And in case you get bored of the royals or they're having a quiet week, here's the Celebrity S&G thread!

Remember, let's critique the clothes without getting too personal about the wearers.

Hairydilemma. Maybe the powers that be thought it would be nice to ease anne in this year Wink. In fairness I think Sophie is pretty used to handling the les glamorous jobs these day but she's definitely someone I would like to see more off when she looses the oversized coat that is!!

We went to trooping of the colour when I was a kid strangely enough I don't really remember much about the queen but it was an amazing spectacle! A bit odd very British lots of pomp but definitely worth seeing!

Clionba. I agree I think it's the way Leto is modern but not a slave to fashion trends it's a great mix for me.

I do love these threads that have introduced me to gowns and tiaras as well as genealogy that I wouldn’t otherwise have known about. I particularly like the tiara that Curly posted at 22:59 yesterday.

I have a question: Having never worn a tiara, nor am I likely to, how do tiaras get fixed so they don’t wobble about or slip over one’s eyes when looking down? Does one have to learn how to slurp soup whilst keep one’s head perfectly erect? Smile

Clionba · 06/02/2019 20:17

The tiara base has a soft band stitched on. It usually matches the hair colour. You can use hair grips to attach it to your hair. Often the hair is lacquered to keep the thing steady.

itswinetime · 06/02/2019 20:27

Do they get bent to the shape of people's heads a bit? I have always wondered if that's why the royals stick to one or two??

frugalkitty · 06/02/2019 20:29

I'd love to wear a tiara, just once. Curly I really like the look of the exhibition at the V&A....there was one for the Queens jubilee (I think) a few years ago at Buckingham Palace, all diamonds and oh my goodness with the lighting etc some of it was absolutely stunning! The year before was Kate's wedding dress etc which was also a great display.

Has anyone gone to see Meghan's dress? Or am I getting it wrong and it's not on display yet? I'd love it if they did a load of royal dresses together like I've seen on Pinterest (the Spanish, Norwegian and Swedish brides spring to mind).

My favourite royal wedding dresses
Princess Grace
Christina of Spain
Lady Sarah Chatti
Lady Helen Windsor
Queen Letizia
CP Mette Marite (knock a point or two off for being jealous of the groom Grin )

kooshbin · 06/02/2019 20:29

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks, Clionba.

frugalkitty · 06/02/2019 20:30

Chatti???? I corrected that twice, stupid phone! Chatto......

peridito · 06/02/2019 20:30

I think the green frog dress discussion has passed but the Evening Standard pics today showed the material very well .Boucle ? ,nice and warm anyway .

Frugalkitty, I went to see Meghan and Harry's wedding outfits in Windsor just before Christmas. It was great to see the
close up, especially the tiara which was dreamy! I believe the exhibition is in Edinburgh now.

The tour guide said Eugenie's dress might be displayed in Windsor this year, I'd definitely take a trip to see that as it's my favourite royal wedding dress of all that I've seen.

itswinetime · 06/02/2019 20:46

I have been holding out on a trip to Windsor in the hope eugeine's would be on display at the same time! I think that's look unlikely but on the whole I think there would be more to see with eugeine's and I preferred it I'd love a display of them all!

frugalkitty · 06/02/2019 20:49

Ooh yes, I'd love to see Eugenie's dress too, and her tiara which was stunning! My mum has an emerald and diamond ring which is similar.....she not passing it on yet though!

itswinetime · 06/02/2019 20:54

A nice look back on the queen here to mark 67 years since her father passed. She has been queen for so long and seen so much in terms of political change to style and beauty but it all came at the price of loosing her father young must be a strange day for The queen.

Now we're talking wedding dresses I've found some pictures of Crown Prince Haakon's great grandmother's (Queen Maud of Norway) wedding.
Maud was the sister of George V & married her maternal cousin Carl (who became King Haakon VII) in 1896.
I like her dress. I've never seen it before but I've just realised it's very similar to my wedding dress with the neckline & embroidered flowers (roses?)

LaurenOrdering · 06/02/2019 21:00

@itswinetime yes it must be a bittersweet day for HMQ.
I think the rule of becoming Queen/King should change from waiting until the previous sovereign has died to having a natural retirement (abdication) like the previous Dutch Queen & the previous Spanish King.

MotherofPearl · 06/02/2019 21:02

Goodness me - those waist sizes in the wedding photos Lauren posted! I suppose there's some serious corsetry going on there.Shock

AFifthOfKoolAid · 06/02/2019 21:03

Blimey, those tiny corseted waists! It's a wonder they could breathe!

Itswinetime the Queen looks fab in the third and fourth pics of that collection, like an old school movie star.

LaurenOrdering · 06/02/2019 21:04

@MotherofPearl makes you almost faint looking at them. Thank goodness that fashion has gone!

Paradyning · 06/02/2019 21:12

Teeny tiny waists! Don't they all just look like their mum Queen Alexandra?
I think that's the Fife tiara that Louise has in in the right hand side.
That's one of my all time favourites!

Clionba · 06/02/2019 21:14

I have to say, old Maud doesn't look too thrilled. Plus her mum and sisters have expressions of utter despair Confused

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2019 21:16

I don't think they do @Paradyning, Alexandra was very beautiful and they're all more like Bertie. She managed to discover the fountain of youth too - she looks like their sister in that wedding photo!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2019 21:20

Victoria was the most attractive of Alexandra's daughters but she's the only one who never married. Apparently Alexandra actively discouraged her from it as she wanted to have a daughter who remained at home. I think she was something of a suffocating mother.

Touching base because I’d lost this thread for a bit. I have got a ticket to see the Diana exhibition at Kensington Palace next weekend! Not sure if I can take any photos but I’ll try 🤞🏽

GinZing · 06/02/2019 21:29

They’re waists are smaller than the young child’s!

Petalflowers · 06/02/2019 21:29

I remember going to an exhibition of all Charles and Dis wedding presents many moons ago.
