Happy Birthday Fennel. I think you need to go and do a bad thing since DH forgot your birthday. Buying perfume will be much better for you than eating chocolate or drinking gin after all.

SotD Silhouette. Pleasant spiciness. It's from my Bloom Petrichor set so I have just had a delightful 20 mins or so googling petrichor. I love that it's first use was in Nature in the 1960s and now it's a style of perfume.

3DSpex · 10/07/2018 18:12

Many happy returns, Fennel!

Definitely grounds to do a Very Bad Thing!

Broke up from work today for the summer holidays (yesss!) and off out for dinner with the school mums. SOTE Ealing Green. They’ll hate it, but I feel it pairs well with the heat and a bucket of ice cold Sauv 😆

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/07/2018 18:37

SOTD Caldey Island Lavender.

Happy birthday, Fennel.

MrsLucas · 10/07/2018 18:51

Happy Birthday Fennel - make it big and bad. Smile.

Am still trying green things to cope with the heat - today had a 4160 grassy green mod, which I topped up with a bit of MG Lemon. Was good all day - and yes Calm, in a non-sweet, refreshing and slightly mouth puckering sort of way.

Now in Sliences, with Givenchy III and Grey Flannel lined-up for later/tomorrow.

MrsLucas · 10/07/2018 18:53

Get well soon Kittens Flowers

Calmanddance · 10/07/2018 19:13

Have a lovely birthday Fennel 💐

SOTD was 4160 White Queen. This was not an immediate love for me when I first tried it a few weeks ago, but I kept going back to it. It is intriguing because it is quite different to anything else and it morphs. It is very long-lasting - I can still smell it now and I put it on this morning. For the last hour or two I have been smelling rich damp earth!

UnnecessaryFennel · 10/07/2018 20:13

Thank you lovely people Smile

Dp is forgiven, but I may still treat myself to a Bad Thing anyway. Why the hell not?

I agree about WQ, calm, it is slightly odd but rather lovely and the longevity is fab. I might try it side-by-side with LoF Dirt just to see!

OCSock · 10/07/2018 20:32

Raising a glass to wish Fennel many happy returns, and to hope that MrF has redeemed himself with a scented gift.

SoTD was Escale a Paraty (Dior cologne). Love it, especially the tonka, but it doesn't last. Only a whiff of fragrance remains.

MrsLucas · 10/07/2018 20:59

SotE is Bat to celebrate the cave rescue. If I was rich I'd have a full bottle of this. Bizarre, stimulating and strangely likeable.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 10/07/2018 22:45

late with my birthday wishes but happy birthday fennel Thanks

sote is the PP Iris Patchouli, can't for the life of me remember what this a dupe of though! it is lovely though, Dp commented that it was 'spicy' and i can see what he means, i think it's maybe an autumn/winter scent really

3DSpex · 10/07/2018 23:29

Getting in to bed and my SOTE is M.Micallef Ananda Dolce. Weirdo gourmand peach-lover cult fragrance. Fragranticans love it.

It smells exactly like new Sindy and Strawberry Shortcake dolls of the 1980s to me. Lovely but bloody kooky.

MrsLucas · 11/07/2018 08:35

Givenchy III today - perfect.

UnnecessaryFennel · 11/07/2018 09:44

No SOTD yet. Am hoping that the postie delivers my Bloom order today but I may be being optimistic.

OCSock · 11/07/2018 13:40

Terre d'Iris today, but although it's lovely I can't smell much thanks to the pollen, which has also given me itchy eyes. And, at 20C, I am cold.

BlueKittens · 11/07/2018 14:19

SOTD is Aubade courtesy of MrsLucas from a while back. Lovely almond and heliotrope (I think?? from memory) smells musky and clean, a bit sweet, just really lovely

OCSock · 11/07/2018 14:30

Who would confess to wearing a perfume/aftershave called Barfly?

DS has just received a free sample, with a hoodie (for his birthday, so tried on for size and now put away, to a wail). It's a bit much to start off, with citrus and herb, then jasmine and lavender, over sandalwood and cedar and apparently closing on musk and vanilla. Do these people know no restraint?

Calmanddance · 11/07/2018 15:15

Oh yes, Blue, Aubade is beautiful. MrsLucas also sent me a sample, a while back. She is definitely an enabler. I went straight out and bought a big bottle! Blush

I am wearing PP Rive Gauche today. I bought it last year, on the recommendation of someone here. It is lovely. I have no idea if it smells like the real one - I need to test in one of the department stores.

