I get the impression that the York sisters are very much on board with the idea of being in the public eye. As a PP said, they are adult women. It makes the whole pantomime even less worthwhile when they flaunt their privilege wealth and superiority whilst doing so bloody little except dress up court publicity yet whine about the press being critical of them.

Clionba · 15/08/2018 09:44

Agreed. They seem harmless and well intentioned, if a bit clueless and lacking in self reflection. They're not young girls, but adult women who should have long been independent. It seems they're being driven by their parents' ambition and going along with the whole "princess" status and lifestyle.

ajandjjmum · 15/08/2018 09:53

But they are the only blood princesses! Grin

Sadly they seem to have done little except turn up for the odd balcony appearance and garden party. They seem to have done little to portray themselves in a positive way, ie. quietly supporting charities they believe in etc.

Although I'm sure they're perfectly pleasant girls, I don't think the public relate to them as members of the Royal Family, as they have never done anything to earn their place (other than having the (mis) fortune to be born to Andrew and Fergie).

tenredthings · 15/08/2018 10:03

Meghan seems to choose styles which take the attention off her jawline with either boat necks or the shirt dress with oversized collar. It's clever styling.

Watchingtheworldgoby · 15/08/2018 10:21

I think Meghan’s jawline is a good feature. Nothing worse than weak chins imo.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/08/2018 10:29

Apparently Sarah Ferguson still has a strong “fashion” influence over the girls.

I just think those parental apron strings need to be cut. All very well being great co-parents but those girls come acrosss as teenagers to me, aged 18-20, with their looks; styling and attitude.

I read somewhere that Beatrice lives in New York.
I would think she is just a letterhead for publicity for her company.
I just think it is pathetic how they are being used by Andrew to get a larger royal role.
They are already rich. I would really like to see them doing some actual work.

Watchingtheworldgoby · 15/08/2018 10:33

Curly you have hit the nail on the head. They do come across as tenyears younger than they are. Even talking about sisterhood and arguing in their recent interview seemed so odd given their ages.

Clionba · 15/08/2018 10:38

That came across in the Vogue interview, they sounded like teens. They've hired a stylist for each occasion, using someone who charges £1,500 per day. They need to wind it back a bit imo.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2018 10:39

Meghan definitely has style - she managed to make a simple blue and white striped shirt look effortlessly stylish when she attended Wimbledon, and that McQueen tuxedo suit she wore back in February was so chic.

Clionba · 15/08/2018 11:03

Yes, I think she's very stylish. She's comfortable in her own skin, and knows what suits her. She's worn some lovely, elegant and chic outfits, she's not copying Kate or anyone. She could so easily be a fashion victim!

Watchingtheworldgoby · 15/08/2018 11:20

I guess Meghan has been exposed to people from all different walks of life, different styles, different trends and just more experience in life in general. Working on tv surrounded by stylists who were not afraid to take risks and had no need to conform, photo shoots, red carpets, and crucially being with people who were not afraid to tell her honestly without fear of being fired, what suited and didn’t suit her, will have rubbed off on her greatly.

The royal (women) went to all girls schools where they mixed with people and families of a certain background only. I also imagine that peers at school may have looked up to them and copied them which combined would have increased their confidence even further leading them to have a rather distorted view of themselves.

user1457017537 · 15/08/2018 11:21

The York sisters should get their money back from their stylist. I agree MM is very stylish but her outfits are all very expensive, including the striped shirt for Wimbledon.

Clionba · 15/08/2018 11:29

Watchingtheworldgoby those are very valid points, and it really is significant that Meghan has had to make her own way, and hasn't been raised in such a sheltered, supported and privileged way. She'll have liked clothes that she couldn't afford and also had mates to say "no, that doesn't look good" and not gone to pieces over it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2018 11:39

But also, have you ever seen the photos of posh weddings in magazines like Tatler? The bride usually looks lovely but the guests wear some awful clothes! There were maybe 2 good outfits among the guests at Pippa's wedding. The upper classes either don't care too much about what they wear or have terrible taste! The likes of Kitty Spencer seem to be in the minority.

I wonder if Meghan has taken on board the criticisms about the cost of her outfits? She was wearing a Club Monaco dress the last time we saw her and although that isn't a cheap brand (on par with the likes of Whistles) it is far from designer.

Oh look, Bea and Euj about how to dress for a wedding... Grin

A colleague of mine was one of the tartan-trewed guests at Pippa's wedding- he was on the front of the Daily Mail ffs!

Clionba · 15/08/2018 11:46

"It was a themed wedding, the theme was money" GrinGrin
I just love The Windsors. So cutting, but so funny.

Watchingtheworldgoby · 15/08/2018 11:53

May er she was very aware that if she turned up in a ££££ dress, it may have cost more than the bride’s dress and taken attention away from the bride.

Another thought struck me that maybe she listens rather than assuming she knows more than other people.

As for the wedding guests on Tatler, I’d say they do care what they wear. And they don’t have taste. That is just my opinion. In the suburbs of the nearest city to me, are small and very expensive boutiques. They are filled with heavily embellished, overly patterned and OTT clothes. Eg why have a small button when they can put on cameo buttons/why have three quarter length sleeves when they can add a ruffle to the bottom of them. They are not to my taste (or bank balance) but they stay in business. Many people think expensive equals better.

Kitty Spencer, like Meghan was, is exposed to stylists from all different walks of life. That is her trade, her world just as it once was Meghan. If they had any interest in clothes. they would have learned so much.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2018 12:08

@TheCraicDealer so was a distant cousin of mine when Michael Middleton walked her up the aisle and Kate and Pippa attended her wedding! Knew I should've kept in touch with that branch of the family...

QueenOfTheAndals I think it's essential that you get in touch with that side of the family and rekindle your relationships!! Take chocolates and expensive wine! We're relying on you to be our insider!! Grin

VanillaSugar · 15/08/2018 16:37

Bea & Eug went to Marlborough which is very much co ed - it used to be a boys school as well as Kate's alma mater. So I don't think the school had any influence on their dress style Grin

PodgeHog · 15/08/2018 16:55

I think only Eug went to Marlborough - Beatrice was at an all girls school in Ascot and I think usually Eug looks a bit better. Not always - maybe she is naturally a bit more photogenic.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2018 17:16

I think Lady Louise is now at the same school Beatrice went to.

I think Pippa middleton looks so drab these days, what's happened to her? Her skin looks dingy and her hair just hangs around her face. Her clothes look ill fitting and she always looks miserable. I wonder what on earth she does all day - seems to spend her life wandering around town, often with a dog in tow. All the life seems to have gone out of her since she got married.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2018 17:57

Pippa is pregnant so perhaps she's not feeling well, given the recent hot weather.
