Beauty Advent Calendars 2019

It’s almost that time again! Anyone have their eye on anything?

There is a good overview here: www.marieclaire.co.uk/beauty/beauty-advent-calendars-2019-39069

I’m waiting on the M&S one as I loved it so much last year (no sign of it so far but I suspect it will be similar to 2018 for release date, so around start of November). I also like the look of the Look Fantastic and Nuxe but three may be pushing it. Grin

If money was no object I’d be on the Jo Malone and Lush calendars.

Paul that sounds terrible. I wonder if the JoLoves calendar would be any better? For the price Jo Malone should have been a lot better.

lololove · 28/09/2019 10:11

Slightly off topic but I've just read about another scandal from last year (heard nothing of it when it was relevant haha) about YouTuber Eltoria and her selling her own advent calendar but making it up of pieces that she'd received for pr that were open and used/dirty/unsealed. She then got angry and defensive and her fiance was threatening people who posted against her or complained. Did anyone get one?

I have bought myself a bomb cosmetic gift box before for Christmas. It was nice and good for the price but I wasn't overly impressed. I wanted bubbles and they're sls free if I recall and don't bubble at all.

I did have a snowman one who's buttons didn't dissolve so floated found the bath.... Looked like I'd had an accident in the bath Grin

@lololove the Eltoria thing was worse than Zoella, very funny at the time. She does lots of unboxing and brought her own 12 day out. Certain items were the same for everyone then there were surprises. Basically was clear from various videos she reused pr or advent items she already unboxed. She slagged off body shop musk cream and anyother utuber got that in her own advent (soontobewilson). Her boyfriend wrote some nasty shit to her fans on insta and u tube and they started getting u tube involved in taking stuff down.

Butterymuffin · 28/09/2019 19:19

I read about the Eltoria scam last year, and as a result I don't watch her videos. Sadly it doesn't seem to have done long term damage, as she is still getting calendars now via PR and doing unboxings. She's just done one of the Latest in Beauty advent calendar and according to comments on another Youtuber's channel, reviewers were asked to show the products in random order to keep an element of surprise for those buying it. Eltoria however has just opened hers in date order in spite of being asked not to. She seems very arrogant.

lololove · 28/09/2019 20:58

aye, I hadn't heard until this morning and then I did a bit of being nosy and watched a few vids/read a few articles. What a horrible thing to do! Especially if anyone had had a reaction to the products and gone back to the people who made them when it wouldn't be their fault!

Her "apology" video was clearly her pretending to be nice and patronising people whilst quite visibly furious that they were daring to question her! And one of the videos showed a screenprint from her boyfriend threatening to break the legs of a teenage girl! Literally 'I know where you live because I've got access to the delivery info!' type threat.

And it's done her no harm...! It's unbelievable! The Zoella stuff is lingering around and yet Poundland Zoella has gotten away scott free for much much worse!

I have found a bit of a deal for anyone who wants to get an advent calendar for a little girl. The contents aren't up to much but if your little one wants to be like mummy with her own this one has an £8 voucher discount code on it that makes it down to £3.69. Make sure the discount is definitely applied before going through checkout otherwise it's £11.69! - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07W17MNZT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

I've just preordered the rituals one off QVC. It's slighter cheaper there than on the rituals website. I've had it the past two years and it's not bad at all for the price.

PrincessWatermelon · 28/09/2019 22:21

I had a look just now about the M&S one. I had it last year and loved it. Different products that I'd never try otherwise. It's not out til 31st Oct but it ends up being cheaper this year :£40 with a £25 spend instead of £35 with a £35 spend, if I recall. Happy days!! Can't wait.

Would love to be able to do the Elemis one or the Liberty, but simply can't justify the money.

Piccalino3 · 29/09/2019 08:58

I wasn't going to go for any, having had Liberty and Space NK the previous years. I just got fed up with lots of little trial sizes that seem to be languishing in my box of beauty supplies. However, finally, the Net-a-Porter one looks amazing. Lots of full sizes and brands I haven't tried and loads of skin care so I'm going for that. I'm excited again!

Looking4wards · 29/09/2019 10:21

I'm v late to the beauty advent calendars this year.
I had LookFantastic last year. It was fine but I wasn't that impressed.

I've bought the £49 L'occitane one this year because I've just discovered how much I love their products. But I'm seriously considering getting another one that's multi-brand.
Which one is best for having full sized items? I too hate all the small sample sized items they put in.

Moomin8 · 30/09/2019 10:01

I'm thinking of getting the Glossybox calendar - it looks great for the money.

Agree about Eltoria - she really showed herself up in her true colours last year, putting second hand promotional items in her own calendars and getting people to pay £50 for them! Then when people complained, she put up a video of herself looking absolutely livid and sidestepping complaints. What an unpleasant woman she is. I don't watch her videos any more...

problembottom · 30/09/2019 15:28

Just ordered the Look Fantastic calendar. Had it two years ago and it introduced me to two products I use every day - Korres’ Wild Rose Sleeping Facial and Balance Me’s Micellar Water. I used all but about three products so little wastage. Not seen this year’s contents as the surprise element is a big part of the appeal for me.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 01/10/2019 07:14

Looking4wards- rituals may float your boat

Writersblock2 · 01/10/2019 07:30

Next calendar is out, lovelies!

Pointless, wasteful consumerism. I can’t believe people still consider buying crap like this. Has nothing that Greta Thunberg has has meant anything to you? And why do grownups feel the need to have advent calendars ffs?

Grow up.

LilaGrace · 01/10/2019 07:51

Jo Malone calendar has been ordered- I'm so excited!

ShirleyB50 · 01/10/2019 08:04

oooof

that hurt

Writersblock2 · 01/10/2019 08:45

Oh bless. I think pp needs a good relaxing bubble bath with a sheet mask.

I expect user stinks to high heaven and never uses so much as a mascara 😂 what a virtuous martyr she / he is. Lol.

Moomin8 · 01/10/2019 09:44

The standout in LF is 30mg of Pro-Coll marine cream.

I was a little underwhelmed with the Liberty calendar- it doesn't have enough make up in imo. Last year I loved the Lelabo scent though! The votary moisturiser was also fab. This year it's a facial oil and I don't like oils.

I haven't seen one that I love yet. I'm wondering about the Cult beauty one.

Trewser · 01/10/2019 09:49

I have bought the holland and barratt one for dd. It has a really nice range of lovely stuff and its 35 so not too bad.

G5000 · 01/10/2019 09:52

I'm sure you killed a few trees by posting this comment, user

Housewife2010 · 01/10/2019 12:09

Latest in Beauty have just released the Grazia Advent Calendar. Also the first page of the Boots Christmas catalogue shows their Glamour beauty advent calendar , but there aren't many details.

littlepooch · 01/10/2019 14:56

I still can't decide!!

I know they are going to start selling out and I'll regret it.

I'm most tempted by space nk at the moment but something is stopping me hit buy.

Writersblock2 · 01/10/2019 16:39

@littlepooch - I’m hoping it will go on sale but I doubt it. Boo!