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/07/2018 16:22

SOTD is FM Lipstick Rose.

I have an unfragranced AIBU - too scared to post in actual AIBU.

We live close to a huge public park (boating lake, tearoom, two big kids’ playgrounds, botanic gardens, a really large place, not a wee swing park) and in the holidays I often go there to get my 10,000 steps, sometimes read my book in the cafe and so on. Yesterday I ran into a male colleague who recently adopted a wee girl with his husband. He was really shocked to see me there, and said it was a weird place to go without children. I just laughed it off, but I remember that there are often threads here about childless people hanging about in parks and are they a danger to DC. Is it okay for me to go to this park on my own? i wondered if the colleague just found it odd because he’s a new parent and had previously lived a totally different lifestyle. The park is popular with dog walkers and joggers/cyclists, not just families. (It’s also a notorious cottaging spot after dark! I don’t hang about the play park bits, and am obviously not a predator. It’s made me feel quite shit though.

AIBU? Please reassure me I am not being weird.

PlausibleSuit · 11/07/2018 16:42

Sock Barfly sounds... esoteric. Kitchen-sinky. Seems popular on Fragrantica. Is it one of those #beastmode ones they like to go on about on the men's forum? I don't like that place

SOTD is Parfumerie Generale PG24 Papyrus de Ciane. Which is lovely.

Judy YANBU IMO. Parks are for everyone, surely? It seems an odd thing for your colleague to say. I wonder if he's viewing everything through the new lens of having a kid at the moment. But parks are not there solely for people with children. Are they? Confused You've got me worrying now. I go to the big park near us all the time (the identical description could apply, even down to the cottaging bit!) because I like to use those metal frame thingies to work out on. The last thing I want is anyone thinking I am Up To No Good.

Dlpdep · 11/07/2018 19:34

I’m on hols at the moment and picked up a cheapy Elizabeth Arden White Tea (because I had pretty much everything else in the shop - yikes!). I really really like it. Maybe it’s a holiday scent only and works well in the sun. Off to check out other iris type perfumes!

MrsLucas · 11/07/2018 19:37

Is it Barfly by Scotch & Soda OC? Loads of interesting notes. Oriental fougere is an interesting category (makes me wonder if it is warm and cool all at once?).

Judy - parks are for everyone. I approve of those teenage hangout areas they are building in ours.

You know how you win-some and lose-some on ebay? I'm having a win-some day! I misread the ad on my In Love Again miniature and received 10mls not 4 mls. And it's in a heart bottle. Result! You're right Calm - it's very enjoyable, especially the grapefruit/currant/tomato leaf opening - very piercing, like cat pee, but in a good way. Can see the family resemblance to Bazaar in the heart notes.

Interesting to see how different this is to L'A's much softer, more blackberry-led fruity musk, Mure et Musc.

I like Fragrantica for the notes info but the reviews do seem often to be too erratic to rely on, even for the balance of opinion. Basenotes feels a better bet?

OCSock · 11/07/2018 19:54

Yep, it's the Scotch & Soda Barfly. And six hours on, it has dried down to a sweetish vanilla (and musk, I assume, but I'm anosmic to it) and is pleasant, good-tempered and mannerly, which is to say that I would not buy it, but would have a squirt in the right mood.

PG24 is lovely Plausible, I had a Senteurs sample many moons ago. Fresh, sappy, and refreshing IIRC.

OCSock · 11/07/2018 19:56

Upfront, it's a bit busy, but I think that came across earlier. An inspired choice for a youngish DS without strong scent preferences IMO.

Calmanddance · 11/07/2018 20:27

Judy, don’t take any notice of your colleague. Parks belong to the community, for everyone to use and enjoy. I wish I had one near enough home to help with my 10K steps! I do have a beautiful ex-railway line walking/cycling path to use. It’s very peaceful, but the quietness means I have to be aware of personal safety.

MrsLucas, yes In Love Again is very different to Mure et Musc. I love them both. I also have one of the In Love Again flankers “Fleur de la Passion”. This also has a sharp, fruity opening, citrussy this time. It’s very good, but I prefer the original.

Basenotes is better in many ways than Fragrantica, but it doesn’t have the number of reviews. I do also like the longevity/sillage scores on Fragrantica. It’s good to have both!

3DSpex · 11/07/2018 22:26

SOTE is LoF Baby Powder. I needed some cosy, old school nostalgia tonight.

Night all x
