Morning all! Come and join the gorgeously-scented chat!

Today I smell of lavender, woodsmoke and cinnamon biscuits, in Another Kiss By The Fireside.

I tried Rubies and Diamonds today, on the back of reading these threads. It is stunning! I absolutely love it and would never have tried it. Warm and sweet but not cloying at all.

Fantastiqueangel · 05/12/2018 18:24

Diamonds and Rubies!

Ineedahouse · 05/12/2018 18:32

Hello! Im not sure if I should ask here or start a new thread but I used to really love the jpg fragile perfume- the glittery snowdome bottle one. I dont know if this still sells anywhere or if not if the new jpg one smells similar (the one with legs on top of the bottle).

My real perfume love is the first prada one they did. I guess that means I like strong musky scents? Any tips on fragile much appreciated! 😁

UnnecessaryFennel · 05/12/2018 18:41

There are several on ebay, Ineedahouse, at a variety of price points! I'm afraid I've never sniffed it though so can't comment on its similarity to anything else.

The Hyperbole is lovely. I tore the box getting it open though Sad

Thanks Judy - have always been curious about that, and about saffron notes more generally. Hope the sinuses are better soon.

That's a blow about Friedemodin. Feu Follet is magnificent. (Lots of vintage bottles of Jean Couturier's Coriandre turn up on ebay, which is the nearest thing I've come across (but doesn't match FF's rounded, leathery and fabulousness).

Be careful Koko - yes this is a rapid onset condition. And once you've fallen down the rabbit hole, there's little chance of scrambling back out Grin. Hormonal angle is fascinating?

Have had sad day at work (tears were shed). Now in my pyjamas. Just spotted a delivery card on the mat. It could be the crowdfunder. Is it worth getting dressed again to go next door and collect?

Ineedahouse · 05/12/2018 19:27

Ah i might venture into town and sample the new one then!

I did look at ebay but then I wondered if I would be buying the real thing - I once bought some branded jeans that were definitely not the real thing once I got them so it's made me a bit cautious. Have you got perfumes on ebay ok?

MrsLucas · 05/12/2018 19:30

Glad you like the Hyperbole Fennel. Do you get a cedar note? Not listed, but there is a sharp wood in there?

UnnecessaryFennel · 05/12/2018 19:43

@kokoloco you need to tell us what you've bought! A belated welcome to the rabbit hole Wink

I'm not sure if I get a cedar note MrsL. Cedar is usually very 'pencil shavings' on me (not a bad thing) and I can't locate that at the mo. It's just more that sweetish, slightly viscous (great, accurate description!) tobaccoey vanilla, perhaps with a slight woody edge. I'm looking forward to giving it a proper run-out tomorrow.

The colour is pretty vile, though Grin

Yes, but it adds to the syrupy vibe. Must be dyed that vivid colour on purpose? Adding colour to scents is an interesting thing?

SheHasNotions · 05/12/2018 20:35

I almost, almost just spent £40 on 15mls of Villoresi Teint de Neige, as I am longing for powdery scents at the moment. It was in my basket and my card was in my hand....so close....

But decided I can’t justify it this close to Christmas and have just doused myself in the library of fragrance baby powder.

Damn sensible me! Grin

Calmanddance · 05/12/2018 21:26

I’m very tempted by the Hyperbole. Is it anything like Creamy Vanilla Crumble? They seem to have some notes in common.

I’ve been testing some of my samples in the last few days. cantbelievemyeyes is my advent perfume partner and very kindly sent me a couple of extra samples. One of them was Zadig & Voltaire’s This is Him. I already own This is Her, which I love (chestnut and vanilla), so the other half of the couple was on my wish list to try. It is very different to This is Her, This is Him having a strong black pepper and woods opening, far too strong for me. It then dries down to a long-lasting sandalwood vanilla, pleasant enough but nothing special.

Sorry to hear about your day, MrsL 🙁. I hope you’ve now settled down with the crowdfunded.

I’m enjoying the reviews. Such a good idea!

MrsLucas · 05/12/2018 22:12

Thanks Calm. Have stayed in - so something to look forward to tomorrow. Hyperbole is nothing like CVC on me. (On my skin CVC is pretty much 100% tonka. Hyperbole has a big tobacco note and a balsamic/medicinal quality. From memory, more like the Pirate's Grand whatever (from Atkinsons) (I think)? Happy to send you some to try?

Chestnut notes - that's very festive Smile.

CountFosco · 06/12/2018 05:49

SotD yesterday was CBC which smelt much sweeter and fruitier (and very 4160T) in comparison to the SL Le Participe Passe I had the day before, much more toffee and raspberry (?) and that lovely beeswax in it. Then went to TKMaxx on the way home from work and did a bad thing. Got a MH travel set with 10 mL samples of Tea Tonique, Etui Noir and Vetiver Insolent (obv for me it was the last one that swung it). Had a quick blast of Etui Noir before bed and fell asleep to an Oudy Incense.

UnnecessaryFennel · 06/12/2018 08:05

I would agree, very limited similarity between CVC and Hyperbole. CVC is much more a Tonka bean vanilla while H is a woodier one - it's lighter and 'cleaner' than CVC. I do get the cedar this morning!

Sotd- Dark Rum by Malin and Goetz. It's just a small sample but I've already decided I'm asking for a full bottle for Christmas. It's bloody gorgeous for winter; so lovely and warm.

OutComeTheWolves · 06/12/2018 13:37

Edit: 2 just googled the price of a full bottle. I know dh's budget & I'm not going to be unwrapping that on Christmas morning!

MrsLucas · 06/12/2018 19:45

Love the Shazam! review in the calendar today.

No sign of my crowd funder 9mls? Is anyone else waiting for them or should be worried?

Parcel was a miniature bottle of Chunga (Weil). One of many ebay bargains Ineed. The buyer protection is strong on ebay, and if you stick to relatively low value items you are not very exposed. It helps if you like obscure old stuff, where there isn't a mass market, so not much of an incentive to produce fakes?

Count - try lePP and CbC layered together!

That's reassuring Fennel - couldn't work out what I was smelling from the listed notes.

Love the Shazam review! It was one of the 4160s I didn’t like when I tried, but that was a while ago and I’m tempted to try again off the back of your review cantbelieve.

SOTD was frivolous Britney naughty remix. SOTE is kenzo amour. Needing ‘cosy’ today. Ofsted feedback tomorrow 😬

MrsLucas · 06/12/2018 20:39

Etui Noir always make me wonder how LibertyBlueKittens is? Christmas wishes to you if you're our there, along with Pest and Green, and MrsS. (Not sure who else we've not heard from recently as I'm terrible at keeping track of name changes).
