Morning all! Come and join the gorgeously-scented chat!

Today I smell of lavender, woodsmoke and cinnamon biscuits, in Another Kiss By The Fireside.

I was in a department store with a friend and chatting with the perfume lady about chypre. My friend said "what's chypre?" and then acted like I was the weird one.

Half-price 4160 SOTW is Eau My Soul, btw

Count what was the TKMaxx temptation? I definitely do the 'looking it up on Fragrantica' thing Grin Must admit I am mildly tempted by the 50ml of Gucci Rush...I'd probably hate it but that bottle is just too daft not to have.

SotD #1 was Asja, early 90s Fendi. Cinnamon and Carnation spicy opening, but calmed down quite quickly into a soft musky oriental (maybe a bit too soft? Or maybe I should've applied a bit more).

SotD #2 is the first thing out of the Niche box, Le Participe Passe. Really comforting smoky/tarry balsam with a hint of airier green celery, and a hint of licorice molasses. This is oddly nostalgic. Tempted to layer something plummy over the top. Bet it's interesting with Arabie.

Can still smell last night's Diorama. They don't make 'em like that any more.

CountFosco · 09/11/2018 19:16

Fennel it wasLollia In Love, attractive because it was reduced from £60 to £16 and seemed like a pretty simple floral.

Puppylucky · 09/11/2018 19:17

Hello! I am dipping back into the thread, as a change of climate has reawakened my scent mojo. We have just moved back from Sydney to London and it's been really interesting to gauge the effect on my scent preferences. A lot of the big white flower scents I loved in Sydney smell weird and fake tan like back in London, whilst other scents have really come into their own. Currently in the PP version of Kingdom which smelt oddly veggie like in Sydney but now smells deliciously darkSmile

MissBattleaxe · 09/11/2018 19:40

Mrs Lucas- thanks for telling us about the PS niche box. Mine is on the way. SOTD yesterday was 4160 Tuesdays Sex Goddess, which I didn't like the first time, but then adored the second time and it's a staple in my frag wardrobe now.

SOTD today is Lanvin Arpege. It was £20 in TK Maxx last year for 100ml of EDP and boy! does this stuff last! Longevity is nine hours and counting!

Fantastiqueangel · 09/11/2018 20:16

Hello! New here, but rapidly developing a fragrance obsession!

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 09/11/2018 20:25

I will honour the advent idea and the squillions of untried samples I have and run my very own advent calendar alongside yours then! Brilliant idea to get me opening and sniffing/wearing rather than just buying like a madster.
Sotm was Envol by Cartier. Bit aftershavey after a while but love the first half an hour of sharp yet sweet powdery.
Now in bed in Shalimar.

Ollivander84 · 09/11/2018 20:40

SOTD Hawaiian tropic - golden paradise

MrsLucas · 09/11/2018 21:20

advent calender link (Doors can't be opened yet!).

Advent Calender options - Pefumistas, we need to make a group decision!

Option 1 (simple)

Everyone who's asked for a number needs to stash something away to open on 'their' day. They then post a brief description on the thread. I'll try and cut and paste the day's description back into the calendar every day. So it will up with everyone's comments and be a nice record of the project.

Option 2 Calendar/Secret Santa mash-up

Everyone who's in, will be paired up, exchange addresses and then post a wrapped sample/small decant to their counterpart. They'll then be very restrained and only open it on 'their' day, posting a description on the thread. (Again I'll try and cut and paste these back into the calendar).

What do you think?

If anyone has thought of Option 3, please shout now, there may be better ways of doing this. No reasonable idea refused...Grin

MrsLucas · 09/11/2018 21:23

Oh pants. More haste etc...really wish I'd spell checked that. Misspelling calendar more than once is fairly unforgivable .

Calmanddance · 09/11/2018 21:35

I have been missing for a while and am now trying to catch up with this perfume thread (and the last).

I am a great fan of 4160Tuesdays and have probably tried at least sample sizes of two thirds of them. There are some that just don’t work with my skin, either because they are too fleeting or just plain boring, such as Sunshine and Pancakes, Doe in the Snow, Tarts Knicker Drawer, Eau My Soul, Dirty Honey and Centrepiece. But there are many more which I adore. I have just bought the largest size bottle of Shazam! in the half price sale. It is such a beautiful warm spicy incense on me.

