Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

For an amusing contrast, have a look at the photos of QEII next to Felipe of Spain when he last visited. She only comes up about his waist!

I'd be interested to know what happens to the cambridge title when William and Kate become P & P of Wales. Does George get it? What about Louis. Normally the 2nd son of a monarch gets the Duke of York title. There's not many Dukedoms left. I think the newest one was Edinburgh created for Prince Philip, which is earmarked for Edward.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/06/2018 13:09

I would say meghan is about 5'5" and about 53kg.

List of titles and honours of Charles, Prince of Wales - Wikipedia
en.m.wikipedia.org › wiki › List_...
The Prince's full style and title is: His Royal Highness Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales, KG, KT, GCB, OM, AK, QSO, CC, PC, ADC, Earl of Chester, Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland.

Based on this I guess he become Prince of Wales, Duke of Cambridge etc.

Guess George will inherit one of those after Gramps dies?

I was just looking for a photo of QEII beside Felipe and found this. Absolutely love Letizia’s outfit here.

Charlotte and Louis will probably become Princess Royal and Duke of York once the current holders of the titles die. But given the Windsor longevity that won't be for at least 30 years!

Princess Anne wasn't made Princess Royal until she was nearly 40 - and she'd earned it! I don't think it's automatically granted. Additional titles are normally granted on marriage (York/Wessex/Cambridge/Sussex), so I wonder what will happen if Andrew's around when Louis gets married - which is quite possible. Presumably he'll have to wait for the York title. Grin

Whitesea · 26/06/2018 15:13

They will probably add another few titles. :)

Are Andrew's daughters York too?

MurielsBottom · 26/06/2018 15:16

It does make you wonder if there will be more royals than titles available in a few years. They seem to live very long and fairly healthy lives!

MurielsBottom · 26/06/2018 15:18

And Prince Harry couldn't have the Duke of York title when Charles ascends the throne as no doubt the Current incumbent will still be alive. Also what would that mean for Eugenie and Beatrice?

Whitesea · 26/06/2018 15:22

They seem to live very long and fairly healthy lives!

Pampered lives and access to the best medical care money can buy sees to that!

EmilyAlice · 26/06/2018 15:23

The second son of Queen Victoria was Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh.

MurielsBottom · 26/06/2018 15:34

Whitesea definitely!

SenecaFalls · 26/06/2018 15:38

Prince Frederick, grandson of George I, was the first Duke of Edinburgh. Prince George, who later became George III, was the second holder of the title.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/06/2018 15:49

what would that mean for Eugenie and Beatrice?

Nothing I'm afraid, as women can't inherit titles.

MurielsBottom · 26/06/2018 15:53

Ah, not any titles? My dm used to know all this stuff and I miss being able to ask her. She was a big royal family fan!

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/06/2018 16:13

No, the only title they can inherit is that of Queen although there have been some exceptions, like Countess Mountbatten.

It's the premise Julian Fellowes used for Downton - his wife is the last of the Kitcheners but can't inherit so the title will become extinct.

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 26/06/2018 16:50

Some Scottish titles can be inherited by women. For example, the mother of the present Earl of Erroll was Countess of Erroll in her own right

SenecaFalls · 26/06/2018 16:56

The earldom of Sutherland in the peerage of Scotland is currently held by a woman who is Countess of Sutherland in her own right.

SenecaFalls · 26/06/2018 17:08

Some lesser English titles can be inherited by women, but the more senior ones are mainly in the peerage of Scotland.
