Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

In that photo he bares a strong resemblance to her dad!

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2018 08:02

He does look like Andrew there. Eugenie needs to invest in a decent bra - time for a visit to Rigby & Peller!

I love her sandals. Nice dress. Shame to pair it with a heavy black shoulder bag, though.

shirt dress by Erdem

Quantumblue · 30/06/2018 09:27

That's quite a challenging length somehow.

Clionba · 30/06/2018 09:45

I like that she's wearing espadrilles.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/06/2018 09:59

Do think it would look better a bit shorter or a bit longer

WipsGlitter · 30/06/2018 10:26

They must always be boiling hot!!

Lover that look but it looks a bit 'heavy'.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/06/2018 12:05

It’s a very “Sophie” length

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2018 13:21

It's an unusual length - not midi but not quite maxi either.

I'm sorry to say, it reminds me of my nan's 'house coat'. A thin cotton coat which she would always pop over her clothes while doing messy cleaning.

Tbh though, it's hot and she's there to look at horses. She's marching around on grass ect. It's probably very comfy and cool and wafty and she's perfectly happy :)

eloisesparkle · 30/06/2018 14:13

Oh to have a waist like that Blush
I hate those espadrilles with strings going up.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2018 15:13

I assumed Sophie was mid to late 40s but see now that she's 53!

That dress is in the sale. £1,110 Now down to £777.

Good gracious me.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/06/2018 16:06

Yeah she had the kids late compared to Di and Fergie. The trouser suit, she looked great but I did think she was starting to look her age

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2018 19:58

While browsing various royal style stuff on Youtube, I came across .

Her cut-glass accent sounds just as British as QEII but she leaves her Windsor counterpart in the shade when it comes to accomplishments. She studied at Cambridge, LSE and the Sorbonne, speaks 6 languages, is a talented artist (she illustrated the Danish translations of the Lord of the Rings books and holds regular exhibitions), and has designed costumes for the Danish national ballet!

Speaking of Margrethe, I have always really liked her wedding dress; it was very much of its time, but also has a timeless quality. The daisy brooch was her mother's (Queen Ingrid) and made from diamonds that had belonged to Ingrid's mother who was a British princess (Margaret of Connaught). Margrethe's nickname is Daisy.

OlennasWimple · 30/06/2018 21:12

Yes, that wedding dress is lovely (and has aged a lot better than Di or Fergie's have)

SleepingStandingUp · 30/06/2018 21:23

They were born a generation apart though, being 18 ie Uni age in the late 50's rather than the mid 40's would have had an impact if they had been any women and I rather suspect that if the queen had been "indulging" her hobbies there would have been complaints that she wasn't increasing enough time into the job the "tax payer pays for"

SleepingStandingUp · 30/06/2018 21:26

I think we can all agree the 60's were greenest more stylish than the 80's lol

I'm rather taken with her daughter in laws dress too

The Queen does indulge in a very expensive hobby, thoroughbred racing.

But I do think the 10 years made at least some difference in how the women were educated. Princess Margaret has been quoted as saying that she (Margaret) regretted not having a broader education. Except for some lessons in constitutional history, Elizabeth was given the limited education common for girls in most aristocratic families of the time (or more to the point, her mother's time), which is a bit surprising given her destiny. Had she been a male heir, it would have been expected for her to go to university.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 30/06/2018 21:39

I think Sophie looks lovely here, but then I am about her age, colouring and size Grin

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is wearing the same veil that Margrethe wore, another legacy from Princess Margaret of Connaught.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2018 21:44

I'm not sure it changed that much in the U.K for aristocratic women tbh - Princess Anne never went to university either and even Diana, who was born in the 60s, had a very limited education.
