On every thread where someone posts a picture of sandals to ask for advice, theres always a chorus of 'hideous', 'granny', 'fugly' etc. So please share some photos of sandals that you think are nice, stylish, chic, non-stomach-churning, whatever. Bear in mind that many of us need sandals to be comfortable and suitable for lots of walking. I promise no snarky comments!

I have these in navy, so comfortable and I can walk all day in them www.pavers.co.uk/collections/womens-sandals/products/slingback-wedge-seray25005-309-445?variant=21513381085269

I'm torn between these. Love the toe post ones but will they flip of my feet?

Fitflops upset one of my arches and it was a year before it was better.

Shoes make me so sad now. I can't wear heels at all. I need mega squishiness.

It should be the law that all footwear should have croc level squishiness.

wafflyversatile · 16/04/2019 21:24

Oblomov

Maybe try earth spirit. I haven't tried their sandals but I have their walking boots. I normally have to go 1.5 sizes up but with them just .5 of a size.

Kittywampus · 16/04/2019 21:53

@MotherForkinShirtBalls if you are a size 4 or 6 then tk maxx have those blowfish sandals in a different colour, at a good price www.tkmaxx.com/women/shoes/sandals/silver-granola-flat-sandals/p/25019455

StCharlotte · 16/04/2019 22:15

I've had maybe half a dozen pairs of Birkenstock Mayaris. Uber comfy (I was on my feet all day in my last job) and about as elegant as Birkenstocks get. Current ones, which I've had about four years, are hot pink with black glittery trim. I've also had floral ones. There's a sister company Papillio I think, which does the same sandal under a different name (which of course i can't remember) in the prettier colours and patterns. But then I've got at least a dozen pairs of other sandals as I like to switch them around a lot Blush

BlackPrism · 16/04/2019 22:55

@animaginativeusername sorry but I think they're horrendous. Rather geriatric...

buckeejit · 16/04/2019 23:53

I've been living in fitflops for years. Am going to get some birkenstocks again as used to love them but wore an old pair to a spa day recently & even though I did very little walking in them, my feet were so sore next day!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 17/04/2019 00:11

Thank you Kittywampus! I am a 4 or 6 and now own lovely silvery sandals Smile

thenightsky · 17/04/2019 00:22

2 quid in tesco sale the other week... No painful toe post and fab for narrow footers like me.

Oblomov19 · 17/04/2019 06:53

Waffly, thank you, I will take a look.

Kittywampus · 17/04/2019 07:16

Brilliant @MotherForkinShirtBalls Smile

Ellapaella · 17/04/2019 07:53

I had a pair of the blowfish granolas that @Kittywampus has linked. They were lovely and lasted about 4 years.

Romax · 17/04/2019 08:06

@nandaandm love the black ones

PrincessButtockUp · 17/04/2019 09:25

I can't wear anything with a very flat thin sole, and need some squish. Are these on the fugly side?

Lottapianos · 17/04/2019 09:29

I like those Princess

The thing is, whatever pair of shoes you post, some will say they're fine, and some will faint with horror. So you might as well wear what you like, and sometimes that means comfort above all else

I can easily cover ten miles or more in a day of sightseeing so lots of these wouldn't be any use. I tend to go with something squishy from Clarks and unlike most people on here, I like black sandals and also quite like those ones with the white trainer-esque soles.

Ellapaella · 17/04/2019 10:00

I think there's perhaps two different types of sandal: Those you wear for comfort and those that you wear to compliment an outfit and look good.
Birkenstock's maybe fall somewhere in the middle and I agree with a PP who said that even though they are a bit fugly they do strangely seem to suit most people's feet and look nice.
For me if I was going for comfort and planning to do a lot of long distance walking I'd opt for trainers over sandals but appreciate in very hot weather sandals may be preferable.

I'm sure there'll be another 500 sandal threads over the coming months and it'll be the same theme over and over with multiple posters claiming certain sandals are thing of beauty and some saying they are hideous crimes against fashion.

Boulezvous · 17/04/2019 10:08

Useful post thank you. I wouldn't personally order shoes online - I really need to try them on to check they're comfy. I have high arches and a bunyan so need something not too flat it narrow.

On a slightly different theme anyone got any suggestions for work appropriate summer shoes and/or ones with a reasonable (not really high) heel?

bingoitsadingo · 17/04/2019 10:45

I have a pair of these timberland ones which are a birkenstock-type vibe, but strappy and a softer footbed. Like walking on clouds!

I like these salt water ones...I just can't justify the price! I Sam rough on my shoes. Will these last years? I reckon they could be a wardrobe summer staple for me...
