WWW's six week 10yy boot camp, WEEK SIX June 2007

WideWebWitch · 18/06/2007 07:29

This is week SIX of the fourth boot camp of 2007 , everyone is welcome.

Veils drawn over last week

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

And am loving the sexual tension between the Doc and Jack...

moo · 18/06/2007 14:13

Aha! So this is where you're all hiding

Marina · 18/06/2007 14:14

and discussing the relative merits of quinoa and millet, moo ...of course...

I'm still catching up with the Dr Whos we missed while on holiday (watched the scary scarecrow two parter at the weekend - it made me cry). Which reminds me...the little boy in the scary scarecrow one - what's he been in?

Marina · 18/06/2007 14:18

We missed that due to hols so will need a name moo...Creet this week won his part in Blue Peter and is now the subject of a stalking campaign from a hugely envious and admiring ds...

moo · 18/06/2007 14:19

I can't do the healthy eating bit - I just had leftover lamb from yesterday on a roll with coleslaw, and a bag of crips, and the rest of the Gu choc/orange/almond torte with double cream...

put on 8lbs on holiday and will get back on weightwatchers...oooh...sometime.

Marina · 18/06/2007 14:21

Well I am so peed off about dd's sports day being postponed (so it's raining? again? WTF can't they kayak across the park?) I just ate a small and toothsome danish pastry with pecans in it
But I did trudge for miles in a heavy shower to purchase it...
We are a very forgiving bunch on this thread food-wise - we have to be

moo · 18/06/2007 14:24

He is www.talentedbritishactors.co.uk/thomass.html this boy - Thomas Sangster. Maybe I remember him from Love Actually. Oh it was a really good two parter, Marina - it's a shame you missed it.

Marina · 18/06/2007 14:41

We will no doubt be buying the special edition DVD boxed set in the shape of Captain Jack's posing pouch as soon as it is issued, so we will catch up then moo. I rarely see a whole episode at time of transmission due to having to divert keen and far too young dd from all the excitement

Marina · 18/06/2007 14:42

Thomas was excellent in Nanny Macphee but somehow I suspect you have not seen that one

Well if that is so then it should be a "baseline" interview, no? If they have not been clear about what will be discussed how can you or your appraiser have possibly prepared for this in a meaningful fashion (on second thoughts don't answer, you have alluded to negative aspects of your workplace before now).
Performance reviews are at best a waste of time and at worst a total car-crash if the scheme is not properly thought-through and implemented

I will sneak back in for this week I think. Dh likely to be away which makes healthy eating so much easier for some reason .

I seem to have lost about 1.5kg but goodness knows how!

I have a shedload of gooseberries so if any of you know any recipes that don't involve adding pints of cream (like gooseberry fools yum!), I'd appreciate them!

WideWebWitch · 18/06/2007 20:44

lol at sobernow's description of LA. I hope the appraisal went well. Moo, yes, he was from Nanny McPhee, have you seen it? lovely film. The Dr Who Blink episode is a treat and agree with everyone about Dr Who (except person who doesn't get it, Prufrock I think) esp sexual tension between Dr and Jack.

Not a great day tbh
granola, good
bacon sandwich, bad
apple
100g lentils with capers, chilli and garlic (both lazy types)
some goji berries, walnuts, brazils and pine nuts
grapes
and about to have some fishfingers
no wine
2 poor Quality Stleft over from father's day

Feel grotty and fat etc but came in and had bath and cuddled children which helped enormously.

So, is it jsut the 3 of us? Shall we postpone/rearrange? I don't mind either way.

I need to start walking again, I haven't done for ages and it shows. Well done all of you who are keeping it up.

Good luck with the performance review tomorrow Sobernow.

Marina You're spot on with this. "Performance reviews are at best a waste of time and at worst a total car-crash if the scheme is not properly thought-through and implemented". I have to admit to finding it hard to correctly fill out the self assessment and training plan for the following year when real work keeps streaming through the door. I haven't had a review for 9 mths or more but it's scheduled for Weds. My boss has been saying "Next week" since April or so and even he has got fed up with saying it! He says that he is happy with my work, though, but is worried about the heavy workload so I need to plan for it to get the best from it. Sometimes I do have peaks of work and it's hard to deal with that.

I got on the scales today. I'm about 10 3/4 stone - about 1 more than last year. Big ooops. I must pack a swimsuit and stuff and keep them in the car and go swimming whenever there is an opportunity. I must look at my diet, too. I did more or less give up wine in the week as a result of this thread for a while and I need to do it again. I'll start now. This thread helps me to be motivated. Off to bed!

glitterfairy · 19/06/2007 07:30

Good luck today Sobernow.

Need to make being virtuous a lifestyle today as I keep falling off the wagon at the moment. I bought some nice clothes which dont quite fit me to inspire me so will concentrate on getting into them.

tigermoth · 19/06/2007 07:43

Hello everyone, am joining in this thread. Have just started swimming in the outdoor (unheated) lido again. Went 3 times last week. 21 degrees so not half as cold as I'd expected. Am trying to gear myself up to go again this morning before work.

When is the doctor who/captain jack episode repeated? think it's thursday. Was otherwise engaged on Sat night Dr Who by torchlight sounds fun. Perhaps an idea for a next mumsnet meet.....

tortoiseSHELL · 19/06/2007 08:43

Good luck sobernow!

Next Monday batters I hope. Dr Who was repeated again Sunday night and hopefully will be again this week, not sure when.
This morning's Respect award, with a hefty dollop of , goes to Tigermoth. I know the pool well and I bet it is wonderful there first thing and almost deserted How to dive in and make a splash at boot camp, welcome
Simplysparkling, every year I have to make a very clunky and bureaucratic review process appealing to my team of anarchists and sceptics so I have considerable experience earned the hard way of making the process as user-friendly and constructive as possible [arrrgggghhh] emoticon needed here
Your experiences sound familiar sobernow, I cannot imagine why - hope the experience triumphs over the expectation somehow...
WWW I may be keeping up the walking but healthy eating has slipped a bit - amazing how a holiday and a couple of out of synch grocery orders wrecks your careful plans. We will get there, I know it

foxinsocks · 19/06/2007 11:45

batters, have consulted those who cook more than me and apparently gooseberry jam and gooseberry chutney are the way to go (think I'll try the jam - have never made jam before!).

PS how is club penguin going? my two were very excited yesterday and as they wanted to report someone, the little snitches!
