Well I think as she has tagged them numerous times before, and they feature on the herringbone kitchen's own feed and website, the cat is out the bag on that one already Grin

OrnamentalDiamond · 09/02/2019 21:17

I agree with JessicaPeach: it was made very clear by the kitchen manufacturers that the OD kitchen wasn’t a fully gifted kitchen, but there was no mention of ‘press discounts’. The cropping out of the kitchen by both MOD and FOD is telling.

I like MuthaHood and I don’t mind her brand. I’m also pleased she has stopped using #giftymcswifty which felt like a way of hiding the word GIFT. However, all those small brands who have sent her daughters clothes? That’s advertising. #AD. They didn’t send those clothes because they were worried the girls would have to get about nekkid.

KimchiLaLa · 09/02/2019 21:26

On another note. Does anyone else find FOD's posts really long winded? I always get three lines in and wonder where he's taking this.

KimchiLaLa · 09/02/2019 21:29

*Oh it’s annelibush that is doing the #gifted in same colour font as backgrounds so it’s hard to see!

She has done it again on stories with a Hermosa London gifted bag. Text in grey but #gifted in white to match the door behind it so not that visible. I think it’s really sad to go to those lengths to hide that something has been given to you for free.*

Used to like her but find her style ridiculously boring now, and what's worse it's become so clear that she is given absolutely everything. There's not one outfit she posts which isn't gifted. Maybe her style would be more original if she veered outside of freebies

OrnamentalDiamond · 09/02/2019 21:30

FOD’s captions are never as amusing as he believes them to be.

KimchiLaLa · 09/02/2019 21:30

*Oh my, what a blog. Emma can write, she's funny, full of integrity, her hair is cool and she makes me want to buy some RayBans.

I think I have a crush *

She is great.

KimchiLaLa · 09/02/2019 21:32

Yes you can just tell he thinks he's just. So. Smart. But there's only so many pics of him pulling some weird "wtf?" Face at the camera with his kids in the background that I can take.

theharlotletter · 09/02/2019 22:30

In my 20 years of owning houses I've had 3 kitchens and a few bathrooms fitted and have never once felt any urge to befriend the suppliers. I would be astounded if full price, or even half the RRP was paid for that kitchen if I'm honest. I think this situation is going to have a negative rebound for a lot of people.

ThreeFourFive · 09/02/2019 22:35

I'd be very surprised if the kitchen wasn't fully paid for given the kitchen company's post - it really would look too dishonest otherwise . Still, everything has to be clearly tagged and referenced, from the floor to the ceiling, so I guess the truth will out. It's a shame really but the influencers only have themselves to blame for their unwillingness to be transparent - which is why the CMA are coming after them.

ThreeFourFive · 09/02/2019 22:40

The kitchen company does say in another one of their, unrelated, posts to expect to pay around £40,000 for a kitchen which is a huge amount of money. Still, if you aren’t paying for holidays, clothes, furniture, white goods, etc then I guess it does free up your budget.

It's like this whole gallery wall trend, I follow quite a few interiors accounts and one posted their gallery wall and there were about 15 pictures in it and EVERY SINGLE print was gifted. Every single one! Kinda impossible for anyone else to recreate that without being pretty well off.

hopeishere · 10/02/2019 09:07

But also shows a total lack of depth and taste. There wasn't one photo / print / image of their own they wanted up there? Identikit lives. Tragic.

Intothedenofvipers · 10/02/2019 09:28

I’m an artist and this really annoys me! It’s the same as buying Ikea art (and they do pay artists and photographers to use their art) but it’s so lazy to just copy each other... and let’s face it artist’s are rarely making a fortune.
Maybe I should start ‘gifting’ some of the prints I have? Hmm

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 10/02/2019 09:36

i find it quite hard to choose art as it has to look good and feel meaningful for me and my family too so i like seeing inspiration on Instagram for ideas but I’m a bit over gallery walls now. That bloody Margo in Margate print as well - lovely at first but would you want your house to look like an Insta house with it on your wall (or propped up if they don’t want to commit to a nail) ?

theharlotletter · 10/02/2019 10:29

That Margot in Margate print is everywhere all of a sudden isn't it. I'm afraid if I saw it in someone's house now I would have a private smirk.

EdWinchester · 10/02/2019 10:40

Yes! I would be embarrassed to have that bloody Be Kind print, even if I liked it. Which I don't.

And I wish FoD would stop writing paragraphs of what he clearly perceives to be witty humour, when in fact, they are cringe making and exceptionally poorly written. I don't even follow him but seem to see his irritating posts somehow.

ThreeFourFive · 10/02/2019 15:05

Please, please, please - who has the gifted gallery wall?

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 10/02/2019 15:13

Nest Twenty Eight and Little Big Bell both have gallery walls which are largely gifted. Lisa Dawson has a ton of gifted prints and a few gallery walls dotted around her house. It may not be any of these that mondayoneday was referring to - there are probably others as well!

ThreeFourFive · 10/02/2019 15:31

Oh goodness! What total lack of originality this Instagram shop window is. Does everyone just have exactly the same as everyone else now? I now have visions of them all letting themselves into each other's houses by mistake and not noticing for days!

ThreeFourFive · 10/02/2019 15:36

Do any of them ever just break ranks and think, fuck it, I am going to exhibit some originality, some creativity or is the lure of all the freebies just too much?

mondayoneday · 10/02/2019 15:48

I'm sorry I can't remember which gallery wall it is Blush, but yes lots of them have walls made up of mostly gifted art. Some of them are up front but some of them you can just tell cos it's the same stuff on everybody else's wall, the "Margo in Margate" effect Grin. The two huge prints in mod's kitchen are gifted I noticed recently.

PuddingsAreMyJam · 10/02/2019 16:39

Imagine following someone like Lisa Dawson and thinking that you're keeping up with the trends. You'd have no chance. She's had two kitchen makeovers in the last two years. What 'normal' person can keep up with that?

I feel exhausted just looking at her account. I can understand why brands turned to 'influencers' to advertise on the sly. Get dark cupboards for your kitchen! Now it's 3 months later. Get pale kitchen cupboards! Paint your living room navy! Now the trend is peach walls! Tropical wall paper is in! No it's not, that was so last month! White paint and gallery walls!

Are there any interior accounts that show you how to do things on a budget and don't follow the herd? Or do they all fall prey to brands when they get a large following? I know it's all about 'aspiration' but some of these accounts have been so dishonest in the past.

Babbas · 10/02/2019 16:54

Everyone has the gallery wall and it's absolutely cringe worthy and shoes such lack of personal style. The only one I've seen that I like iuds 40plusnotgivingup. Hers massively consists ood get daughters art work and is really really beautiful.

I've noticed they've all started reverted to #gift in bottom right Corner. No #ad. Wonder if the cma will ever take any action.

ThreeFourFive · 10/02/2019 17:31

@PuddingsAreMyJam - have you tried Simplythenest? She is a really inspirational instagrammer - doing up her gorgeous house with her husband. Inspiring women to think that they can do DIY, work full time, not make a drama out of raising 3 children (who she is not plastering all over the Internet as advertising bait) and good taste too! Go and have a look.
