I didn't know she'd lost her sister. How sad. I did read recently that her sister (could've been that one or another) dated Prince Albert of Monaco at one time.

Her sister Paloma commited suicide (as did Queen Maxima's sister, Ines, recently).
I saw the pictures from the funeral which I thought were very intrusive as Letizia was clearly distraught.

So many suicides, how tragic

Paradyning · 11/08/2018 15:37

I didn't know that about Leti. How awful. She's must have been very heavily pregnant at the time

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/08/2018 10:35

Talk that doria may move to London. Apparently shes had security since November. That's good to hear. I always thought she looked so.alone

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/08/2018 10:37

That'd be nice for Meghan but I guess anyone could say "a friend" told them xyz! Her mum seemed lovely though, and such a contrast to her dreadful father and half-siblings.

I see the father is back spouting rubbish to the press again.

VanillaSugar · 12/08/2018 15:27

He's going to end up in a nasty accident if he isn't careful.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/08/2018 15:40

Thomas Markle is useful to make Meghan Look good ( in comparison).
Otherwise the press would have to find another villain. ( Usually good duchess Kate vs new duchess Meghan.) Also fills the paper during August. The “ hanging up the phone on Prince Harry” story must have been stored up since May.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/08/2018 15:44

I'm surprised the media haven't gone all out with comparisons a la Di and Fergie in the 80s, but I guess the differences between Kate and Meghan are not so stark - both are attractive and well-dressed, which was the basis used for the Di vs Fergie comparisons.

MMs dad isn’t giving up anytime soon is he. I was shocked he hadn’t received an invitation, even as a keepsake, and I don’t believe he had been fitted for a morning suit to attend as normally one is measured!

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/08/2018 15:03

The Brits have been out and about at Balmoral. I thought for a moment Beatrice was wearing the Sorting Hat from the Harry Potter films but it's just the rear view mirror merging with her hat!

Andrew is a miserable looking bigger, isn't he?

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/08/2018 15:49

Lady Louise looks straight out of a Mallory Towers or St Clare's story with the plaits and gym kit!

susurration · 13/08/2018 18:35

Beatrice looks a lot like Fergie in that photo, I thought that's who it was at first. Andrew looks like an undertaker, miserable sod.

Laiste · 14/08/2018 09:07

This thread has moved a fair way beyond who's shoes looked good with their hand bag at the weekend.

I'm slightly surprised we haven't been told off yet! Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/08/2018 09:32

Well to be fair to us, August is a slow month for royal fashion as they all go on holiday!

Article here on Elisabeth of Belgium's style. Though I disagree that Mathilde is one of the most stylish European royals - like Kate, she always looks appropriate, but stylish she is not!

OP posts:
Clionba · 15/08/2018 09:08

Yes, QueenOfTheAndals, being smart and appropriate isn't the same as stylish, is it? Elisabeth looks lovely, but she's only 16 and is probably finding her style. Princess Anne is 68 today! Probably trudging across a Highland Moor as we speak. I'm seeing an awful lot of articles and features on the Yorks - they're really promoting themselves and the wedding, aren't they?

VanillaSugar · 15/08/2018 09:18

That's because Prince Andrew knows as soon as the Queen dies, he's toast. He's trying to make his girls relevant so that they can keep the £££££££££. I feel sorry for the girls. Just let them be and let them have a life.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2018 09:19

Now Elisabeth's grandmother Paola, she was stylish! As well as being a stunning beauty.

Totally agree. Being groomed and appropriate does not equal stylish. In fact I think style is something you have to take risks to achieve. You will get it wrong sometimes, but as long as you don’t follow fashion trends, chances are you will be stylish more than fashionable. It is as much about attitude to clothes than the clothes themselves. You have to enjoy getting dressed in them. This is obviously the case with the more stylish royals and obviously not the case with others. Kate is an example of someone who gives the impression she does not know much or care much about them once she is appropriately dressed.

Clionba · 15/08/2018 09:25

I agree, VanillaSugar it's definitely a promotional strategy. They'll definitely not have a high profile when Charles takes over. Good point about just letting the daughters get on with their lives. Eugenie is going for a big royal wedding, but she'd be better off with a more modest affair. I saw Sarah Ferguson on The One Show, and found her embarrassing.

Clionba · 15/08/2018 09:28

Wow, QueenOfTheAndals! Paola was stylish, very elegant.
Watchingtheworldgoby that's a very good point about style. It's finding your own look, not playing it too safe, and not following every fashion trend. Kate falls into the first category, the York sisters fall into the second.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2018 09:32

I agree that the Yorks' sudden visibility is Andrew's doing but really, Beatrice and Eugenie aren't children - they're 28 and 30. I'm sure if they objected to it they'd say so, but clearly they don't. They seem harmless enough young, if a bit clueless about their privilege, but the overpromotion is getting embarrassing now. They could do worse than take a leaf out of Aunt Anne's book and keep a low profile while just getting on with their lives!
