Link to book group thread, which has the list of books.

And in case you get bored of the royals or they're having a quiet week, here's the Celebrity S&G thread!

Remember, let's critique the clothes without getting too personal about the wearers.

@MissMaisel

Just catching up and am intrigued, what are the many, many protocol errors that Kate made for years??

AFifthOfKoolAid · 06/02/2019 11:35

Maybe the time that wind blew her skirt up and she flashed her arse cheeks. Duchesses should wear bloomers and tights and have a weighted hem. It's in the Big Duchess Handbook.

This brilliant article explains how she's a rebel by - gasp!- having a degree! And wearing above the knee skirts and casual clothes.

Another article suggests wearing wedges was another breach.

myqueenkate · 06/02/2019 11:41

@AFifthofKoolAid

Ahhh thanks, thought I’d missed something in my Kate watching there...

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2019 11:41

I really wonder where these stories about HM's rules about what royal women (as it's always the women!) wear come from? She's been around a long time - she's seen a lot of fashions come and go at least twice - is she really that bothered? I'm pretty sure I've seen photos of Princess Anne wearing minis back in the 60s and 70s, and HM herself wore her share of glam outfits. I find it hard to believe she cares too much about the length of Kate or Meghan's skirt. As long as it's not world's your gynae length then what's the problem?

Just turned the page of my fact of the day calendar, today's fact is it's the anniversary of George VI's death, so 67 years of Queen Elizabeth.

When would plans start for a Platinum Jubilee?

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2019 11:46

I hadn't considered it but of course Kate will be the first queen with a university degree. I think the QM was the first queen who'd been to school.

flatpackbox · 06/02/2019 12:42

God that article is complete trash isn't it 😂!!

Like PPs I am here for the beautiful clothes as a bit of light relief and read more than I post but I am definitely not here for sniping and negativity.

queenofarles · 06/02/2019 12:48

My subsequent posts were being sarcastic and predicting how her detractors will find fault in whatever she does
but no one on here said or even mentioned any of the stuff you just wrote Confused I see this stuff on DM which we all loathe their coverage of Both Kate and Meghan.

when it comes to Meghan people get so defensive, I absolutely have no idea why!
Just on the previous thread we talked about intimate details concerning Wallis and Edward . The Queen mother possible infertility issues the possibility of a boy with disabilities locked away in Glamis, thats some pretty controversial stuff. I don't recall anyone getting so defensive.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 06/02/2019 12:55

Quite agree Queenofarles - there was also some pretty mean comments about another poster on this thread.

Anyway, I personally didn't like Kate's outfit yesterday but am sure she will live knowing it was a miss from me Wink

itswinetime · 06/02/2019 12:58

Has the evil face frog dress grown on anyone else?? Was a miss yesterday but the more I see it the more I think I might like it 😱

mrscampbellblackreturns · 06/02/2019 13:01

I agree with someone else who said it was a very 'Queen' colour. It was also suitable for the occasion and lordy, Kate does have great hair.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 06/02/2019 13:01

Mentioned any of what stuff? There were mentions that she is attention seeking and questioning why she was choosing a particular hospital. There was mention on here that "apparently she's having a doula". I was illustrating that you can just make up any old bollocks and stick "apparently" before it.

Wallis and Edward were Nazi sympathisers and are both dead..

The Queen Mother is dead but yes, it's Hella distasteful to discuss her fertility issue and secret disabled child. I don't recall seeing that discussion but it's grim. I am also uncomfortable with speculating on the contents of Eugenie's womb, just as I am uncomfortable with people at work gossiping about who may or may not be up the duff. If they are, they'll announce it when they're comfortable and ready.

I like clothes and shoes and ridiculous jewellery, which is why I read this. But there's a difference between gossiping and bitching, and this thread seems to tip into the latter a lot of the time. Why does anyone give a shit about where a woman they will never meet chooses to give birth?

But I've definitely seen people call out mean bollocks about Kate as well as Meghan.

certainlymerry · 06/02/2019 13:02

The DM etc are just good for a laugh these days. They literally make up everything they write. They have NO idea where MM is going to have her baby, whether she is having Hypnobirthing lessons, or has hired a Doula They don't know whether she plans to have a nanny or whether her mother is moving to the UK, has bought a flat in London, or has her own quarters in Frogmore . It is all just a load of made up crap with a vicious twist . I think it is a very misogynistic 'paper' too. Nothing more than a hate filled load of lies dressed up as 'news'.

queenofarles · 06/02/2019 13:15

itswinetime I think it's just like the céline luggage bag , we all saw the sad robot face at first , but then everyone went mad for them.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 06/02/2019 13:16

Whilst I agree that some comments are unfair - I'm not thinking of any in particular but it would be impossible for there not to be some unfortunately - I really don't think this thread tips into bitchiness, for the most part.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 06/02/2019 13:19

Not royal of course but James Middleton taking 4 dogs for a ride Smile

I'm liking his city gent does country outfit.

I sorted out a load of my old books at my mum's house yesterday and cane acriss this, the memoirs of Wallis Simpson. I'm not likely to read it again but thought if anyone on here would like it, I'll happily post it out. DM me if you'd like it.

frugalkitty · 06/02/2019 13:49

'Came across' that should read! Sorry!

SenecaFalls · 06/02/2019 13:50

but no one on here said or even mentioned any of the stuff you just wrote

Everything she quoted has been said on MN, perhaps not on this thread, but certainty on others, especially the ones specifically about Meghan.

CreakyBlinder · 06/02/2019 13:56

I think we mainly steer away from bitchy, but it's not really that which bothers me. It's just...this thread was the antidote to all the trashy lowest-common denominator gossipy stuff. And someone having her baby at the local hospital is definitely descending into that realm.

megletthesecond · 06/02/2019 14:02

AF you're right. Platinum jubilee in 2022 Shock.

They seem to come round so often now. I had an awesome foil, purple tissue paper and cotton wool crown at playschool for the silver jubilee.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 06/02/2019 14:16

That sounds fabulous, meglett! Maybe you can recreate the look.

I was doing my A levels in the Golden Jubilee year and it feels like 3.5 years ago.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 06/02/2019 14:16

I also mentioned a Jewellery Exhibition at the V&A and posted some fashion pics about CP Mary.

I was just catching up on the thread... I was going to say how I would be back at the V&A (after Dior) for that jewellery exhibition and how much I loved the orange evening outfit CPM was wearing - I admire her a lot (not least for learning Danish!) so I ignored my self-imposed DM ban to have a look at those pictures.

itswinetime · 06/02/2019 14:16

That is a crazy though a platinum jubilee is 3 years away! Let's just hope if it comes round there are better ideas than the diamond remember making to 80+ year old endure hours on the Thames and a pop concert in their back garden Grin

Platinum jubilee is tricky. Too much forward planning could always come to nowt, for obvious reasons...
