Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

CurlyWurly yes she does, you're right.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/06/2018 08:41

I think there must have been huge pressure on him to divorce, and maybe at the time that's what they both wanted. But they've never really moved on, clearly still love each other.
I think they should get married now Louis is here

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/06/2018 09:13

I agree. There were some photos of them at Ascot (Fergie was in the royal enclosure for the first time in years, I think) and they just looked so happy and comfortable with each other. Don't they still live together? I think it's quite telling that neither has had a significant relationship since their divorce. Then again maybe they have and we just don't know about it!

They had to divorce when the scandal broke and those intimate pictures emerged of her with Johnny Bryan. They were all at Balmoral at the time. It must have been difficult to keep a marriage together after that.

EmGee · 25/06/2018 09:43

I feel a bit sorry for Kate sometimes. It must be a tricky position to be in. I agree with PP re dressing for posterity. She probably just doesn't have the freedom to wear what she likes, and looks to Camilla/The Queen for guidance on protocol. I also thought the comments upthread re her lack of interest in fashion interesting - hadn't thought of that before.

I also think she is probably haunted by the "doors to manual" comments made by William's aristo friends when they were dating. I know she comes from a privileged background but it must be quite daunting sometimes when you are faced with all the blue bloods who feel you've usurped them! (Wasn't Andrew narked that his daughters - true blue bloods - are lower down the pecking order than Kate and her kids?)

Anyway I digress from the style/beauty focus of the thread! I wish MM would wear something more suited to her tiny frame - she has such slender ankles!

Whitesea · 25/06/2018 09:53

What foes door to manual even mean?

Is Andrew not gay? Why did I always think he was? He and SF look like they have a platonic relationship but not romantic.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/06/2018 09:55

Since we've segued into general royal chit chat while we wait for the next outfits, I must tell you about a book I'm reading called Ma'am Darling. It's a biography of Princess Margaret, but is written in a fairly gossipy style and is most entertaining. Margaret's morning routine is a life goal of mine!

"Doors to manual" was apparently a dig at Carole Middleton once being a flight attendant. But I was never sure if that story was true or made up by the Daily Mail.

Off topic, but I thought it was interesting that Fergie was invited to Royal Ascot - wondered if it had any connection with Philip not attending. I know he's very old now, but I think he might be ill - certainly looked it at the wedding and seemed to be ott with the smiles/grins. Maybe it was down to all the drugs for his broken ribs!

SleepingStandingUp · 25/06/2018 10:42

There's rumours Andrew is gay but wonder if that's just lack off women after Fergie? He could be bi. I think they are just each other's great loves

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/06/2018 10:43

Prince Phillip did attend the last day of Ascot with the Queen.
I suspect given that Eugenie is getting married in October, it is a bit of soft PR, that Fergie is seen around the royals and perhaps getting Phillip used to the idea that they will have to be in the same room in October

SleepingStandingUp · 25/06/2018 10:44

I thought Fergie went the day before Phillip?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/06/2018 10:45

Andrew has had absolutely tonnes of gf's after Fergie and she went out with an Italian count for a while.
I'm not sure why they would need to get married, even if they are living together. I do have respect for the pair of them being coparents to their children. I have never seen exes get on so well.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/06/2018 10:47

I meant that Fergie is being seen in the royal fold, rather than with Phillip per se.
Beatrice, especially does seem to be a watered down version of Princess Margaret. She does seem to enjoy being a princess and funded by her father. I think Eugenie seems more normal and down to earth.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/06/2018 10:48

But nothing really big, certainly nothing especially special. I was fairly young when they split but certainly cent remember much about their love lives in recent years. Maybe I just don't get Andrew on my new feed 😀

ajandjjmum · 25/06/2018 10:49

I didn't know Philip went at all. We were there on Friday, and the Queen was the only Royal in the procession - although the Yorks were obviously there too. Hadn't seen Saturday, so didn't know he was there then.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/06/2018 10:57

Sorry, phillip was at the polo

Back to fashion. The Queen must have 500 versions of exactly the same hat in different colours and trims. Apparently the Queen Mother was the same

Whitesea · 25/06/2018 11:36

For sure, Fergie is being brought back into the foldso it won’t be the talking point of their daughter’s wedding.

It is all so crazy isn’t it. We are sitting in our ordinary homes cleaning and tidying discussing privileged royaltyy.

I enjoy gossiping about them rbf. .

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/06/2018 13:21

I always felt very sorry for Fergie with the way she was treated after her divorce. However her own daughter's wedding is one occasion where the royal family simply cannot exclude her and part of me really hopes she rubs it in their faces! I doubt she'll be a mother-of-the-bride-zilla though - she appears to have too good a relationship with her daughters to do that.

OP posts:
eloisesparkle · 25/06/2018 14:35

I think Fergie and Andrew are platonically friends rather than romantically involved but would love to be proved wrong.
He was quite a looker in his day but went downhill rapidly Smile
I know my inlaws wouldn't talk to me again if my financial advisor was sucking my toes while I was still married to their dear son Shock
It must have been C ringingly embarrassing in Balmoral for Fergie when the newspapers splashed the pictures across the front pages.
If Charles and Camilla survived Tampaxgate......anything is possible.
Will the younger royals do as their parents did re affairs ????

OlennasWimple · 25/06/2018 14:46

Charlene Wittstock (Monaco) always looks amazing - not many people can carry off a pixie crop, not many royals would dare to try

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands always looks well dressed. Sometimes a little staid, but always wearing clothes that flatter her and are suitable for the occasion

I like Sophie Wessex's outfits - they always seem to suit her

SleepingStandingUp · 25/06/2018 15:03

I think with a love match they stand at just a great a risk as the rest of us. I think with planned marriages where the groom is clearly in love with someone else (from what I can tell from the historical records of the time) then the risk is greater. Charles loved someone but married who he was told to. He simply wasn't selfless enough to deny his own happiness. William well or won't cheat, same for Mate, based on who they are as people and how their marriage is rather than because they're titled

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/06/2018 15:13

I highly doubt William would risk his marriage for a bit of skirt.
They look like a really besotted couple

Also Harry adores Meghan.

They don’t have the normal pressures of a married couple.
Interesting book coming out soon by Lady Colin Campbell about the Queen’s marriage

Clionba · 25/06/2018 15:29

Has anybody seen pictures of Princess Angela of Lichtenstein ? Meghan isn't the first non white person to marry into European royalty. Have a look at Angela's wedding dress. Meghan was obviously inspired!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/06/2018 16:02

I don't think Angela was the first either - Alexandra of Denmark who was married to Prince Joachim was part Chinese. They have since divorced and he's remarried to a woman who's a dead ringer for his sister-in-law Princess Mary!
