TOAST

Now I never thought I'd say this, not until my mid 40's at least, but I feel like celebrating the wonders of TOAST! I'm not sure I'm game for the wintry stuff but their summer dresses are just perfect. For years I've longed for the undone, easy linen look but usually end up looking like a sack of potatoes... not this summer my friends!

My dad earlier said I looked "outrageously well sorted" in my new orange linen number - I think he meant well put together, and I've just got the navy on sale on JL. Yipppeeeee!

No 2 still is the one for me, but that may be because in my student days I had a pink cotton padded jacket which I adored, and the second one reminds me of it.

Alsohuman · 13/06/2020 13:16

I still like 2 the best.

Ellapaella · 13/06/2020 13:17

@Railingsohno I've been lurking on this thread but not posted yet. I only own a couple of things from Toast - both are jumpers bought in the sale.
I love both those jackets but the first one has the edge imo. It looks absolutely lovely on you.

Yorkshirelass04 · 13/06/2020 13:34

I like number 1 kantha jacket. It has black in it, so wearing with black trousers or top or shoes will pull together the look.

Railingsohno · 13/06/2020 13:42

Thank you! That’s 2 each Grin

AmethystMoonShine · 13/06/2020 13:57

Argh! Torn..... I think 2 just about is my favourite for its colours but prefer the symmetry of the front of 1.....
Gosh the dangers of ordering two to choose from! Grin

Railingsohno · 13/06/2020 13:58

I’m erring to the first one as the second one has quite a lot of beige which is not a good colour on me. The first one has clearer colours and the green/olive which I’ve started to wear quite a lot of. I think it will work better all year round. Still love the second one though. Wish I could have both but not at £200 each! 🙈

Countmeout · 13/06/2020 14:24

Well they are both lovely, I hope you don’t mind me saying but will you actually wear it that way out? I never wear mine on the other side , but I’m a bit weird and the seams would distress me (distress is not the right word obviously it takes more than that to distress me proper but ykwim hopefully) . I bought mine for the appearance the right way round which is more neutral and easier to match to something.

Re the Lydia dress I do wear something under it 95% of the time, usual a Breton of some sort.

Venusflytart · 13/06/2020 14:28

Railingsohno sorry for late response, the papaya boiler suit reminds me of one I bought in the 90s in a second hand shop that I wore with army booths, tank girls style. So now do the same, except wear a black best top underneath as well with a bit of lace.

Railingsohno · 13/06/2020 15:11

@Countmeout I actually like the pattern the best. I love pattern 💗. The seams don’t bother me!

Railingsohno · 13/06/2020 15:13

I like the sound of that, gives it a bit of an edge. Does it come up big or small?

I’ve not got into boiler suits as they feel a bit of a faff, going to the loo - I’m all about comfort Grin

paintedwolf · 13/06/2020 15:28

Deffo jacket number 1. Interesting that it is the 'reds' colourway but actually has a lot of black in it...

Whatthefoxgoingon · 13/06/2020 17:21

Number 1 for me too!

Almahart · 13/06/2020 17:44

Jacket 1 for me

jelabi · 13/06/2020 20:40

Kantha jackets have gone up in price to £215 on toast website now.

Railingsohno · 13/06/2020 23:14

@jelabi I noticed that! Luckily I got in before that. 😅

Thanks everyone for your advice. I’ve decided to go for the first one - it works better both with my colouring and the clothes in my wardrobe (cream/green/navy/black)

StarShapedWindow · 14/06/2020 07:23

Mizu- what a bargain! Lucky you!

Ilovecherries - funnily enough I eBayed two of the denim pinafores that you love - also thanks to Marie Kondo, I got cross with them because the buttons were always falling off, I should have been imaginative like Lanternhill and changed the buttons, btw the smoked mother of pearl sounds beautiful!

Alsohuman - I have another dress called a Noel which is like the Lydia but with 3/4 length sleeves - they have a lovely scoop neck.
Every purchase feels essential Yorkshirelass and I always envisage how useful the item will be and then I worry it’ll go out of stock 😂.

I love reading the reviews too - they’re so detailed. I remember the men’s range, it was brilliant. Proper fisherman’s jumpers and really lovely felt/cord trousers and jeans. I wish it was still there now my DH is of an age where he’d wear that stuff - way back then he was too ‘trendy’ to enjoy a good fisherman’s jumper.

AmethystMoonShine · 14/06/2020 07:55

John Lewis has just reduced Toast again but it’s selling fast. I hesitated and missed the last 10 in a dress I fancied Angry

Moominmammaatsea · 14/06/2020 08:49

Just to echo...Toast is now at 70 per cent off at John Lewis!

Alsohuman · 14/06/2020 09:25

Anyone else think JL has decided not to stock Toast any more?

mizu · 14/06/2020 09:32

Just looked on JL website for TOAST bargains (too late) and they have been selling this dress for £40 - been waiting for it to go in the sale for ages but on the TOAST website it's still full price at £150!

Countmeout · 14/06/2020 09:37

Yes nothing left I wanted. Wonder if returns will pop up. Annoyingly a lot of it will likely appear on eBay at almost non sale prices.

fizzpopbang123 · 14/06/2020 09:52

Margaret Howell interview in the The Guardian today, may be of interest, particularly @Floisme :)

Alsohuman · 14/06/2020 09:58

Yes I’m sure the eBay profiteers have been all over it. I wanted the blue workwear jacket but I was too late. 😢

Railingsohno · 14/06/2020 10:21

I managed to get the Ikat skirt in a 10 but I’m more of a 8. I had loads in my basket but it all disappeared! I got a really nice Paul Smith jumper so I’m happy.
