Well I think running away 3 times is pretty categorical about ending the relationship. I wonder what gold they had over her (prior to the twins arriving)

She lived with him. They were together from 2006 so plenty of time for her to figure out that this relationship was quite likely to end up with a massive high-profile wedding to a prince (of sorts), the eyes of the world on her and a lifetime cloistered in a palace.

Maybe she found out something about him shortly before the wedding that put her off.

Didn't she only find out about one (or was it both?) of his illegitimate kids just before the wedding? I can imagine that would've been a nasty shock if he hadn't told her after 5 years together.

I thought there were rumours of a third child that surfaced just before the wedding. I believe the existence of the others was old news.

Apparently Albert used to date Letizia's sister!

Albert's daughter Jazmin-Grace (a name MN would surely frown at!) styles herself as a singer/model/actress and is dating the son of John Cougar Mellencamp. She seems to have a fairly good relationship with her father. Albert has a teenage son too but it doesn't look like they're close.

Illegitimacy doesn't seem to be a big deal in Monaco - Albert's grandmother was illegitimate, Stephanie has had 3 children out of wedlock and Charlotte is soon to have 2. Quite refreshing that they're so relaxed about it - who can remember the scandal here in the 90s when Marina Ogilvy became pregnant by her then-boyfriend?

Albert's grandmother, Princess Charlotte, sounds like a real character. Especially renouncing her throne to her son, getting a social work degree and turning her estate into a rehab for ex convicts, where she lived with her lover Rene, a former jewel thief.

The Ogilvy issue threatened to blow Philip shagging Alexandra out of he shadows. Marina threatened to expose it all and suddenly her issues went away. Allegedly.

What were Marina's issues? Princess Marina or Marina Ogilvy?

I had no idea Marina Ogilvy was going to expose Princess Alexandra & Prince Phillip. The Queen is way too tolerant of Phillip; no wonder she couldn't understand why Diana didn't like Charles having a mistress.

I know there's been gossip Curly about Philip, but as far as I am aware, this has never been substantiated?

Good point about Marina Ogilvy and the pregnancy. I still can't believe how shocking that was, as you say, it wasn't exactly the 1950s!

There's no smoke without fire. Even the Crown showed that the Queen tacitly accepted Phillip's affairs. I also read once he didn't sleep.with her for 9 years, over the Mountbatten surname; hence the huge gap between Anne and Andrew.

I think Phillip's current mistress is carriage driving partner Penny Romsey. I guess it will.all be published once the Queen has popped her clogs.

Wasn't it as much the chap she was with, who was a drug taker, that caused the issue? TBF, most of us as parents - all these years later - probably wouldn't be too thrilled about that.

But The Crown (although I love it!) is not historically accurate - much of it is supposition. May be true, but no-one knows the facts.

@Paradyning, that reminds me a bit of the Paul Burrell case. It's easy to dismiss him as a fantasist but I find it a bit suspicious that it wasn't until he hinted at revealing certain things Diana had told him that the Queen "remembered" she'd given him all that stuff for safekeeping.

That was a strange case, wasn't it? The whole court case was dropped because the Queen suddenly remembered a conversation!

Queen If that is coded I dread to think what they say if they have actual evidence. I think the Queen has always turned a blind eye. No wonder three out of four of their children’s marriages ended as they did.
