Going to Italy for a week in August.

I've got:
one playsuit
a pair of denim shorts
a black sundress
a red sundress
a denim midi skirt
a 'dressy' dress
t-shirts
a couple of boho-ish cotton blouses to wear with shorts or the denim skirt
What else do I need? Struggling to find any nice cotton dresses. Assume I'll need either another pair of shorts or another playsuit maybe?

Thanks. :)

I like Cos but most of their dresses and skirts are far too long for me.

Take a massive lightweight scarf; it will keep you warm on the plane and anywhere overly airconditioned, and you can use it to cover up if you visit a church or shrine.

Accessorize is good for hats. You can check online if there's one at your airport, where the prices are slightly reduced.

I'm not sure that they are in anyway stylish but I got a pair of navy culottes from next. They are jersey and quite long, as I hate my legs and I'm very self conscious about my weight gain. I thought they'd be hideous but I wore them loads in Italy and indeed since I got home. I'm not usually a next shopper but I like them, they are comfy and quite flattering even on me and I'm short.

The main thing missing for me is some cover for arms and shoulders. Not just for churches. I've never been to the lakes but I've been in Italy a few times in August and the sun is pitiless no matter how good your tolerance.

It may just be me but I don't bother taking 'evening' clothes any more because we never go back to change. We always suddenly realise we're starving and find somewhere to eat / drink wherever we happen to be.

That said, I really like the Oliver Bonas dress and think it would be more versatile when you get back from holiday.

Have you looked at Warehouse? They’ve got quite a few 100% cotton dresses in this season.

secure-www.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?cid=1013327&pcid=57372&vid=1&pid=000336339000

this just arrived tucked inside a massive kids' clothes order and it is very flattering. i got a petite size S (i'm 5'2 and size 10)
so a regular XS might fit if you are similar proportions.TBH i think i'd prefer it a bit longer anyway.

I too was eaten alive from 3pm in Francce. Oil based suncream works well as the feckers cannot get their proboscus in.

Completely agree about Warehouse - their clothes are often vg quality.
Having said that i have just had a jumspuit rip after one wear. But that may have been more about my dancing than the jumpsuit.

that 3rd dress i saw on a woman walking down the street and it looked fabuous, really classic lines etc.

Thanks all.

I've got a chambray shirt, which is quite light if arm covering is needed and a v light kimono thing. Can't imagine we'll be going into churches much though, to be honest.

Not a fan of any of those Warehouse dresses - I don't like blue (although like the navy dress other than the fact it's blue), and that check one would be a disaster on me. I've got a black maxi dress but feel like a fat Greek widow in it, so doubt I'll be taking it.

Oh and I'll only be taking one 'evening' dress, largely because it's beautiful and I don't very often get chance to wear it!

Sorry but I really don't like that jumpsuit thing - I'd look like a sack of spuds in it.

You're 5'2" aren't you? I've just got this from Zara. It's super soft linen, not scratchy at all. I'm 5'2" and it's on my knee. The neckline and sleeves are perfect. I ordered a medium based on what their size guide said but I'd say I should have gone for a small looking at how the model looks. Having said that I would be keeping it because I like the baggy look if it wasn't for the lack of pockets and more annoyingly the belt is attached at the back, I'd rather use a proper belt. I was looking for a work dress and this was a bit short but it would be lovely for a holiday.

What I've actually bought is this for work. Pockets and I'm getting a green belt from Topshop. It's mid calf on me at the moment, I might get it shortened so it's the same length on me as the model.

I like both of those dresses, Count, but they're not what I'm after. I want an old fashioned 'sundress' style, with a proper waist. Might have to bite the bullet and try the Oliver Bonas one on!

Atalune - that's nice, but is it poly? I'm 34FF, so can't really do strapless.

Also, don't buy that bloody Next linen dress that keeps getting recommended on here, I keep seeing overweight women in it and it looks really frumpy, pick something more fun. I do like these shorts. Linen viscose blend, much cooler than denim shorts.

Completely get what you mean about getting tops to go with skirts. I have an awesome midi skirt from Sainsbos but only have one COS top that looks amazing with it.

I won't be buying the linen dress - the style does nothing for me, and I hate linen. Those shorts are quite nice, but I still hate linen!

It’s cotton! Wears/feels lovely.

Is strapless an option bra wise? Or you could get some thick shoulder straps sewn on, dead easy £10 max, and if you’re shortish then get the legs loped off and use that material.

Are you open to fitted cropped trousers? They are versatile, you can usually find them in decent cotton (M&S usually have them) and they are good for petite people. They are good for a smarter daytime look and you could wear them for evening with your silk cami.

Is one of the dresses at least midi length? So much easier to swan around without worrying about legs!

Are you going to Lake Garda?

We are going for 2 weeks on the 4th.

Yes - a week in LG.

One of the dresses is midi length. I want at least one more midi one - sleeveless. And another pair of shorts.

Don't really fancy cropped fitted trousers - feel warm just contemplating them.

I went to H&M and bought some of the cheap bardot dresses.

Also a White linen dress for the lake.

Definitely take a sun hat. Big brimmed.

Make sure you go to Sirmione. Beautiful.
