned them and they came today. The rose is lovely as is the original and the jasmine. The lilac is not for me. Only 8ml so nice to pop in my handbag. Thank you !

thisenglishlife · 22/07/2020 21:15

3 out of 4 isn't bad. They're very nice looking little bottles.
