TOAST

Now I never thought I'd say this, not until my mid 40's at least, but I feel like celebrating the wonders of TOAST! I'm not sure I'm game for the wintry stuff but their summer dresses are just perfect. For years I've longed for the undone, easy linen look but usually end up looking like a sack of potatoes... not this summer my friends!

My dad earlier said I looked "outrageously well sorted" in my new orange linen number - I think he meant well put together, and I've just got the navy on sale on JL. Yipppeeeee!

That’s come out lovely, zinnia. Will be very versatile in that colour.

LanternHill · 07/06/2020 14:25

A lovely result zinnia!Smile
The other day I dyed an old faded Toast denim utility jacket using navy blue dylon. It came out really well and I'm planning to replace the white corozo buttons, which I always thought were a bit incongruous anyway.
There is a residual undyed line of white stitching near the hem- I'll steal your Sharpie idea!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 07/06/2020 14:40

A new lease of life @Zinnia fab!

Zinnia · 07/06/2020 14:42

Thanks all! Now we just need the summer to come back...

@LanternHill the Sharpie thing works pretty well but can't guarantee how wash-proof it will prove to be. Glad your jacket came out well too. Dyeing old clothes has become a bit of a lockdown hobby of mine! Beige Uniqlo top has become a much more wearable (for me) khaki, Cos black culottes now emerald green. New clothes thrill without the guilt expense!

SirVixofVixHall · 07/06/2020 14:50

Zinnia that jumpsuit looks beautiful in the deep blue.
I love dyeing things, but my results are (literally) patchy. Best success was a horrible 80s striped sofa cover, on a very nice sofa, dyed navy very well.

simplificate · 07/06/2020 15:10

That's brilliant, @zinnia did you need a special type of dye to lighten the black Cos culottes?

You lot have reawakened the Toast hunger in me! Anyone tried letting down hems on their too short items? Does it leave a visible 'band' in the fabric?

Alsohuman · 07/06/2020 15:13

Great result Zinnia. What dye did you use? I have a couple of pairs of Uniqlo trousers that used to be black but are now grey, they need restoring to their original colour.

ilovecherries · 07/06/2020 15:44

I bought four toast items from JL on Friday. One has been dispatched by DPD, one by Hermes, and two (in separate parcels), by RM. so what’s that about then? How can I subtlety shop while the house is full of people if they insist on delivering it all separately?

Yorkshirelass04 · 07/06/2020 16:31

@ilovecherries I know!! No parcel stashing for you!

Countmeout · 07/06/2020 16:44

Oh that’s annoying @ilovecherries, my John Lewis stuff came in 2 parcels by RM and DPD too.
Thanks for the link to the kin trousers btw, I didn’t buy them but stumbled over Kin wide legged jeans while looking at them and have sent for them.

ilovecherries · 07/06/2020 16:55

I love the kin jeans, count. I have a pair of the silver lakes and a pair of white barrel leg. So comfy, don’t give me (much of!) a muffin top and seem really robust.

MaudesMum · 07/06/2020 19:29

Just adding to the Toast love. In normal times I live near their sale shop in Shepton Mallet which is great for last season stock and one-offs. Missing it a lot, but just bought this www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+sale+tops+and+tees/c7nce/ticking+stripe+long+shirt.htm?clr=C7NCE_GreyBlueWhite_swc in the sales - I've put on a bit of weight recently and wanted something large to cheer me up until I shift it. Its gorgeous - really well cut and I get the feeling it will last for ages.

slipperyeel · 07/06/2020 20:02

I’ve ordered that shirt too @maudesmum

Zinnia · 07/06/2020 23:47

@Alsohuman I tend to use Dylon machine dye - as long as you make sure there's enough dye for the weight of fabric they work really well. Have used the wash & dye version on faded black clothes before with good results.

@simplificate I used Dylon "pre-dye" on the culottes, it's basically colour-stripper - very good on most colours but not on indigo or bright green, so it took out every colour in the black except green (there was lots of red-brown and purple water swirling around the machine). It actually left them very close to the colour I wanted, but a bit faded, so brightened them up with another dye (iDye, good colour range but a bit messier than Dylon) and got the look I wanted.

As it happens I had already let the hems down on the same trousers and there is still a faint line even after dyeing, but they were old - if you do it with something new it's much less obvious. Depends on the fabric too, corduroy/ velvet don't work so well because of the nap. I get my local alterations place to let hems down a lot!

dustyfloordrobe · 08/06/2020 10:48

My Toast purchases arrived. I am IN LOVE.

The mustard Fair Isle is so, so flattering. It's cut shorter than I would usually wear but it sits perfectly and the extra-long rib makes my waist look really small Grin. The colours are beautiful.

I also bought the cotton shirt with the small red check and it looks fab, light and swingy and perfect for summer. I was a bit worried about the puff shoulders as they often not good on me but actually they give an interesting shape without being too cutesy. Will look great with rolled-up jeans and sandals when the sun comes out again.

I am sooooo pleased with both of them.

Zinnia - the jumpsuit looks fabulous!

AmethystMoonShine · 08/06/2020 11:10

Love the sound of that jumper @dustyfloordrobe Smile

Railingsohno · 08/06/2020 12:29

@dustyfloordrobe the jumper sounds lovely. Shame it’s oos now. Is this the shirt?

www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+shirts/c7ndg/light+cotton+check+shirt.htm?clr=C7NDG_RedEcru_sw

dustyfloordrobe · 08/06/2020 12:54

That's the one railing. it is very very lightweight but beautifully cut. The back is very pretty with the gathering at the yoke. Not my usual kind of thing really but I think it will be a go-to this summer.

Definitely wouldn't have paid £135 for it though!

houseforanartlover · 08/06/2020 14:41

@dustyfloordrobe I bought that mustard Fair Isle too, wore it outdoors yesterday (was chilly up in here in Scotland!) and felt fabulous, so chuffed! it was like the jumper I had been waiting for all my life! Now I want more in that style but other colours!!

Railingsohno · 08/06/2020 16:08

Oh I am coveting that jumper! Let me know if you see any in small anywhere!

Railingsohno · 09/06/2020 09:49

@dustyfloordrobe is the jumper itchy at all? I’m a bit of a sensitive flower that way Grin

dustyfloordrobe · 09/06/2020 10:42

Sensitive flowers might find a t-shirt is needed underneath Smile. I don't find it itchy at all but it is pure wool which does tend to be a bit rougher.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/06/2020 11:06

Someone was asking upthread about the Grace skirt in the olive check - I bought it earlier this week and I love it! So flattering. I'm 5'2" and it's quite long on me, but it makes my waist look tiny and the pockets are awesome.

AmethystMoonShine · 09/06/2020 11:16

Can anyone remember if Toast usually do a further reduction stage in their sales? I think they do but could easily be thinking of another brand!

Floisme · 09/06/2020 11:20

Yes they do Amethyst. Quite a lot of this sale is from previous seasons. None the current stock I've been eyeing up has been reduced yet.
