If all of these rumours were true there would be a very small handful of legitimate members of the RF! Grin

Clionba · 10/08/2018 21:27

QM and Princess Margaret were legitimate. They were the children of Bertie and Elizabeth, they just (according to this evidence) needed help to conceive.
Medical records showed both David and Bertie had mumps which may or may not be a factor.

Clionba · 10/08/2018 21:28

Edward and Sophie's children are theirs, and legitimate, they just needed assisted conception.

Edward and Sophie? IVF

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/08/2018 22:28

@VanillaSugar If the bearding stories are true then possibly!

@Clionba I think mumps can render men sterile, so if that had been the case then even artificial insemination wouldn't have helped in Bertie's case.

Good point @QueenOfTheAndals, although I have come across cases where fertility was reduced rather than destroyed. Also other side effects, which may have meant it was a necessary but potentially successful procedure.

Paradyning · 10/08/2018 22:42

There was a thing once about the QM having a son who was severely disabled and institutionalised. It came from someone who worked at Westminster. I've never heard it before or since. So who knows

Paradyning · 10/08/2018 22:42

Not be confused with her cousins.

Paradyning · 10/08/2018 22:46

Ooo yes i did hear it from another source too about 6 years later when I worked with a lady who was good friends with the Bowes Lyons in the NE England

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/08/2018 22:54

Never heard that @Paradyning but of course back in those days it would've been easier to hide a pregnancy or spirit away a child. Certainly no one had ever heard of those cousins of the queen until much much later. I think one of them only died relatively recently. And it's not like the royals haven't hidden away disabled family members before - look at poor Prince John.

Much as I hate to spoil the party, I really don't think Lady Colin Campbell is a reliable source of all this gossip Sad

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/08/2018 23:02

She's about as reliable as Kitty Kelley, whose book on the royals is still banned in the U.K!

I understood that the QM and her husband only had 2 children because she had c-sections for both and in those days it was considered too dangerous to have any more so they could not have more children.

Moononthehill28 · 10/08/2018 23:13

Ah yes! But how else would you avoid pregnancy than abstinence in those days?

Clionba · 10/08/2018 23:18

Lady CC - she was the one making the "Cookie" claims, or the ones about a disabled son? What did Kitty Kelley say?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/08/2018 23:26

Apparently Lady CC was the first to break the story of Charles & Diana’s unhappy marriage pre Andrew Morton

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/08/2018 23:27

Lady Colin makes the Cookie allegation. I can't remember a huge amount about Kelley's book but I think she mentions it too, along with the artificial insemination story, and Prince Phillip's dalliances. IIRC, she even alleges that he had flings with men when he was very young!

The son story may be complete BS but I heard it from 2 separate sources years apart. Interesting to think of a SEN king though. Might be utter fantasy.

Anyway love this dress CP Mary is wearing!

Letizia has been out and about too. I love this skirt. She and Felipe also met the new Spanish Prime Minister, who is very easy on the eye!

Clionba · 11/08/2018 08:07

I'm not keen on Letizia's outfit, I think the orange is too strong. She usually gets it right, as does Mary. Both very elegant, like Rania. I agree about the Spanish PM! Hola!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/08/2018 08:44

Letitzia’s blue floral,skirt is gorgeous.
Do not like it with the sleeveless orange jumper and what looks like black 0latform sandals. Crisp white shirt, blue heeled pumps; job done

Watchingtheworldgoby · 11/08/2018 10:02

I LOVE Letizia’s skirt and the orange top with it. She has superbly toned arms. How much time must she spend in the gym or probably her personal trainer.

Clionba · 11/08/2018 10:55

Letizia is looking far more healthy and fit nowadays. A few years ago she was very thin, she'd lost her sister and there must have been huge pressures assuming the throne. Nice to see her looking so well.
