On every thread where someone posts a picture of sandals to ask for advice, theres always a chorus of 'hideous', 'granny', 'fugly' etc. So please share some photos of sandals that you think are nice, stylish, chic, non-stomach-churning, whatever. Bear in mind that many of us need sandals to be comfortable and suitable for lots of walking. I promise no snarky comments!

Stretch material and padded?

Not pretty but they are summery colours.

EnidButton · 16/04/2019 18:37

I think the walking sandal type ones get away with the fugliness because they're not trying to be fashionable or pretty or whatever. They own it. They're there to be comfy af and nothing else. I still won't wear them but they are fine I think.

FiremanKing · 16/04/2019 18:41

Fairly modern looking

Liking this thread but still can’t find any sandals I like. I love dm’s but find their sandals too heavy and my ankles are to skinny for them. Birkenstock’s give me painful feet and dry skin.

I like www.moshulu.co.uk/wilma-waxy-toe-post-cork-footbed-sandals.html these from moshulu, I bought a pair a couple years ago and find them more comfortable than Birkenstock’s.

LadyKylieShagworthy · 16/04/2019 18:46

I have these on my wish list, but they are a bit pricey at £95. I might have to wait til the sales.

I'm a big fan of fit flops. They do great things to my thighs! And I find them very comfortable.
I have several pairs, but these are what I've gone for for this summer

@BillyAndTheSillies

Love those ancient Greek ones you refer to!

Are they comfy? True to size?

Elemental · 16/04/2019 19:19

I’m a fan of the chunky type of sandal (and shoe in general, not keen on the delicate look) although I’ve never had a totally comfortable sandal experience until buying my yellow patent saltwaters last summer which were a revelation, especially as I was heavily pregnant during the heatwave. I’ve just bought these Dr Marten Verity sandals and they’re the Virginia soft leather so am hoping they’ll be comfortable too and I like the little wedge.

I have these from Cos. So comfy. Soft footbed and soft leather uppers. Love them. They're in black or white. Worth the £££

There's clearly nice looking sandals on one side and comfy walking around sandals on the other and ne'er the Twain shall meet. Unfortunately. Especially if you have gnarled fat trotters like i do!

BillyAndTheSillies · 16/04/2019 19:26

So comfy @Romax
I've got the Clio and the Alcyone in a few colours.
True to size but Italian sizing, I'm an 8 and wear a 42 and I live in them. The leather has worn in beautifully and despite the thin sole I was walking 4 or 5 miles a day in them with no issues.
They quite often come up on the outnet as well.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 16/04/2019 19:30

I tend to stick to Havainas for kicking around, and then Saltwaters and Palmairas for out and about.

drowningincustard · 16/04/2019 19:47

Thanks for this thread - it has helped me lots as I know I need new sandals for this summer. Based on the tips - I have narrowed down to 5 that I like the look of - will need to next check out in real life if they look as nice and are comfy!

  1. Whitestuff Carrie
  2. Timberland Los Angeles
  3. Timberland Malibu
  4. Ugg Uma
  5. Kickers Spagnol
Romax · 16/04/2019 19:47

Salter... I’m new to them.
Are they comfort? True to size?
Thoughts on these?

For day time wear - school run / grocery shopping etc

Romax · 16/04/2019 19:49

For me - anything beyond practical day time wear... you can’t beet Russell and Bromley

OxanaVorontsova · 16/04/2019 19:55

Love those badgerama

Ellapaella · 16/04/2019 20:16

@Romax I had some Saltwaters last summer but ended up selling them on eBay. I like the ones you've posted there. I just found them too flat. A 6 was too small and my usual size 7 just left too much room at the toe area so I was tripping up all the time,
I can see the appeal though. Maybe worth a try?

Oblomov19 · 16/04/2019 20:24

Watching for ideas for very wide feet.

CottonSock · 16/04/2019 20:27

Some of you are so mean @Frangipane. I have a similar pair , a bit less heavy maybe. I get lots of compliments and to be honest I don't have much choice with bunions and toes that dislocate themselves.
