With 'old lady' not being an offensive term, but rather referring to women with knowledge, refined taste and other positive qualities

Show off your pretty things and link to dresses, slips, twinsets, pearls, stockings, big knickers, cross your heart bras, prestige scents, retro style makeup, soap and everything else in between

this is unbeatable for price though - 400ml for £4.36 and they also do a lavender water and a proper eau de cologne as well

I would love one of those old fashioned perfume atomiser bottles that has the bulb thing on to squeeze the 'scent' out. Always scent- never perfume, said my Aunt Hilda.

MotherofPearl · 16/07/2020 15:37

Thanks for that tip @JaneJeffer. I see it is still available (on Amazon!) so I might buy some and give it a whirl.

Just be careful not to turn them blue @MotherofPearl Grin

Gatekeeper · 16/07/2020 16:11

oooh- that atomiser looks lovely- I can still remember the feel of the knitted cover of the squeezy bit on my Aunt's bottle. She had a huge old dressing table with a triple mirror and I used to adjust the side bits so I could watch myself pat my nose with her swansdown powder puff. She wore Soir De Paris scent by Bourjois

Thank you for the peach perfume tip, Thisenglishlife.
This was part of my CSE needlework portfolio back in 1979/80.

Oh my latedecember that is beautiful.

thisenglishlife · 16/07/2020 17:33

Beautiful needlework @latedecember1963 would you still be able to create something like that?

Gorgeous @latedecember1963 .

MotherofPearl · 16/07/2020 18:21

late, that is beautiful embroidery. There is a craft shop near me that (pre-Covid) was offering embroidery workshops some evenings. I hope they eventually reopen as I'd love to sign up. I feel like it would be so relaxing.

NannyOgg66 · 16/07/2020 18:23

@latedecember1963 really beautiful needlework. I do tapestry and cross stitch but haven't done embroidery. I've got a book, I keep meaning to learn.

NannyOgg66 · 16/07/2020 18:29

@dontcallmelen beautiful china and cabinet. Am very jealous, my mother replaced her floral dinner/tea set with some awful 1960s monochrome pattern, not my style at all and long gone now anyway. Just bought a vintage tea set on Ebay couple of months ago for afternoon tea for daughters birthday.

Yes this, same here local shop offering workshops always seems such a genteel thing to do, I’m always buying my dgds smocked & embroidered dresses as they are so pretty & timeless. Thank you @NannyOgg66 tis my pride & joy even though my family poke fun at it.
Gatekeeper · 16/07/2020 20:13

my word @latedecember1963- my pupils are dilating at that embroidery!! It is absolutely beautiful

Patsypie · 16/07/2020 20:30

M&S were peach mad in the early 90s!

latedecember1963 · 16/07/2020 20:45

Thank you for all your lovely comments. 🤗
I haven't done that type of embroidery for years and would need to do it in daylight now I think. I still enjoy cross stitching occasionally but I mainly do knitting and jigsaws to relax in the evening these days.

latedecember1963 · 16/07/2020 20:55

I learned different stitches in sewing classes at primary school. We all had a square of binka fabric, a chunky needle needle and embroidery thread and were taught a new stitch each week by Mrs. Kershaw.
This was in the days when teachers taught the 3Rs in the morning and in the afternoon did topic work.
We loved being in Mr. Ashworth's class because he taught us how to sing our times tables accompanied by him playing guitar and he read The Hobbit to us.

Gatekeeper · 16/07/2020 21:00

I did that at primary as well...binka and thick thread only my teacher was Mrs Smith...said my stitches were beautiful
