Beauty Advent Calendars 2019

Writersblock2 · 31/08/2019 06:33

It’s almost that time again! Anyone have their eye on anything?

There is a good overview here: www.marieclaire.co.uk/beauty/beauty-advent-calendars-2019-39069

I’m waiting on the M&S one as I loved it so much last year (no sign of it so far but I suspect it will be similar to 2018 for release date, so around start of November). I also like the look of the Look Fantastic and Nuxe but three may be pushing it. Grin

If money was no object I’d be on the Jo Malone and Lush calendars.

*Eatsleep I'm doing that...I'm making up gift boxes for a few friends with a few of the pieces I don't think I will use.•

My friend does this, it’s a terrible idea.
She gets a decent present from me and I hate getting her cast offs.

FadingStar · 06/11/2019 17:39

Whoops they're presents for people who don't buy me anything. People like the woman I sit beside at the chapel each Sunday. My office colleague who was bullied this year.

I think it is a GOOD idea and I am going to do it to spread Christmas cheer. I only have one close friend who I love and who I exchange presents with - she will be getting something special I shall buy, don't worry.

PrincessWatermelon · 06/11/2019 19:18

It's arrived!!!!

eatsleepmoverepeat · 06/11/2019 20:32

@Whoops75 it can be a terrible idea I agree!

Mine are very specifically tailored to the three people I make them for and all 3 have asked me to do them again this year so I can’t be getting it that wrong. You need to know your audience very well to get it right.

notangelinajolie · 07/11/2019 03:40

I've just ordered a Liberty one for DD1
And now DD2 and DD3 will get jealous Halloween Confused

I've faffed about long enough.
Cult - sold out in a nano second.
Then Glossybox went.
And then Lookfantastic.

So Liberty it is. She better love me forever for this …
there are times when I wish I had boys

Caggie09 · 07/11/2019 07:25

I really wanted the cult beauty GWP, missed out :( SpaceNk one doesnt excite me as much and it £250 spend. Bought my advent calendar a while ago too, wish i held outSad

FadingStar · 07/11/2019 07:29

Jolie what an incredible gift!! You're so kind! Yes Caggie it would be pretty hard to get up to £250 without the calendar I think, unless you know lots of people who would like beauty gifts at Christmas. I wish my DH was into grooming so I could get some of these GWPs but a £1 shower gel is as far as it gets for him.

horokania · 07/11/2019 10:53

I can’t decide on whether to buy at a sensible price point and go for M&S or ASOS’ offerings or whether to splash out and get the Space NK one - there is a great GWP on right now (hand hold please to justify the pricier option)

FadingStar · 07/11/2019 11:29

Horokania I would go for Space NK...the calendar is worth almost £500 and the GWP is around £400 or so. The products would last all year. ALTHOUGH..the M&S one looks cracking this year. Decisions, decisions 😭😭😭

LEELULUMPKIN · 07/11/2019 12:42

Also Horokania, if you are on Topcashback (it's free) and are a new purchaser with Space NK they have got 7.07% cashback at the mo as an added incentive! :)

Housewife2010 · 07/11/2019 13:09

Last year I bought the Space NK calendar and got the free crackers. I decided that as it's my birthday month I could add the free birthday gift ( I'm nowhere near a Space NK to pick one up) and I got double NDulge points due to my birthday too. And I went through Too Cashback. In retrospect it was full of so many tiny samples that for me it wasn't worth it. I've had Liberty for the last few years and there are lots of good sizes in there. I'm having a year off Liberty ( and getting a handbag for my birthday instead).

notangelinajolie · 07/11/2019 15:42

@FadingStar
Jolie what an incredible gift!!
To be fair it's her birthday soon so it's birthday & Christmas in one. She's had a tough year and I think she deserves a bit of pampering.

I would like to buy my other 2 DD's a calendar but won't be spending quite so much. I quite like the JL one but I think it's a bit expensive for what's in it. So I might buy them one of those if the price goes down. Amazon/ASOS ones look good too. As does the Elle one.

Gutted I missed the Glossybox and LookFantastic ones, they would have been perfect for them.

@Caggie09
I wanted the Cult one too Sad

FadingStar · 07/11/2019 16:32

I had the Elle one last year and loved it. Such a great mix of products.

UpToonGirl · 07/11/2019 16:58

Sigh...I really wasn't going to get a calendar this year but I cracked and got the SpaceNK one, got a few other bits to push it up to the limit for the freebies. The extras were things I would have been buying soonish anyway.

The freebie box is ok, small samples compared to the calendar but I'm telling myself to count the calendar and freebies as one spend and the other bits I was going to spend that money anyway.

I do think the advent calendars have become way too expensive and I don't feel there is the same buzz around them as previous years as the heft prices take the shine off them. I really will try not to get one next year!

eatsleepmoverepeat · 07/11/2019 16:59

My Space NK one has been stuck at the regional mail processing centre since yesterday morning. Ordered next day delivery on Tuesday. I’m worried it’s gone missing

FadingStar · 07/11/2019 17:24

Aw Eatsleep that sucks. That happened with me with some gifts from Amazon last week. Had to get a refund in the end.

UpToonGirl · 07/11/2019 18:27

I also justified getting the spaceNK calendar as with the freebies you get a £25 voucher so really the calendar is £170 as I would have spent the £25 anyway...does that make sense?! Probably not but that's what I'm telling myself!

If anyone is looking at it the voucher only lasts up to Christmas.

Oh, and I'm going to give the Monica v bracelet from the freebies to my mum for xmas so that's saved some money.

banskuwansku · 07/11/2019 19:25

For me it was easy choice to get M&S calendar. I had chosen my birthday gift already but thought that calendar would be a nice addition. I am sure dh would not have bought me more expensive calendar. I could of course buy it myself but I rather buy presents for dc instead.

PrincessWatermelon · 07/11/2019 20:56

I've just opened my M&S one. It's so pretty!!!

TattiePants · 07/11/2019 21:39

I've caved in and ordered the ASOS calendar instead of waiting for Black Friday. I signed DH up as a new customer so got 10% plus 8% Topcashback so it works out at £58.

eatsleepmoverepeat · 08/11/2019 10:40

Heads up to anyone considering the Space NK that the party favours offer apparently finishes on Monday

Gotthetshirt23 · 08/11/2019 16:13

Re last years M&S does anyone have the black tulip they would like to swap ?

Sammi38 · 09/11/2019 17:22

@Housewife2010 it arrived today, I also got fawn, which I’m happy with as I thought the other colours looked a bit pale.

It’s such a lovely set, the illamasqua palette is stunning.

Housewife2010 · 09/11/2019 18:56

Sammi38
I'm glad you like it. I've been happy with all the products and I've been experimenting with the palette the last few days.

MiaN · 10/11/2019 06:50

I end up getting the space NK too. I had 20 voucher, the gwp have 25 gift card and I earned points to buy few things I want if the black Friday offer appeals. The 25 gift card is my favourite thing from the GWP I hate to admit, but maybe I will change my mind while trying the products

I am tempted with John Lewis and Elle if the have good offer on black Friday.
