losing my looks. I know what you mean by that. I was 60 a few weeks ago and losing my hair (for the third time!) last year was a terrible blow. Oddly, shaving the strands off has made me feel better about it - it looks intentional now, rather than just like something I was neglecting. And if the constant casual ageism you see on MN is a mirror of the world, it’s no wonder we feel crap.

SoyYo · 11/05/2018 13:34

Thanks never and cherries for not making me feel shallow and vane...indeed we live in a terribly ageist world and I try and remember how lucky I am to actually be ageing healthily, but it's still a confidence blow.
I'm learning to accept this new "me", and lucky that I can afford nice things to wear so let's enjoy fashion and be frivolous with it!
cherries the hair loss and how you've handled it is truly inspiring.
never most people don't guess my true age either and I'm not one to go down the filler/Botox/cosmetic procedure route. I just need to learn to embrace my ageing looks...and all the £ (potentially) saved on facial treatments make our odd Hush indulgence frugal Grin

SoyYo · 11/05/2018 13:53

never forgot to say yes that's me on the beach photo, thank you to you and everyone's whose commented kindly Flowers

And so to brighten our Friday I will now list the things I love about me:
Big brown Eyes with long eyelashes, I don't mind the laugh wrinkles round them as they show how much I've laughed and lived. I'm now 1 1/2 stone heavier than in my 20's/30's but I was only a size 6/8 when young so a size 12 is okay for me at this age, I'd rather be a 10 but the post menaupausal diet effort involved is not worth it for me, I remain vigilant not to pile on the weight though Wink, I'm a good and loyal friend, I'm lucky to have a great man I share the journey with for the last 30 years and two big strapping DS's who have grown up to be really good people...and yes a great Hush capsule wardrobe, and I'm healthy! I think I'm still good "work in progress"

I need the power of the hive mind. Sitting in JL coffee shop trying to decide what to keep. Have nearly 4 weeks abroad this summer - mum and dad have invited me for a week as they aren’t so keen to go themselves any more, a week with my dd who has had two surgeries since Xmas so I’m taking her for some R&R at an all inclusive in Gran Canaria, plus summer holiday with DH. And nothing fits, of course. So these long hush dresses are a 12 - ok or deranged person in her PJs? Kerala blouse (to wear with linen palazzo trousers?? Venice dress from this morning. Plus maybe one other Venice dress - blue or hibiscus??

And obviously I won’t wear black knickers under the light one!

Laska5772 · 11/05/2018 14:11

I ordered the orange one this morning! Like it on you. Black is nice but have you triedthe blue woodblock one? I think you should go for brighter colours! Def Hibiscus!! (Or blue). Ive not notived the kerela blouse before
.but looks good on you.. (wanders off to lookit up) ..

Re losing looks.. I am up and down on this .cant say i was ever pretty but i think I was ok looking .. not the most popular but looking back not too grim.. in my late 40s early 50s i was pretty down about agingbut now at 60 and well post meno I feel pretty ok about how i look.. being able to afford nice clothes helps of course.. I also am lucky to have adoring DH (MN would probibly say that hes just about the right age to leave me for a 25 year old !)

Mn is also really bad on us oldies esp of we are grans and MILs..
My Mil is arriving for weekend in about sn hour.. I can truly say i really love her.. im a gran.. I hope im a nice one..

ilovecherries · 11/05/2018 14:15

I also ordered the camp joggers, but they went straight back - didn’t like them on me at all.

SoyYo · 11/05/2018 14:16

cherries love the black Alana (you've enabled me now) but I think you need to go down a size with the panel maxi? It looks very roomy...
I'm personally not keen on the Kerala (I returned the orange version) not because its unflattering but rather the wrinkliness potential didn't impress me.
Try more dresses! You're there after all but definitely keep the Alana!
Fab summer plans BTW Envy

Laska5772 · 11/05/2018 14:18

Sorry I an rubbish at typing on phone ..

neveradullmoment99 · 11/05/2018 14:19

That's the thing though, I never think of myself as a MIL but I actually am. [ I have older children as well as my little ones] I am also a gran but my ds lives in another country so I rarely get so see my new grandchild.

Laska5772 · 11/05/2018 14:22

Ha soy i actually sized up on the panel maxis.. didnt like the arm holes being too close to armpit on the smaller ones and wanted bigger!

ilovecherries · 11/05/2018 14:22

Do you think? My daughter keeps telling me to size down but don’t think I can possibly be a 10. I actually ordered it in a 14 and the personal stylist happened to be in the changing room and it was her that made me try a 12...

ilovecherries · 11/05/2018 14:23

Ok, heading back to the shop floor ;)

Laska5772 · 11/05/2018 14:24

Also extra roomy is v good on blistering Greek hols . IMO.. I have 4 of thpse dresses now 2 bought when I was a stone lighter than I am now and all a M or sz14

SoyYo · 11/05/2018 14:25

laska totally relate regarding adoring DH ❤️ I have one of those and he's definitely a keeper! 😉 Really really lucked out and he's the worst ever enabler to the point that if we go shopping together I end up buying even more than I would in my own he's also a great PO box returner saving me blushes in our village store
Funny how we're all different I love black in summer, and think the Alana looks chic in that colour inner rock chick again
Maybe I was too hasty on panel maxi size? It may just be roomy but in cherries shoes I'd try the 10 just to compare, love the happy print!

Enjoy your MIL visit! You're lucky to still have her (mine passed away 2 years ago and she was lovely too)

neveradullmoment99 · 11/05/2018 14:31

Try the 10 cherries. I had an 8 in that style of dess a few years back.

neveradullmoment99 · 11/05/2018 14:32

I have no holiday plans as yet so not buying dummer wear atm.

neveradullmoment99 · 11/05/2018 14:32

Summer fgs!

neveradullmoment99 · 11/05/2018 14:33

I am a 12 and sometimes a 10. I would order an 8 or a 10.

neveradullmoment99 · 11/05/2018 14:34

I also have a dh like that soyo and laska. Been married for over 30yrs.

Laska5772 · 11/05/2018 14:39

Yes I am lucky soy still have DM also but she 93 and mil 92.. both getting frail now sadly ..
Hmm... do im sizing up and everyone else down..I wonder if i look a bit too much in full sail in mine then ! ?

Laska5772 · 11/05/2018 14:42

We must be bucking the MN trend ! ( but then its only the rotten ones people post about
How about ...AIBU ? My Dh is bit too nice really , what shall i do? !! (Oh buthes boundto leave for a 25 yr old soon surely!!)

Laska5772 · 11/05/2018 14:44

Soy Im a bit too pale for black to look ok on me in the summer ( and not in a good goth way.. )

neveradullmoment99 · 11/05/2018 14:47

I often think of those threads laska. All the negatvity but my dh is very much into 'family' and extremely loyal and finds the past important. I know you can never say 100% but i cant see him throwing things away. We have history.
About the dress, i think you should try it again and consider sizing down too.

neveradullmoment99 · 11/05/2018 14:48

I also think you should post that thread. They will be all over it, putting your relationship down!
