M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Writersblock2 · 21/09/2019 15:53

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

Oops - used this morning on dry face with dry cotton pads to remove. Need to read the instructions first - face feels fine though! Grin

TheNavigator · 04/12/2019 10:26

I urge everyone to swap their face wipes and cotton wool for a flannel - so much better for the environment. Damp flannel, use, then rinse and dry out for another use. Put through washing machine with another wash when necessary. Our oceans are clogged with one use crap.

PrincessWatermelon · 04/12/2019 10:44

Thanks for the tips on using a cleanser. Just to clarify. Is it best to use on dry skin and then wipe off with damp cloth or wet face first and then apply?

Has anyone got the Formula 12 day beauty box? I've opened mine but don't want to do spoilers, but it's relevant to talk about it!!!

OnTheFirstDayOfChristmas · 04/12/2019 11:11

I've got the 12 days formula beauty box, opening mine from the 25th.
Looking forward to trying today's cleanser. I always use rinse off cleansers when I'm in the shower and washing my hair.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/12/2019 11:16

I use a face flannel.

Facial wipes are awful for your skin. They wipe on cheap oil that blocks pores.

A clean flannel with with warm water is so much better for your skin and the environment.

PartTimePunk · 04/12/2019 11:29

Ok just tried it using a flannel and warm running water. My skin feels very soft now. It's a nice gentle cleanser but I found the rose scent to be very strong. I'll use it up, but can't imagine buying it again.

PrincessWatermelon · 04/12/2019 11:52

I'm looking forward to trying it now!

@OnTheFirstDayOfChristmas I'll keep schtum!

slalomsuki · 04/12/2019 11:56

Just to join in here as I too am opening the advent calendar.

Like the Hair product on day 1 and it was timely as I can't stand very well at the moment in the shower so it was useful to just shampoo and put it in after I had stepped out.
Mascara was OK and I've put it in my handbag as a take to work one
Lip and eye cream was an odd combination which I didn't really like on either so gave it to teenage DD who agreed it was OK as an eye cream but not for lips
Cleanser today is good and I agree use it with a face cloth to get a better finish. It's not my usual sort of thing but I will use it and reassess once it's nearly finished.
Roll on the other days.

LEELULUMPKIN · 04/12/2019 12:13

I can't imagine using wipes on my face as I have always used a flannel. I wouldn't feel clean without it!

As you say, much better for the environment too!

Beadstar · 04/12/2019 12:23

PrincessWatermelon, the back of the tube says to use it on a damp face.

OnTheFirstDayOfChristmas · 04/12/2019 12:30

@PrincessWatermelon I dint mind if you talk about it. Its not as if the brands will be a surprise!

OnTheFirstDayOfChristmas · 04/12/2019 12:30

*don't

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/12/2019 12:44

I will be using my cleanser tonight. I won't be filling a basin though I'll just splash my face with water, massage in the cleanser and then rinse off using a soft facecloth in hand-hot water. This is what I do with all these sorts of cleansers and works well for me!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/12/2019 12:46

Oh I seem to have missed a load of posts all about facecloths and warm water!! Blush Ok, so I'm echoing everyone else... but also glad that I appear to be doing it right Grin

SomethingAboutNothing · 04/12/2019 13:15

Hurrah I found the thread! Enjoying the calendar so far, really like the mascara and found the hair stuff good despite being hesitant at first. Eye lip cream I'll give it a go but it's not really my thing, and the cleanser seems ok!

ReeRi · 04/12/2019 13:32

If not a facecloth you’re could use a muslin cloth or a make up eraser type cloth that is supposed to remove make up with just water but I suppose could be used with cleanser too 💦

I am enjoying the calendar so far

PrincessWatermelon · 04/12/2019 14:20

Well since I've not been told NOT to do spoilers, I have just acquired a muslin cloth specifically for cleanser removal. 😉 So I'll give it a go tonight. Wondering how mucky it'll get trying to shift all my make up though!!

Butterymuffin · 04/12/2019 14:34

Home and Bargain has muslin cloths for 69p near me. For cleansers like this I use a Ramer facial sponge that I got in another subscription box to just wipe it off using warm/hot water, no basin filling required. You can also get those easily.

Beadstar · 04/12/2019 14:53

Ah, I don’t wear foundation or anything which is why water alone is fine for me for most cleansers. I have loads of muslins and flannels from the days of using balms/ doing the CH routine but only use them for getting thick products off now.

motherofdoodles · 04/12/2019 17:11

Stupid question but is the lip eye cream for around the lips? I thought it was for the fine lines around lip and eye but perhaps have it totally wrong?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

circleorsquare · 04/12/2019 17:26

@motherofdoodles that's what I thought

I'm being good and not using the cleanser until my one runs out. I'm at the cutting the top off and scooping out stage so won't be long!

Butterymuffin · 04/12/2019 18:03

The cleanser looks good. Always happy to have nice cleansers - it's something that will definitely get used. I like rose fragrances too.

TheNavigator · 04/12/2019 18:39

The cleanser is lovely and effective. There is quite a strong rose smell, for whoever asked. But I love the smell of roses so it is a win for me.

Batshittery · 04/12/2019 19:20

Hmm. I'm not keen on the smell of roses but I will try the cleanser tomorrow I think. I've been pleased with the items so far Smile

SunshineCake · 04/12/2019 20:47

Just put the Aveda hair stuff on. Will there be room for dh in bed when my hair is all lovely and bouncy?!Grin.