Mrsr8, I love Amberama 😍 , especially the lovely fruity raspberry note in it.

I can’t decide on a favourite perfume house. I am such a perfume tart! I do particularly like the Tauer Perfumes, but I have only tried a few. I have one full-size bottle (Incense Rose) and three miniatures.

MrsLucas, put me down for the advent calendar idea. Thank you for organising it. No idea how it will work, though!

I have been wearing Givenchy L’Interdit today. They were giving away samples in Oxford Street a few weeks ago and I bagsed several. It’s a very pleasant caramelly tuberose with a fruity opening. I shall finish the samples, but it’s not full bottle-worthy.

Sorry, cross-posted with you MrsLucas. I think I would prefer Option 2, but will be happy with whatever is decided.

MrsLucas · 09/11/2018 22:14

Welcome back Calm - we've missed you.

Love the thread title! Can't believe we are on Thread 18 already, that is 18000 posts about Bad Things Grin

MrsR have you tried the 4160s Babylon Sunset or Sleep Knot? I really love these, in fact they may be my favourite two, just behind Ealing Green.

Welcome to new faces and returning ones, I have MIA since the old thread due to a terrible case of Brain Issues causing Grumpiness and General Fed Upness but the thought of Christmas is cheering me up.

On that note advent calendar/secret Santa sounds like a brilliant idea! I love the idea of No. 2, I think it would be fun. MrsL are you generously offering to be co-ordinator? I would offer but my memory is terrible at the moment, I'm struggling with the basics let alone the thought of multiple addresses and names Blush Would love to get involved though and already looking through my perfume drawers!

I have (sorry everyone) gone off the PP dupe of By the Fireplace. It's not smoky on me, just the vanilla which is too lingery on me skin. So I have the 30ml bottle looking for a good home if anyone would like it? Or can do decants if a few people haven't got it yet?

Not perfume related but you guys might like anyway, I was lucky enough to be on of the lucky winners of the MN Birchbox competition (which is a real treat for me as I couldn't afford it normally) and have been having a great time with them. A couple of samples are going into my DC's advent calendars, sadly no perfume but fabulous skincare etc. Although I used a charcoal sponge thing on my face before realising it was a body product Grin I hope my face doesn't melt later 😬

Enjoying the Perfumes You Miss Thread elsewhere, I noticed a new Penhaligon's stand in my local beauty hall and wanted to ask why they discontinued Lily and Spice Smile

SOTD is PC UltraViolet, my goodness I love this so much. Not really a winter fragrance but it is gorgeous, especially the drydown. DH said "what sweets are you eating, they smell great" Grin

I hope it's okay to join. Currently in my all time favourite, Paloma Picasso. Always head back to this one. I'm after something I can love just as much. I also like JM Pomegranate Noir, and EL Knowing. I'm wondering what to try next.

MrsLucas · 10/11/2018 10:19

Hey Floof! good to have you and Calm back. We now need Pest, OC, Blue, Green, MrsS*, and others too - we're missing you Sad.

Welcome Fantastique - that list will go down well here - Knowing and Paloma Picasso are some other people's favourites too Smile.

More on the calendar later, but just to say to newer Perfumistas, as well as old lags, you are very welcome to join in. Just let me know if you're in, so we can see how many days are covered.

Looks like Option 2 is in the lead so far, but if there are other views, please shout now! Option 2 would involve swapping a sample or decant with your 'pair' so they can open on their day, and post a short description that will sit behind that day on the calendar window. The calendar will be online so other perfumistas will be be able the door and read about what you opened.

So this works on two levels, those 'in' would have their turn 'opening' on their day and writing a brief description, and everyone gets to click open a door every day and see how this is unfolding, by reading each day's description.

Floof - I'm hoping this could be reasonably straightforward to coordinate if we work in pairs.

If this sounds unhinged please say. Happy to modify or step away if someone has a better plan?
