Going to Italy for a week in August.

I've got:
one playsuit
a pair of denim shorts
a black sundress
a red sundress
a denim midi skirt
a 'dressy' dress
t-shirts
a couple of boho-ish cotton blouses to wear with shorts or the denim skirt
What else do I need? Struggling to find any nice cotton dresses. Assume I'll need either another pair of shorts or another playsuit maybe?

Thanks. :)

We are going to lakes in Italy August. Only 6 days -It will be shorts, maxi skirt, cotton summer knee length dress, cotton maxi dress , at least one other dress because I can’t pack light, something nice to wear out with my dh for our anniversary. Tees, shirts, Cardys. Possibly trousers as I hate being cold. I will have a 10 week old though so bf friendly and very practical!

Sirmione is on the list.

I bought a cheap M&S bardot dress, but it's viscose so may be a bit warm for day time. Looks pretty nice with sandals, trainers and espadrilles.

And Desenzano is beautiful.

You can get the boat over to Sirmione from Desenzano.

I will be found in the bar chugging back Aperol Spritz wearing a fabulous hat and shades and people watching.

Love that dress

poppym12 · 23/07/2018 23:01

I was in italy a couple of weeks ago, as far south as you can get on the mainland before falling off.

I'd say ditch the denim as its HOT.

calzone · 23/07/2018 23:08

I’ve got 3

One which is cream and orange and wide brimmed and floppy.
A similar one in grey and white.

A cheapie one from Primark for £2

I love a hat.

calzone · 23/07/2018 23:09

Come and find me in Desenzano and we can chug away.

If you are self catering, there’s a huge supermarket called Leone. ‘‘Tis fab.

Just back from Florence and Venice, if you go in any churches or similar, they insist on covered knees and shoulders. If you go in a vest top say, you'll have to buy a shawl for 2.5 euros to be permitted entry.
It's very hot and humid over there (much like here) but you have to love the hotel air con. I wish my flat had air con!
Trainers are vital if you're walking around seeing sights, particularly if you're climbing up anything.

teta · 23/07/2018 23:18

I Would buy that’s dress too, if I didn’t already have several already. It’s a beauty.

timeisnotaline · 24/07/2018 00:12

That dress looks like it would be great for one body type -slim hipped long bodied surely?

scatteredglitter · 24/07/2018 04:06

Don't bring denim anything !
Just back from Italy it s s so hot !
I wore
Sundresses (gap, Abercrombie, Zara, new look)
Skirts - oasis have cute ones in their sale
Bermuda shorts - h and m
Cotton shorts - h and m

I also bought 2 sundresses in Rome ;-)
And some fabulous belts :)

It sas way too hot for denim anything even in the evenings.

Sandals flip flops and luckily I escaped the mozzies

Off shoulder cotton dress here

holycityzoo · 24/07/2018 09:57

Poppy that's where my family are from. It is hotter than fires of hell at this time of year!
Lots of wafty cotton things definitely no denim.

KaliforniaDreamz · 24/07/2018 11:32

I am 30f and wear a beandeau jumpsuit (or dress) with that wonderbra strapless bra. the one with the plastic moulding within rather than wire. the sizing is useless on them tho so you will go much larger than your proper (think Rigby peller sizing) size.

for wafty comfort i've bought a few of these from amazon and they're great and dry in minutes.

@scatteredglitter what is the abercrombie sizing like? That lace pieced one is lovely , but s m l sold out.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2018 14:55

The A&F dresses are lovely, but I don't think my bust will fit in them. Tried a Fat Face one on today and the 14 didn't zip up but a 16 would have been too big everywhere else.

Lake Garda won’t be as hot as southern Italy. I think the cotton sundresses you are looking at are just right - as others have commented about the churches - just put a little cover up or scarf in your bag.

Can I recommend a folding umbrella? My experience of Italian lakes is that there can be some spectacular thunder storms - it clouds up around late afternoon - amazing thunderstorm then beautiful again the next day.

Where are you staying? You can go to Venice and Verona on the train from Dezenzano (2 hours to Venice). Milan also but I don’t recommend in August (sorry this is S&B not travel but I love Italian Lakes!)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/07/2018 09:31

Thanks. I still haven't bought any dresses though. I've got one, plus another that I may or may not be able to fasten! Am going to try the black OB one on, because it's the only thing I've seen that I love.

I don't imagine we'll be going into many/any churches.

We're staying in Garda - you can get a bus to Verona. Will definitely be packing an umbrella - I'm English! Grin
