Emma Hill. Full marks to someone who really can write, someone with integrity and someone who knows that just flogging something (or your kids!) for a quick buck just isn't worth it in the long run.

hopeishere · 08/02/2019 17:46

Well unthought it was fairly obvious it was a premier type event for the movie.

NotTheQueen · 08/02/2019 18:03

Irish independent article on how influencers earn their fees m.independent.ie/style/celebrity/just-how-do-influencers-make-their-money-and-is-the-game-up-for-them-37790397.html

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 08/02/2019 18:03

What was it about it that made you feel it was obvious it was an ad? The only thing that said ad to me was that it was on the DLAM page, where everything seems to be an ad of some kind.

PuddingsAreMyJam · 08/02/2019 18:20

Dresslikeamum's disclosure has always been appalling. It's no surprise she hasn't kept it up.

And she's one of the worst blaggers on Instagram. I unfollowed her a long time ago. I'm sure she's bought some of her followers to keep up with the bigger accounts as her engagement is pretty low for the amount of followers she has. But then again, she doesn't seem to interact with anyone who comments on her posts unless they're 'friends'.

NotTheQueen · 08/02/2019 18:20

I’ve just read Emma Hills blog post, and I’m really impressed She does seem to understand the need for transparency, the value and responsibility that comes with her influence and appears genuine in her willingness to be honest. I’ve not heard of her myself before, but I’ve added her to my Instagram feed

totallyliterally · 08/02/2019 18:29

Re the Emma Hill article, you can see why so many other influencers are pissed. Laying it out like that of the facts. She can hold her head up high. She knows what she does as a 'job' she knows it's a privilege and that people following her want honestly.

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 08/02/2019 18:43

That independent Irish article is good. Even goes into tax.

hopeishere · 08/02/2019 19:31

I didn't think it was an ad. I though it was them showing they had been invited to a premier. There were stacks of bloggers atbit as it was a press event.

Powergower · 08/02/2019 20:10

Well most of them have gone back to being completely non transparent. It didn't take long did it. I think it'll only properly change when the cma take some form of action.

Since it all kicked off I've unfollowed all the usual culprits. It's the only way to stop them patronising followers and it actually feels great.

whotheeff · 08/02/2019 22:40

And as if by pure coincidence DMBL40 is promoting Prai. I suggest this and the good housekeeping 'award' is all part of a coordinated marketing campaign.

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 08/02/2019 23:27

DMBL40’s last couple of ADs have been properly cheesy. And wtf is “evasive surgery”, I think she (or whoever wrote the copy) means invasive surgery??

Intothedenofvipers · 08/02/2019 23:30

Emma Hill is brilliant and conducting herself with maturity and impunity.
I have been pleased with the response of so
E of the influencers. I simply don’t follow or unfollow the ones I see behaving in a shady way. After all it’s what they would want!Grin

I will report, however, any guidelines which are being ignored’

ThreeFourFive · 09/02/2019 12:08

Ohh. The kitchen reveal is commencing - bit by bit, presumably to distract attention from the full gifted content. Interesting that the kitchen company is amongst the first to comment so they can "mention" each other and keep the sales merry go round at full steam. Still, nothing worth sacrificing your childrens' right to a childhood for.

according · 09/02/2019 14:12

DLAM is utterly shameless. Did anyone see the napkin request? Of course it was for 'recommendations' and absolutely not a blag for freebies. And then, lol and behold, some snazzy tiger napkins get sent to her. They're on her stories now, with a teeny tiny #adgift (??!) nestled in the corner.

ThanksItHasPockets · 09/02/2019 19:47

Herringbone Kitchens have commented on MOD’s latest post stating that the Hoopers are clients who paid for their kitchen.

theharlotletter · 09/02/2019 19:55

I have noticed that only very tightly angled photos of rooms are being taken, presumably so they only have to admit one or two items are #gifted Hmm

ThreeFourFive · 09/02/2019 20:18

Yes, I saw that they had been very eager to explain the nature of the relationship in answer to a very ordinary question. Seems everyone is very aware of CMA guidelines these days....... and, yes, very tight photography Hmm

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 09/02/2019 20:23

Ooh herringbone are a bit snippy aren't they? Crossing them off my list.

ThanksItHasPockets · 09/02/2019 20:36

I’ve just re-read it to see what you mean but I don’t get a snippy tone. I think it’s reasonable for them to point out that they are too small a business to gift whole kitchens, and if they’re aware of threads like this one it’s a sensible PR move to distance themselves from the gifting culture.

ThreeFourFive · 09/02/2019 20:47

Not sure it was snippy, but certainly defensive. They were asked a fairly innocent question and jumped in with a long winded reply. I thought everything was supposed to be tagged regardless, like the other paid for items. Guess it is the suspicion generated around influencers who have never previously declared things. It's going to be an interesting time.

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 09/02/2019 20:48

I think it's pretty snippy. They are associated with the gifting culture because they like and comment on nearly every post produced by several influencers whose kitchen fitting projects were heavily featured on their feeds/youtube, and those same influencers haven't disclosed plenty of gifts in the past. If they wanted to distance themselves from the gifting culture they could stick to a more traditional client/supplier relationship. If they became mates though the kitchen design process, why not use a personal account to engage with each other? Their instagram relationship appears to the outside observer to be mutually beneficial which is why people perhaps have questioned whether there is a commercial driver for this I suppose.

JessicaPeach · 09/02/2019 20:59

No one had suggested it was gifted, but they were at great pains to point out that the kitchen wasn't a gift. Not so much to say they'd paid full price. I wouldn't have thought much about it really but there are so many questions/issues with mod (and the rest!) that I wonder if you pay £1 does that mean the item was paid for rather than gifted?? Or is that the ever vague 'small discount'

ThreeFourFive · 09/02/2019 21:00

Ahh, wouldyoulikeabagwiththat - hadn't realised that they worked with other influencers too. Then, yes, they must expect people to have questions.

LaPampa · 09/02/2019 21:03

If I were MOD i wouldn’t be terribly happy that the brand were confirming they were clients and paid for their kitchen when Clemmie hadn’t tagged them at all. I’m not sure it’s on data wise to be saying things like that.
