Remember, let's critique the clothes without getting too personal about the wearers.

On an aside, are there any famous women who haven't had anything done?
I don’t think the York Princesses have had anything done but they are very young.
But I think past 35; most women in the public eye have a bi5 of “refreshing” even if it’s a bit of Botox

ElspethFlashman · 12/02/2019 14:43

I have a friend who does it on Harley St. There are so many you wouldn't expect. Tons and tons of men do it. All those panel show blokes, newsreaders, comedians, politicians... I've gotten the impression it's basically everyone. It's so subtle these days. It no longer makes you look frozen, it just makes you look like you've had a good night's sleep. You stop looking crumpled.

But basically when you find yourself realising so and so hasn't aged in 10 years, it's Botox.

So now that I know how ubiquitous it is, I really think people in the public eye who don't do it are a bit foolish tbh. Everyone else will look fresh forever and you'll be there looking shattered beside them.

The Queen in her one shoulder dress.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/02/2019 15:23

HM even went strapless on several occasions - scandale!

An HM style retrospective where she appears to break many of her alleged rules including bare arms, strapless dresses, above-the-knee skirts and even wears leopard print in one shot!

There are so many you wouldn't expect.

I have no doubt this is true. I know several people in RL who have it done on a regular basis. I never have, but I admit that I am tempted. All of the people I know who do it are older women still in the workforce, and they are quite honest that they do it to because of ageism. Sad to say but they think that looking younger and more rested gives them more credibility.

AnnaMagnani · 12/02/2019 16:27

QueenOfTheAndals I don't think that's leopard print, I think that's an actual leopard Shock

Helpmepleasenow48 · 12/02/2019 16:34

I think Kate's dress is lovely but she's most certainly had botox, her eyebrows just look so lifted. And if you look at pics just before she got engaged she looks completely different and it's not weight gain or loss, she had her face tweaked somehow, she looked more natural and prettier. That's a shame but I guess they all do it now...

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 12/02/2019 17:01

Yes Help I completely agree, you can clearly tell the difference in her face when Kate can’t have Botox due to pregnancy/breastfeeding I don’t blame her one bit, I think she has it well done, just the right amount, Botox is so different these days I think the frozen look is passé.

ThanksItHasPockets · 12/02/2019 17:03

I wonder why they bother adding ££ with bespoke when it's better as it is? To avoid risk of clashing with anyone?

I suspect it’s to avoid unflattering side-by-side ‘who wore it best’ type comparisons with the nineteen-year-old supermodel who wore it in the couture show.

Rhubarbisevil · 12/02/2019 17:09

March 1963 was a sartorialus horribilus for The Queen Grin🤦‍♀️

SirVixofVixHall · 12/02/2019 17:22

I think she does look frozen though, the unnaturally raised eyebrows, the flatness inbetween. She is a naturally pretty woman, and there is nothing shameful about getting a few lines. I hate the idea that a woman’s face is wrong if she has natural signs of getting older. HMQ has beautiful skin still, unfrozen ! I agree it is popular, but I think it rarely looks good. It usually gives people the wrong brows for their face.( Is also a bit naff).

DontCallMeCharlotte · 12/02/2019 17:30

I don't think that's leopard print, I think that's an actual leopard shock

Ha ha - you took the words right out of my mouth!

(And I too prefer the original dress with the sash)

latedecember1963 · 12/02/2019 17:38

Thank you for that lovely retrospective, QueenoftheAndals.

In the July 1941 photo I wondered if Princess Margaret is wearing the necklace the then Princess Elizabeth is wearing as a one year old in the first picture.

I quite like the blue dress and cape combo in the 1984 photo.
My least favourite is the strange harlequin dress from November 1999.

I agree Sir Vix. I think it's a shame that this is what we have come to expect of women (and men....Shane Warne, Bradley Cooper et al). I am afraid I hate the 'tweaked' look but obviously I am in the minority!! Even DH thinks it's great that people can have procedures to make the best of themselves. I just prefer the natural look!

Back to the frocks. I love the pics of HMQ as a young women. She looks amazing in the pic Seneca just posted.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/02/2019 18:25

Meghan and Harry going to natural history museum tonight

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/02/2019 18:48

HM's figure in that photo @SenecaFalls posting is amazing! And open-toed shoes too!

I think those who go on about her "rules" forget that she wasn't always the elderly lady most of us know. She had more than her share of glam moments in her youth!

SenecaFalls · 12/02/2019 18:55

I watched the documentary on Princess Margaret and they were showing one of her evening dresses. It had a 21 inch waist. Now I assume that some type of foundation garment helped, but still, 21 inches. That is tiny.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/02/2019 19:08

H&M have arrived at the gala. She looks to be in cream or pale pink.
Twitter says Calvin Klein dress and Amanda Wakely coat.

Looks a bit like a hospital gown here and the camera flashes won't help.

But from the neck up she's flawless, as usual!

Good grief, I don't like that at all.
How can she get it so wrong?!

megletthesecond · 12/02/2019 19:17

They've arrived at the NHM.
Her bump looks awfully big.

UrsulaPandress · 12/02/2019 19:17

What is it with all this white?
