With 'old lady' not being an offensive term, but rather referring to women with knowledge, refined taste and other positive qualities

Show off your pretty things and link to dresses, slips, twinsets, pearls, stockings, big knickers, cross your heart bras, prestige scents, retro style makeup, soap and everything else in between

now I am a nana I'm doing somethings for my dgs that I used to love as a child, hiding callard & bowser toffees under my clean pinny in the kitchen drawer, buying pink wafer biscuits and french fancies for tea, lemon and barley water cordial and when its cold and wet and dark only a dinner with gravy will do! Smile

I'm not following her s&b regime for anything though, the only cream that touched her face was pond cold cream at night so she looked like a ghost, a bit of powder and pink lipstick during the day, she would touch up her powder during the day again bringing on the 'ghost look' and nail varnish was for 'racy women who do no housework' Grin I still miss her!

Penhaligon's Rose and its Bluebell (dh used to buy me for Christmas and birthday gifts every year) but they're too chemically for me to put neat on my skin now.
Perhaps you could mix the rose perfume with some rosewater in a travel bottle and use that instead?

Penhaligon's has a small but good sale on at the moment! Very pretty, dressing table worthy packaging too - I had to buy something (my order in photo). There's free delivery over £30. Also, if you select samples from the shopping menu, you can add any two samples for free to your order.

@MotherofPearl

This is the thread for me. I love pearls and have a beautiful string of graduated pearls I inherited from my GM. I wear them as often as possible. I love tweed skirts in winter too.

Now I'm off to read the first thread.

Waves back 👋 welcome

My Powell Craft nightie arrived today! Proper Victorian looking, billowy and pure white.

Also came with a fancy clothes peg with a soldier on, which my toddlers immediately stole.

Not to get competitive, but I am the proud owner of two Powell Craft nighties. I bought mine from a little shop in Tobermory, near to where we often go on holiday. There's a handmade soap shop just near to the nightie place. Grin

I wore one of the nighties for the first time in a while the other week. My 12 year old DD said, aghast, "What are you wearing? You are dressed like a mannequin in a National Trust property bedroom!"

I love old fashioned soaps - Bronnley lemon and lily of the valley by yardley
Perfume wise - miss Dior, most guerlain perfumes and Dior addict which reminds me of my Dad as he bought it for me first
I love pearls - yellow gold and antique jewellery
Wool coats, tweed, linen, pure wool (merino or cashmere for preference)
Just before lockdown I was thrilled to find some boxed Irish linen hand embroidered pillowcases in my local charity shop
I also collect Victorian glass and Art Deco pottery

I really wish that somebody would make those old fashioned cotton broderie nighties in black or grey or even navy, rather than white. I don't want to look like a fat old non-virginal version of Catherine Morland creeping around Northanger Abbey, but I love the fact that they are cotton and knee covering, with no bloody cartoon characters or cutesy messages on them.

MotherofPearl DH says it makes me look like a vicar.

My children just shouted "a ghost!!" And wanted me to chase them with it.

No one gives me any bloody respect.

Yes good idea thisenglish Though I think Pen. discontinued the pure rose perfume. (i've finished the last one I had). Ref. Penhaligon bottles, I have the full range of sizes decorating my dressing table. DD1 said I needed to Kondo it!!! It does need dusting too much. I have moved some to the spare bedroom.

I also have a range of kitchen storage jars on the old beam which sits at the base of the chimney that is above the cooker. (I aspire to an aga type range to go there) This house was a ruin till the late 60s70s and the 'restorers' didn't really do it sympathetically )

Thanks, Jace. In an ideal world, I'd want short sleeves. Will keep a look out.

JaceLancs are you the lady with the beautiful opal rings? I remember you from an engagement rings thread a few years back if you are.

Lovely! I have long worn antique and vintage jewellery, a lot of it from antique fairs when they were a thing. I was once put in my place by a then colleague, who said that she too used to wear antique jewellery, when it was fashionable. Ouch.
