Thanks all - never - that is genius... I could move the beads up the string - tie a knot and cut off the rest! Clever! I also think you're right in that it will settle with wear and with washing some of the starchiness will come out. I think I'll keep and see how it works. I agree with soy that the neutral colour with the embroidery is very nice. But as always, huff carries it off much better than me! 
The scarves would definitely work as sarongs/ shawls too - they are about 2m x 1m, so easily wide enough - the turquoise one is v thin cotton, and the other is the same material as the kimonos - modal/ viscose.
huff - all of yours look lovely! The green one especially -and the print of the shorter one looks really pretty. I don't think they look too wide at all. I know what you mean about the length though. Mine sort of falls back and does just cover my bum - I'm 5'6 too - but i think I have a high bum (short body?)
