Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

queen that's such a sad video. Poor family

I don’t like Sophie’s jumpsuit I think it is quite frumpy. Kate’s outfits are beautiful especially the Alexander McQueen.

user1457017537 · 23/06/2018 17:12

Can I just say I love Princess Haya. Her style is beautiful. I also think Princess Caroline of Monaco is always elegant and stylish.

Clionba · 23/06/2018 17:18

Queen Letizia at the Whitehouse in a pink Michael Kors dress - very chic and elegant. The previous day in a polka dot number. Both stylish yet understated and not fussy.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/06/2018 17:20

Yes Haya is very stylish. Her sister in law Rania is incredibly chic too and manages to dress within the boundaries of a conservative dress code and never look staid or frumpy.

The video of Maxima was so moving

mmmgoats · 23/06/2018 17:35

Hello! Can I join? :)

I'm another one of the fortunate women who can manage to talk about style and beauty AND have other interests, no really! [ much sarcasm ] Grin

I loved the colour of Sophie's jumpsuit and the overall concept but didn't think it was that flattering around the bust, the way the fabric gathered made her look a little dumpy to me, which she most definitely is not. Variations of blue and grey are definitely her colour though.

I have a total crush on Kitty Spencer and the Duchess of Cambridge - I'm eager to see what Meghan is going to bring in the style stakes once she's settled and found her niche, I think it must be difficult to find the right balance initially when you're new to your position.

wizzywig · 23/06/2018 17:43

Googling princess Haya. Queen rania is stunning.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/06/2018 18:48

Rania looks so youthful too, I find it hard to believe that she's got kids in their 20s!

I like Maxima, as well as Mary of Denmark. And Swedish royals - especially Victoria and Madeleine. For example recent christening of Madeleine's 3rd child and she had lovely floral dress:

or this for Victoria's 40th birthday - so refreshing styles!

Coffeeist Wow! Who is the woman in the green dress. I think Swedish royals win hands down!

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/06/2018 20:49

Green dress lady is Princess Madeleine's MiL, I think.

I'm a fan of Sophie Wessex; she looks great almost every time we see her.

I also love Meghan's pre-wedding style, think the trousers, simple sweater & fabulous tartan coat she wore up to Edinburgh with Harry, and the lovely sleeveless, belted dress she wore when the 4 of them were on stage talking, I think, about mental health issues. I'm just waiting to see if she turns..well, frumpy, like Kate. I know they have protocol and rules but I think you can still be very stylish.

Queen Letizia always looks chic, too.

I think I will enjoy reading the posts in this thread!

Bramble71 · 23/06/2018 21:02

QueenoftheAndals I think you're spot on that Kate has been told to lower her hemlines; there's definitely been a change in her look. She seems older than 36/37.

I think any of the Duchesses/Countesses accompanying the Queen tend to go for paper pastel or more neutral shades so they dont glad with the Queen. HMTQ is quite a colourful dresser!

Camilla dresses nicely, too. I like to see her in navy; I think it suits her well.

WipsGlitter · 23/06/2018 22:35

Pre wedding Meghan was definitely more casual. I think she's struggling with formal dressing.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/06/2018 01:12

Pp who said Meghan struggles with fit was spot on.
She definitely needs to wear tailored or get a seamstress to adjust her off the peg clothes. She’s got to be a size 6.

I do think fashion wise, she didn’t realise how formal being a duchess was going to be. Her style has evolved light years from her first appearance at the Invictus games in ripped jeans and a men’s white shirt. That was only 9 months ago!

I also think Harry has upped his style game too. He looks really polished, whether it’s morning dress, or his improved casual wear.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/06/2018 01:30

Just wanted to go retro and post some of Diana’s best looks, given that 80s fashion seems to be coming round again...
My favourite was the Elvis! (Especially with a tiara)

More Diana. Given that she died over 20 years ago, a lot of her looks could easily be worn today and not look dated. I think her style got even better once she was divorced.

A few more
She definitely went through her Dynasty phase ( showing age her..!)
Also loved her shalwar kameez when she was dating Dr Hasnat Khan

Someone has analysed the cost of meghan’s Outfits since her engagement here.
I think it was interesting to see her ascot dress was bespoke so cost £8,000. Also her hat was about £2.5k. I had no idea those Phillip Treacy hats were so expensive.

evilharpy · 24/06/2018 07:55

Evolution of Meghan’s style

www.townandcountrymag.com/style/fashion-trends/g3272/meghan-markle-preppy-style/

I have to admit I didn’t like the Ascot outfit or thr blue and white dress she wore to a wedding recently but generally I love her style. She looks amazing dressed down, like in the white shirt and jeans she wore to last year’s Invictus games.

Clionba · 24/06/2018 08:13

Meghan is a good casual dresser, and those early trousers /big coats looks were great. The transition hasn't been easy, maybe struggling to find an appropriate look. She could do worse than have a look at Letizia who is probably her size, or Madeleine. I hadn't seen Haya or Rana before this, but some great outfits.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/06/2018 08:18

@CurlyWurlyTwirly That electric blue one-shouldered dress is, for me, Diana's best-ever evening gown. I'm Australian and can remember when she visited and wore it to a charity ball in memory of a prominent surgeon who'd been murdered.

The black "fuck you" (for want of a better expression!) dress she wore on the evening Charles gave his interview to one of the Dimblebys was also stunning. I think it was by Catherine Walker, who Kate has also worn a fair bit. It wasn't until recently that I found out that she too died several years ago.

@evilharpy I like a lot of what she wears too - the McQueen trouser suit and McCartney caped dress were standouts. I think she's probably still trying to find a balance between her natural style and what's expected of her as a member of the royal family, but let's hope she can achieve this without going down the boring route.

I think MM has a fabulous wardrobe and I especially like the winter coats. She does tailored very well.
