One interiors account I follow just called a post which contained a gifted item a "passive promotion" LOL! Is that gonna be the new hashtag?

PuddingsAreMyJam · 10/02/2019 18:03

@ThreeFourFive thank you, I'll take a look.

ThreeFourFive · 10/02/2019 18:08

And if anyone knows of a gardening instagrammer - someone who could take me from very, very beginner to vaguely competent, Iwould be grateful!

JessicaPeach · 10/02/2019 18:10

Passive promotion?! Grinplease tell us who that was!

mondayoneday · 10/02/2019 18:40

It was an account called crayvilla.

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 10/02/2019 19:03

I like Monty Don for gardening, I find him relaxing as he’s not trying to flog me anything Grin

visitorthedog · 10/02/2019 20:26

I don’t know, @wouldyoulikeabagwiththat - I often feel an urge to purchase multiple Golden Retrievers after following him? Grin

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 10/02/2019 20:35

That’s actually true @visitorthedog. I love Nigel Grin

ThreeFourFive · 10/02/2019 20:36

Oh, I am easily sold a dog! Pictures and kitchens I can do without - but always a sucker for a dog.

Ruleof4 · 10/02/2019 20:36

I follow interiors accounts and they don't have huge followings, genuinely seem interested in helping their followers and clients too! I hope it stayed that way. Completely agree about the picture hallways etc so overdone now. There is very few accounts with complete originality.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/02/2019 23:03

I follow a lovely South African woman who lives in NY and does gardening and foraging in very urban settings.

She has some articles about it on Gardenista.
Account is called 66 square inches.

ThreeFourFive · 11/02/2019 13:43

66 Square feet? Ah ha, I follow her, wonderful blogger.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/02/2019 13:55

Sorry, feet not inches.

66 square inches would be very a very challenging gardening situation indeed.

There is a Panorama investigation this evening on the rise of social media influencer marketing, which should be a good watch.

ThreeFourFive · 11/02/2019 18:47

@wouldyoulikeabagwiththat - just come here to say exactly the same thing! The news item on R4 was about gambling and children but I think the programme takes a broader look at the whole advertising industry propping up the "so called influencer" business.

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 11/02/2019 19:33

Good to see the press starting to take more of an interest in some of the issues. Looking forward to their take on things.

OffWithThePixies · 11/02/2019 21:16

I’ve put the Panorama episode on Sky+ for later

Article on Irish influencers receiving ‘talent’ visas in the US www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/abroad/how-irish-influencers-are-securing-extraordinary-ability-visas-for-the-us-1.3786833

ThreeFourFive · 11/02/2019 21:59

Sooner public opinion turns against the whole influencer culture (especially the oversharing instaparent bollocks), the better. We all see the dangers for children and social media and yet applaud the influencers who offer up their own children as an advertising currency. Just wrong.

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 11/02/2019 22:38

Hmmm ASA didn’t come out of that programme too well. Weak, flapping and looking like aren’t in control of things. The CMA on the other hand....

hopeishere · 12/02/2019 07:16

The fact they flashed up motherpukka's numbers twice was interesting. So it's all carefully curated, monitored, tweaked and manipulated. Not at all spontaneous!

WoahThereMama · 12/02/2019 11:50

The power of Insta blogging/marketing - currently a pissed off frenzy on some Insta pages because M&S sold out in all sizes of the Fran shoe (Fashion Lift) before 7am on the day they launched. They are lovely shoes to be fair Smile. Though it makes me wonder if M&S only had 50 pairs for them to sell out so quick.

Already on eBay for £80 and as they’re being sold online only the person selling them won’t even have had them delivered yet. I hope nobody buys them

Underparmummy · 12/02/2019 12:18

The DLAM shoes sold out too according to her. They were atrocious though!

DillyDilly · 12/02/2019 12:33

I’d wonder how many of the shoes were actually produced. DLAM’s were awful. Fran’s were lovely except wasn’t mad about the heel.

It’s a great marketing strategy getting Influencer’s to design/assist in designing a product, so many get sucked in and buy at inflated prices.

Last year I bought what I thought to be a lovely beaded necklace that was designed by an influencer/instagrammed. I bought it knowing it was overpriced for what it was but really liked it, wore it all through my summer holiday and at the end the colour had worn off most of the necklace and I was left with a faded/white beaded necklace. My fault though for not reading the instructions until afterwards which stated that it wasn’t to be worn in the shower, pool, sea, etc, - which defeated the purpose of it being a summer necklace really.

Never again will I buy anything that an influencer puts their name too. The quality isn’t there - same with all the gold jewellery collaborations - high prices for gold or silver plated which will tarnish/wear away with little wear.

theharlotletter · 12/02/2019 13:21

@ dillydilly I had a similar very disappointing purchase from Beau & Chambers. Paid £60+ for a necklace and when it came it was so cheap looking that I couldn't bring myself to wear it.

DillyDilly · 12/02/2019 13:27

Mine was from a Laura F from Wardrobe Icons collaboration, it was a lovely necklace, perfect for summer holidays but only a longevity of two weeks unless you took it off to have a shower, swim In the pool or sea, didn’t spray perfume or sunscreen near it, etc. Definitely overpriced for what it was, I should have known better.
