On every thread where someone posts a picture of sandals to ask for advice, theres always a chorus of 'hideous', 'granny', 'fugly' etc. So please share some photos of sandals that you think are nice, stylish, chic, non-stomach-churning, whatever. Bear in mind that many of us need sandals to be comfortable and suitable for lots of walking. I promise no snarky comments!

@FiremanKing love the bright Clark's sandals

whitershadeofpale · 17/04/2019 14:25

@FiremanKing IMO they're all quite frumpy except the first Dune pair, which are nice.

FiremanKing · 17/04/2019 14:34

It’s so frustrating when you have to put comfort over style.

I used to be able to wear anything now I can’t.

Circa 1981 my friends and I wore cheapo dolly shoes one summer. They were black softball fabric with a brown rubber sole. The toe was closed in and they had a strap that went over the foot. They were sort of Chinese looking. Even now I remember how comfortable they are!

animaginativeusername · 17/04/2019 14:38

I think comfortable footwear can be stylish, even as a teen I wore comfortable footwear aa high heels or being uncomfortable just didn't make sense. Plus heeled shoe, just wouldn't be affordable as to get anywhere I rely on public transport, or walk so pretty looking shoes would last

FiremanKing · 17/04/2019 14:39

Im getting side tracked by Mary Janes now

Wouldn't*

@BlackPrism you see I don't understand how footwear or clothing can be 'geriatric'. My younger sister has always made fun of me because I buy most of my footwear from Clark's, according to her its for 'old people'. Whereas there footwear is most stylish and comfortable.

animaginativeusername · 17/04/2019 14:43

I'm 43, and wear fusion of Asian and western clothes. Maybe it's my clothing style which gives me confidence to wear 'ugly' shoesSmile

I hate sandals, don’t like feet, on me or other people...

But I’m getting to the age where there’s so many bits of my body I need to cover up I have to deal with it.

Anyway, ordered these from John Lewis the other day. I don’t really care if they’re fugly, they have a thinner sole than a Birkenstock but it’s not wafer thin. And the extra buckle strap should help it stay on, I hope.

Thank you @welltidy

tierraJ · 17/04/2019 15:43

Hullabaloo I don't think they're real leather as they were £45, I think for real leather it would be nearer £70?

I don't mind though.

Btw I also have some nice sandals & flip flops from Accessorize that are pretty & embellished.
But the River Island ones are more comfy.

WellTidy · 17/04/2019 16:00

These sandals also tick my boxes.

I’ve got these in brown, white and rose gold. They’re great, soft leather, comfy, shaped, supportive footbed and non slip sole.

I’ve got wide feet and fat ankles so I had to go up a size as in my usual 7 I couldn’t do up the ankle strap Blush Love them though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/04/2019 16:55

I like those yellow ones a lot.

EnidButton · 17/04/2019 17:38

I like those Magic! So that's at least two pairs on this thread that I'd wear. So maybe I don't hate all sandals.

HastaLaVistaPrint · 17/04/2019 18:53

Blimey Magic, they look like might be comfortable AND they’re really nice. Shock

Tooner · 17/04/2019 18:59

Loving all the sandals. I have mortons neuroma so need a good comfy sole to accomodate this,
I have been buying the Karrimore sandals for a few years now. Great price in pretty colours and comfy for walking around on my hols in the summer.

Found my go-to sandals on a PPs link. These look, I think, quite reasonable in real life and they are brilliant for misshapen difficult feet because one of the straps is elasticated so stretches to accommodate ugly misshapen foot whereas most sandals would just dig in and be unwearable for me. I'll be getting a new pair of these this year, the old pair have been worn for three years and have been very comfortable for lots of city walking on successive holidays

I bought these last summer in tan - not the best looking but sooooo comfy. Walked miles in them.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 17/04/2019 19:30

I am such a sheep. Have ordered a pair of those Timberland in rose gold. They're a nice change from my usual Birkenstock Mayari.

Thanks for linking to them.

FiremanKing · 17/04/2019 19:46

I quite like these but not sure if they would be wise enough and I’d prefer tan to chocolate
