Princess Alexandra (Ogilvy) is a first cousin of the Queen and since her mother was a first cousin of the Prince Philip, she is also his first cousin once removed.

That’s keeping it in the family.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/07/2018 14:31

Apparently Ava Gardner was also one of his old flames and when she died there was a wreath of flowers signed "with love from Philip".

Oooh, QueenOfTheAndals - I'm just loving all this gossip - you seem in the know - have you thought about writing a book??

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/07/2018 16:28

I have no idea how I know all this as I don't even subscribe to Hello!

The mystery of how Kate and Meghan don't sink into the grass when walking in their heels is solved!

I used to live in Teddington and Paul Mowatt was a regular at the Tide End Pub. I remember the wedding and thinking that Marina was being a bit of an arse. Since the divorce, Paul iwas regularly to be seen muttering into a pint "I married a Princess and I still ain't got no fecking money." Everyone hates him.

Paradyning · 30/07/2018 17:12

There's a hilarious clip on twitter of MM walking in her heels at the polo. Will try to find it!

VanillaSugar · 30/07/2018 17:35

I had the most vivid dream the Prince Philip died last night. In my dream (or was it real?) a Breaking News flashed up to say that he had died. I kept waking up in the night (both in my dream and in reality) to check to see if the full news story had hit the BBC website. I then got angry that HMTQ was still in Balmoral. I actually woke up (in RL) to check the news and was v confused that it's such a slow news day.

I'm too over-invested in this thread, aren't I?! Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/07/2018 21:16

Last week there were rumours on Twitter that he'd died. Unfounded of course. He'll probably live to 200!

If he did die (or Liz died) how soon would the world find out about it?

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/07/2018 22:33

I would say pretty quickly. I don't think they delayed the announcement when under queen mum died.

OP posts:
Clionba · 30/07/2018 23:27

Both deaths would be announced straight away. Charles would make sure of that.

Watchingtheworldgoby · 31/07/2018 00:40

Poor Charles playing a very long waiting game while William is snapping at his heels........

Why doesn’t the Queen hand it over to him and when he reaches a certain age, he will pass to William......

For all the talk of how much he doesn’t want it, William is not going to let it go either......

ajandjjmum · 31/07/2018 03:06

I suspect both Charles and William don't feel they have a choice.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 31/07/2018 06:15

This has been shared on another thread before, but this is a fascinating report of what will happen when The Queen dies. I found it so interesting!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 31/07/2018 06:42

That was chilling but fascinating reading.
I think given the Queen mothers longevity we’re expecting her to go on till past 100. However, given her emotional dependence on Philip, I don’t think she will outlast him by long. You hear about very old couples who die close together... Anyway, horrible to think about..

QueenOfTheAndals · 31/07/2018 07:10

@Watchingtheworldgoby The UK doesn't have the tradition of abdication that say, the Netherlands, does. And anyway, Charles is getting a bit long in the tooth himself - if QEII was going to abdicate in his favour then she'd have done it a while ago.

WipsGlitter · 31/07/2018 07:28

I don't think William wants s to be King. I think he'd be happy pootling about in the countryside.

Quantumblue · 31/07/2018 07:30

She will not abdicate, I am sure. It is the combination of her having him young and living so long that has put Charles in this position. It is going to be deeply upsetting when she goes.

Clionba · 31/07/2018 07:41

HM will just gradually do less and less - it's happening already - and go into a gentle retirement. She'll never abdicate (it's a dirty word to her) but Charles has more of her responsibilities now, as do William and Harry. Eventually she'll be Queen in name only, Charles effectively regent. She's almost permanently at Windsor now, less and less at BP.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 31/07/2018 09:23

Yes aged 92, I think being retired is long overdue.
Given the longevity of the windsors, I don't think we are going to have a young monarch for many generations bar a tragic accident. William will probably be in his 60s when he becomes king. We will have a good 20 years of Charles and Camilla.

ajandjjmum · 31/07/2018 09:37

That's a really interesting article ItsNice.

Clionba · 31/07/2018 09:42

The renovations at BP are also a signal of change. HM didn't want the upheaval, but now she lives at Windsor Castle and Charles is having his input. There is a seamless handover in place.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 31/07/2018 11:28

@Clionba
That's interesting about the renovations at BP.
I guess Prince Charles will move from Clarence House and St James Palace and consolidate everything at BP.

KP seems to be the headquarters of the young royals. Apparently Harry & Meghan will get the Gloucester's old apartment.

I've heard about loads of houses the sussexes have been given / rented. There was one report about one in the cotswolds near Soho farmhouse; another on the sandringham estate and yet another in Windsor great park. Bizarre.

Prince Charles will have so many homes. Maybe one day Harry will inherit highgrove, as William will get Sandringham. Prince Andrew, Princess Anne & Prince Edward i.think only have one house each plus apartments in Buckingham palace or St James palace.

Watchingtheworldgoby · 31/07/2018 14:05

Itsnice I just had a chance to read your link. Utterly fascinating!
